The thread for all your gambling forays.
The Punter's Punthouse Weekly Super Tips *New and improved* Started on Pg 34
This thread will hereby provide punters with the opportunity to contribute, explain, attain, use given tips and knowledge, and hopefully win lots of $$$!
In the lead up to every weekend of sport (deadline 6.30p.m. Friday), people will provide tips and insight into what they feel are the bets to look out for on the upcoming action. These bets can be divided into 4 tiers: - Safe/Bankers - Sensible and Knowledgable - Value - Probable Longshots
I will then collate and reallocate all bets provided by contributers into 3 seperate sections which will be used as options for all to use. 3 levels of bet types will be: Stand-alone bets (ranging only from Safe/Bankers - Value) Multi/Combo's (Seperating all tiers of bets and placing them into 4-8 legged multi's with a variety of combinations) & Other bet types (those bets that do not fall under the given categories i.e unique bets, first goalscorers, bets inelligible in multi's, racing...)
This template is a guide only, and will be altered or permanently placed upon feedback.
Cheers Attached to OP

Should we be concerned that the gambling thread was started by someone who's not legally allowed to gamble?

Yeah No worries. In the simplest possible explanation a Lay bet means you are betting against that horse/team/greyhound/... to win. A lay bet is only ever giving you odds of 2-1. No matter how much you bet. But, if your lay bet loses, you are liable to pay your bet amount, times the odds of the horse/team/greyhound/... For example, the favourite greyhound is paying $3.5. I lay the bet for for $10. When laying, your only looking to double your money. Any lay bet whether it be the $10 or $25, you are laying to double your money. If the favourite grey loses, you get $20 in return for a $10 profit. If the favourite wins the race, you lose $10 X $3.5 Or, take for example a horse that is an outsider at $15. You decide to lay him at $25, because obviously, you feel he won't win, therefore a $25 bet is decent to get doubled up. The horse runs 3rd, you win $50. But here's the downer, if the horse ends up winning, then you are set to lose your $25 bet times the odds of the horse, ($15) = -$375:cry: . So basically, lay bets are a very handy tool for betting against things winning. Edited by sanga1: 11/11/2010 11:57:21 AMEdited by sanga1: 11/11/2010 12:01:16 PM

pimpsta wrote:so when your laying a bet your pretty much the bookie? In a way you are, but your only ever getting 2-1 win odds on a lay bet of any amount. They're good for Greyhounds, especially the blanket fields when the favourites odds are short but plenty of the other dogs have close odds to that of the favourite. In this case, your liability is rather small, considering the odds of the favourite, and because greys are volatile and unpredictable, the favourite in blanket races more often than not does not win. A friend of mine used this strategy and made $800 starting off a $100 bankroll never risking more than 6% of his bankroll on any one bet.

Put a multi worth $680 on the EPL this morning. Only missed out on Bolton not beating Everton, and Nolan not scoring for Newcastle.

Ahh unlucky, bloody Newcastle not winning at home, they can't beat Arsenal away and do that! Bloody ridiculous, and I wouldn't be backing Bolton winning at Goodison, it was always gunna be an Everton win or draw.

You can do better than that I reckon. I doubt that Chelsea, Manu and Arsenal will all win. Try for some half/full doubles, and throw an upset in there.

That bumps up your odds and I'd say Livo and Arsenal will get up.

But yee pretty close. Here's one for the Punters' archives I won't forget in a while. Not as close as a bet I made some 3 months ago, I had final scorer/Pred as 3-2 Robben to score last goal against Uruguay in the group stages. 1 minute away from $720 as it was paying 90-1 I had $8 on it. It was the single most devastating goal I've witnessed in the last 2 minutes of a game besides Roos-Italy 06! Fucking Maxi Perreira like omg really!!

I call Centrebet for sports because of their range of markets as well as the Centrebet Casino and Centrebet Poker add-ons. TAB (NZ) for racing is a no-brainer, the form database is so comprehensive.

Betfair edges out Centrebet overall though in my opinion and yeah, the form interface on Betfair isn't exactly the easiest to notice on the site. But once you get a feel for it, it's really sweet. I just put on an outside multibet on this weekends A-League action. It probably won't get up but I've seen some strange things before... Gold Coast United v Sydney FC Home/Draw/Away Backing: Draw Wellington Phoenix v Central Coast Mariners Home/Draw/Away Backing: Wellington Phoenix Melbourne Heart v Brisbane Roar Home/Draw/Away Backing: Brisbane Roar Newcastle Jets v Adelaide United Home/Draw/Away Backing: Newcastle Jets Total Odds: $51.50 Bet: $1 Return: $51.50 For 51 bucks that is a decent bet as I feel Newcastle will finally break their duck at home v Adelaide. Syd v GC is a no brainer for a draw, Brisbane to hopefully continue their outstanding form and Wellington to make amends for their last home outing... Thoughts? Decent day at Dargaville, got a few places which saw me break even.
Saw a few horses to watch in future too, such as Sunsett, progeny of Sunline.
