Just read this, seems like every few days now he's expressing his desire to leave... but the thing is that no clubs have really made any noise, not much he can do if no clubs come in for him.

Absolutely. He's been unsettled by these reports linking him with a move for Real but as yet no offer has been received, let alone deal struck. This must be what it's like to be an Arsenal fan.

He's an attacking mid  We could use one of them too.

Deals are done for Mignolet and Carroll, just waiting for someone to sign the dotted line apparently.

Seems as though most on here don't like the idea of Mignolet, but I think it's a good signing. He is a proven EPL keeper and has improved significantly in the previous two seasons - and on the other hand, Reina has declined significantly in the previous two seasons.

True. Maybe just a misperception on my part. I just got the impression that everyone is submissive of it - that they don't really see much value in the deal.

I guess I just expected more of fuss to be made over signing a new keeper.

For the record:

I have always thought he is a top keeper, not in terms of a move to United, City or Chelsea but deserves a step up.

Mignolet is a great signing imo. Not as if he's some downgrade on Reina anyway, and as Vaughn mentioned, you're getting a keeper who is proven in England.

Granted he had a shoddy defence in front of him last season and kept 10 clean sheets last season from 38 games....that means that he conceded Sunderland's 54 goals in 28 games. That's nearly two goals a game. That's why I'm apprehensive.

That's a horrible use of stats. It's way too harsh to pin down all goals conceded to the GK.

Read some stats comparing Reina and Mignolet, and the only thing Reina has over Mignolet is distribution. I'd say that's a decent signing.

And more stats!!!

Shots on Target Inside Box Saved : Over the past two season, Pepe has saved just 79 out of 143 shots. That is 55.42% saved, which is well below the PL average of 61%.

Mignolet has saved 57 of 81 faced at 70.4% in 11/12. That was best in the league. Pepe was 19th.

Shots from outside the box: Pepe was above average, saving 65 from 72 shots at 91.1%. PL average is 87%.

Defensive Errors: Very ugly for Pepe. He has made 11 errors over past two seasons. That is one error every 531 minutes, which is well below the league average of 942 minutes. Mignolet made an error every 1199 minutes.

Claiming crosses: Reina's missed attempts at claiming a cross was 32%, Mignolets was 6.4%

Total Save%: Reina has a save% of only 68% compared to Mignolet's 73%, despite facing only a little over half the total number of shots.

Reina conceded 34 goals from 107 shots, Mignolet conceded 54 from 203 shots on target.

Clean Sheets: Pepe has 14 this season to Mignolet's 11. Please remember the total shots faced. For the record, Liverpool have conceded the fewest shots in the box in the PL, Sunderland conceded the second most, which was also the second most of the 98 teams in Europe’s big five leagues.

Distribution: This is area where Pepe is clearly better. He has a short pass accuracy of 96.6%, compared to Mignolet's 73%.

Coming to long balls or long passes. Last season, Pepe had a long ball accuracy of 45.8%, compared to 36.9% from Mignolet.

Mignolet's short passing accuracy is so odd. 73% is exceptionally low. Most keepers have numbers in the 90s, even ones like Howard and Friedel.

Beautiful. Should be a good signing.

Speaking of beautiful...

Love it. Nice to see Borini getting some goals in the U21 finals too. Won the semi and got one in the final too, both nice goals as well. Glad for him.

And happy birthday to Jordan!

Henrikh Mkhitaryan had a great scoring record for an attacking mid last season, will be interesting how Rodgers tries to use him and Coutinho. Also will be very interesting listening to Carragher try and do any analysis on him

Saw somewhere from the loan (2mil) and this + possible add ons of 2mil we could get 19mil back from Carroll so if you just take it as we sold Torres for 34mil it is still a pretty good deal

Atsu replacing Assaidi I think. Vaughn, thoughts on him?

Aside from drawing United in the first 6 weeks...(big fucking surprise there ) our start to the season looks pretty good.

Then you get to playing City and Chelsea in the space of 2 days in December ](*,)

Re: the players we're being linked to; I just want the Ilori deal to be done. The sooner we take care of the CB issue the better we'll be. I'm not sure about Atsu and what he'll bring to the team but some added depth and flexibility is always a plus, could be our answer to Ashley Young. I'm even less sold on Luis Alberto.

I watch Mkhitaryan goals from last season and I don't know, everyone has him down as an attacking mid but his goals were mostly him receiving through balls over the top and finishing them. Was Shakhtars main goalscorer and didn't seem that creative. I don't know, he may work amazingly with Coutinho supplying him but not what I was expecting and 23 million Euro's is a lot and I don't know if he is the sort of player we need most at the moment

If we're looking for someone to come in as a second striker or Trequartista he's a good option but I don't think he brings anything much to the team in midfield. I'm not sure that Rodgers is entirely enamoured with Suso's contribution last season and he's probably looking to add some depth in between the lines.
