As a Scandinavian I can tell you that it's certainly no worse than the A-League, that's for sure. If it's Rade Prica, that would be one hell of a signing, but he's in his prime right now and playing for Rosenborg who are an institution in Scandinavian football and consistently doing well in European football as well. Can't see why he would want to trade that for a spot with Central Coast right now.

Djiby Fall is unlikely as well, unless Central Coast are willing to pay a fair buck for him. He just returned from Molde to Lokomotiv Moscow and if they are selling him, I could definitely see some of the bigger Danish clubs such as OB, or Brøndby being interested in acquiring his services.

"To add depth" were his words weren't they? - In other words no one you you'd expect to push the starting IX

Not official yet but it's the general consensus amongst the fans.

Haha nice! That rumour has died down since. There is talk that we were trying to get the Finnish striker before Sydney but his wage demands were too high. Finland and Norway are similar...

What about Steffen Iversen - he was brought up that he may come to an a-league club a few years ago. He has an excellent pedigree and I presume at some point he would have finished top scorer in eliteserien.

Also, Helstad is an excellent player. He was (in Norwegian league) impossible to stop a few years ago and was one of the main reasons Brann won the title.

We do lack some decent young strikers coming through though. Bernie Ibini-Isei playing in our youth team definitely warrents a call-up but we already have too much dead wood we need to get rid of in Hutchinson, Porter, Doig (who is an excellent player but is stuck behind Wilko and Zwaanswijk)

This.

Bernie was in the squad for the game on the weekend too. Don't know why he got dropped, I would've preferred to have seen him on the bench than Doig or Hutch tbh.

^ And Mrdja I suppose? Hehe

In a few ways, I don't even quite understand why the Mariners would be after another striker, because Simon and McBreen seem to be the regular starting combo up there, then you have Kwasnik busting a gut to snatch one of those possies, which he's done recently. So the Mariners have three top line, experienced and well established strikers in their rotation.

So considering all that, I too favour the option of bringing a young, NYL striker through, ESPECIALLY IF his NYL performances warrant so/bang on the door. And with that, we saw just how well young Amini does with the team, after his elevation ONLY AFTER his AFCU19 performances with the Young Socceroos.

And that also reminds me, that is leaving Peres on the bench now - so that is another attacking option (Albeit an Attacking Midfielder I know) who's stuck on the pine at the moment and he's a VISA player too.

Also, the Mariners have scored the third highest goals in the league, 28, and are just one goal off Adelaide United, who are second on the league's goal count. So in general, 'goals' are not a problem for the Mariners, as their latest result against, an albeit poor Sydney FC, can attest.

After Argentine Damian Zalio failed his trial, the Mariners have continued their search for a striker. The current word on the street from "a never before wrong source" is that we are about to sign a Norwegian striker who was golden boot in the Norwegian league at some stage in his career.

Possibilities:

(From Wiki)
2005: Ole Martin Årst (Tromsø I.L.) 16 goals
2006: Daniel Nannskog (Stabæk I.F.) 19 goals
2007: Thorstein Helstad (S.K. Brann) 22 goals
2008: Daniel Nannskog (Stabæk I.F.) 16 goals
2009: Rade Prica (Rosenborg BK) 17 goals
2010: Baye Djiby Fall (Molde FK) 16 goals

Who could it be? :-k
