Really tearing it up, there ! Sounds like a fantastic achievement Food for thought: Despite the number of Austalian ex-pats in Croatia there's higher participation numbers for gridiron than AFL. That's not a 'fantastic achievement'. That's hilarious.

I look forward to that being one of our "Melbourne" based games in coming seasons.

Edited by afromanGT: 31/10/2013 03:00:14 AM It's not about the travel, it's about respecting the agreement made when Fitzroy and Brisbane merged. We should have a minimum 5 games in Melbourne each year. Last season we only had 4. The 5th 'Melbourne' game was the game in Launceston against Hawthorn. It's a massive disrespect to the fans here by the AFL. Thankfully this season we have 5 again, but it was only through intense lobbying by the board. And so like I said, it wouldn't surprise me if we found ourselves again screwed over by this one. It was the last board who decided to sell of one of those Melbourne based games, when we were playing the Demons at the Gabba, but as a Melbourne home game. It won't be happening again, the backlash was immense. Edited by Funky Munky: 31/10/2013 10:29:41 AM

I'm fairly sure they'd have received some form of financial recompense as part of Hawthorn's deal with Tasmania in compensation for breaking the already standing deal the AFL And Brisbane have. It would be sheer incompetence on Brisbane's behalf if they hadn't.

I'm quite sympathetic to Melbourne-based lions fans. The problem is that it's the weaker Melbourne clubs selling their home games, and a chunk of those will feature non-vic opposition, and that means an increase in likelihood that the Melbourne based lions fans get fewer games in Melbourne.

Horrible opening fixture list for Collingwood with the first four games all being against top six opposition.

Have to wonder about AFL logic sometimes, yet again they've got Essendon v Hawthorn at Etihad and Essendon v Melbourne at the G. Stupid/10.

Edited by fredsta: 31/10/2013 02:43:51 PM That's called the "North Melbourne" schedule  We've got five of last year's top 8 in the opening 6 weeks, 2 trips to perth, 2 to Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane away.

Ugh, our Fixture sucks. Everyone seems to agree it's the hardest handed out. Just what we needed after this wonderful off season.

2011 Northern Lights player Renee Tong has come one step closer to realising her ambition of playing for her country again at IC14 after winning Canadian wellbeing and supplements company Genuine Health’s $10,000 prize for having the most votes in support of her athletic dream. You can hear an interview with Renee here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp4vLVwFFTA

Is there a list of 'draw strength' like they do with the NFL? ie. a coefficient based around the W-L record of that team's opponents in the previous season.

The AFL put up this article a little while ago, but that was just adding up each teams position on the ladder from the prior season. I know SEN also did something, where they added up the points scored difference of each team and then totalled it. We topped that as well, and were like double from the next highest.

There was an analysis of the draw done in one of the major papers recently, looking at position from previous year, 6 day breaks and travel - from memory, the Lions had the 4th toughest draw. I know SEN also did something, where they added up the points scored difference of each team and then totalled it. We topped that as well, and were like double from the next highest. The way I see it, essentially the difficulty of the draw is determined by the teams you play twice and how many times you have to travel interstate over the season. The NFL have a win-percentage co-efficient. ie. Wins divided by total games. So a 9-1 record would be .900, etc. So to get an idea of the season's draw strength I'd suggest: Interstate trips/11 multiplied by the number of wins in the W-L co-efficient. Eg. You play interstate 14 times, The combined winning record of the teams you play twice is 65-45. So 14/11=1.27. 1.27x65=82.55 wins. Giving a co-efficient of 0.647. The closer to .500 the co-efficient is, the more 'fair' the draw is. Someone who's good with excel do a spreadsheet for the teams.

So; Interstate Trips / 11 = Y Y x Wins of Teams you play Twice = Z Z / Total number of games played by teams you play twice? Yup. Total number of games of the teams you play twice is always 110. It's not a complicated spreadsheet, but I don't have excel on this computer. coeff = (Y x Z)/110 where Y = interstate trips/11 and Z = Total wins of teams you play twice EDIT: The idea of Y is that away games add difficulty so it works as a function multiplying the opponent wins prior to division and thus giving a higher co-efficeint for more away games or lower for less.
