Hot Spot is also far from perfect as well, it apparently has problems with tiny edges on the outside of an opened faced flashing bat. They are tools that need to be understood and used for what they can do. What Hawkeye can do is eliminate LBWs that are likes Cook's but are given not out or LBWs that are given when it was going to miss the stumps by a large margin. That is what it has been brought in to eliminate, anything else is just a bonus at this stage.

So hawkeye cannot say with certainty that it is out or not out so what the umpire has said goes. Where as if the ball is shown as hitting the middle stump like with Cook haweye cannot be wrong to the extent that the ball had any chance of missing the stumps. However it is a bit of a mess. Hopefully hawkeye can be improved so that it can be more certain about those close LBWs
Edited by Davis_Patik: 5/8/2013 09:29:24 PM What's the point in using the Hawkeye for reviews if it's inaccurate then? Because that looked pretty straightforward LBW to me. It's not incarnate, they've just factored in the margin for error - which is 100% logical because the technology is only predicting the line of the ball.

It eliminates big mistakes even if it cannot decide on really close LBWs definitively. This is still a big improvement, if used properly, over having only an umpire.

This is poor from Pietersen. Hyper-aggressive batting is not what england need. I really think he lacks the mentality for this situation.

That's a howler, nothing in that.
There is a little noise, but nothing on the bat. Same as the Khawaja decision.

Hot Spot does not give false positives but does give false negatives. So seeing a spot is proof, not seeing a spot is not proof.

Great session. Not only 3 wickets, but the best 3 wickets to get in that session. here's hoping the rain stays away.
Just need to get Bell. Root and Bairstow are a bit too green to hold out the onslaught.

Bell - Prior partnership might be the most troubling one for Australia although Prior has not been in great form.

Howler of a decision by the third umpire to find KP out. He's an asshole, but that doesn't change the fact there was little proof he was out.

There wasn't enough evidence to overturn the decision. There was a noise with a hard transient and the ball starts spinning faster as it gets past his bat. He edged it.
