COYS wrote:I thought he was taking up a coaching role at Basel anyway? Indeed, that's more recent news (relative terms). Though I can't be bothered to source it right now, I recall that with his latest contract renewal/extension, he was offered a coaching gig with the club, post playing career. And I recall being quite excited by the idea, as he would be a trailblazer, the first exported young Aussie with a coaching set up with a half decent club in a half decent league. We've had guys like Postecoglou and Nick Theo' have very brief stints in Greece's lower leagues, but that was the best of it I think. So maybe Chippers could start a trend there, that hopefully guys like Poppa, Moore and others follow. And maybe one of them could end up down the track being our first Aussie to coach the Socceroos since Arnold, come circa 2022, hehe.

lol. Someone on the Victory forum did a bit of digging. The rumour was from 2008, originating from the 442 rumour mill. http://www.fcbforum.ch/forum/archive/index.php/t-25772.htmlQuote:Rumour Mill
Melbourne Victory pounce on ChipperfieldMay 7 2008 18:32
Source have indicated that Scott Chipperfield may make his way to Melbourne Victory before the new season to strengthen their backline.
(Australian)FourFourTwo Belief Factor: 6/10 - This rumour's the talk of Melbourne today - and while Chippers hasn't had much game time in Switzerland, it would mean Archie would have to forego being marquee. It's possible of course - but we just have our doubts.

Yeah I remember that. He was all "Look at how everyone bags out John Aloisi, a legend of the Australian game. I don't want to be subject to that". I can't blame him to be honest. Aussie's just like to put others down.

Bit old for the Victory methinks. I thought he said he was ending his career in Europe?
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.
