I've seen two blogs on The Roar about their disappointment that a team like the Dockers has made the prelim finals.:lol:

Victorians ofc.

Apparently we're talking to Leppa. On one hand, I think he'd do well, he's well experienced as an assistant. On the other, it's really not an upgrade on Voss, all things considered.

An interesting statistic: this is the 19th year in a row that the Swans have had the highest average attendance across all clubs in all codes in Sydney.

Nothing to do with Victorian bias but I can't stand Freo tbh, nothing to do with geography but I can't stand any team coached by Ross Lyon, and they have quite a few cunts on the roster too.

I've got a soft spot for the Tiges so I'm disappointed by that too, I really hope he doesn't leave a good young team like Richmond for a bigger salary at a no hope club like Saint Kilda.

The guy's got neck tattoos and a terrible haircut, he's practically a Collingwood player already, and there's a reason that the pies aggressively cut 4 players straight off the bat at the end of the season. Just putting it out there.

Some NRL teams with over 100 years of history, the Waratahs, even SFC play at a stadium with a greater capacity than the SCG.

Another Sydney team had the title exactly 19 years ago.

NRL teams have a massive market saturation and none of the other 'competition' have the kind of financial prowess of the AFL behind them nor the pedigree of South Melbourne FC backing them to take advantage of the market share.

Also, since when does stadium size equate to determining crowd pull?

Like I said, no genuine competition.

Well, NRL is as big in Sydney as the AFL is as big in Melbourne.

I went back to 1994 to check which Sydney team did have the highest average attendance, it was Canterbury, with 16,335 (the Swans had 15,451), although worth mentioning that in that year Newcastle had 15,628 while Canberra had 16,454, probably the highest point the Raiders ever reached.

I find the afl membership thing confusing. If membership levels are so high, how are there empty seats during finals?

Neil Craig is apparently head of the list now. Wouldn't be the worst option, but I wouldn't be 100% sold. Leigh Tudor's name has been thrown around a lot too. If we were going to go for someone taking their first senior coaching job, he's the one I'm hoping for.

What has membership got to do with finals?

Two teams playing in a 50,000 seat stadium claiming to have over 100,000 members between them and they can't sell out the stadium for knock-out football?

You can't understand how this is questionable, but you linked stadium size in regard to attendances in rugby.

So what.
AFL finals tickets are very expensive.
Do people understand that members have to pay for finals tickets?

Wasn't the original question about memberships vis-a-vis finals attendances?

I'm simply making the point that finals tickets are expensive, and a member gets no special advantage over purchasing a finals ticket.

Fans will pick and choose their finals, some may not be able to afford two weeks of finals tickets, so they might skip the first week to see the second week or vice versa - got nothing to do with membership numbers.

There are obviously fans out there that don't have memberships that would attend, AFL members, etc. So for them to not be able to sell out a 50,000 seat stadium when they're claiming to have 100,000+ members between them is a joke.

Comments like these from people who despise the game but have nothing better to do with their lives than to enter a thread they have no interest in is just as sad imo.

How is the distinction between membership and a season ticket lost on so many people?
And as for finals attendance, how often does your HAL season ticket get you in to finals matches? Last I checked it didn't work for me.

Still not a good reflection of a club's support, marketing or appeal if - after removing AFL members, etc. from available tickets - they can't get less than half of their 'members' to show up to what are the most important games of their season.
