Sydney Olympic supports the local community in front of thousands

Sydney Olympic attended the Yarra Bay celebrations yesterday Sunday 9 January 2011, where in front of over ten thousand people and dignitaries such as opposition leader Mr Barry O’Farrell, acting Premier Mrs Carmel Tebbutt, Archbishop Stylianos, members of the community and local MP’s.

The Club had a loud blue and white presence with a large stall offering free Under 16s Season passes and also selling memberships for 2011 with giveaways and merchandise on sale.

In attendance at the Olympic store was former Newcastle jet winger and new signing for 2011 William Angel, young shot stopper and a goal keeper with a bright future, Nenad Vekic and surprise new signing that will be officially in the next few days.

Over 400 young Sydney Olympic fans signed up and received their Season Passes for 2011 with much excitement and anticipation to see Peter Tsekenis first grade team in action.

Finally we would like to thank everyone who attended the Epiphany Celebrations yesterday at Yarra Bay and a special mention to all the fans who visited our stall, it was a pleasure to interact with you and share the excitement we all have for the forthcoming season.

football in NSW is moving in leaps and bounds Sydney Tel Aviv FC has no answer

Drop the references to Israel. Its gone beyond a joke now. It comes across bitter and twisted, certainly not a good look.

As for football in NSW, how can it be moving in leaps and bounds if FNSW has been all but found to be an incompentent organisation, which an independant commission (not an FFA/ Frank Lowy one) found needed to have its board sacked and reorganised.

On the park numbers might be growing, but off field there is alot to overcome. Until that is fixed, your statement may need to be reconsidered.

Damn this guy/girl/it needs to be banned. You love to take on battles with people, calling them names, then making rediculous statements to try and discredit their opinions, POV or their contributions to this site.

Its beyond a joke the amount of comments you make, which have no other reason but to provoke or spin things your own way, by any means, where truth often becomes the victim.

No one here has a blind love for the FFA, but we have a balanced view of the game, unclouded by blue and white. The game is bigger than Olympic or South Melbourne, which is something you fail to grasp.

You post so much BS, its time people did stand up and stop you on your crusade to discredit anything that has to do with the FFA, or anything that is not blue and white. You make statements that deliberately provoke others, then turn around and claim others started it. Grow up.

I give credit to Sydney Olympic for the inititives they do, which is great to see, but I will not hear of the countless BS that you and a few others use to try and derail others as they make opinions, or have inititives that have equal or greater value.

Good for your club, but dont expect people to get excited if people like you are going to go around ruining, or devaluing, others.

You do understand that Australian Football is for the discussion of the HAL, NYL, WL, Socceroos, Matildas etc? Along with Australian players overseas? The Grassroots section is for the discussion of all football below that level? You also understand that the requests would not have been for them to limit themselves to the Grassroots section but to post their threads pertaining to grassroots football in the correct section of the site in order to keep it ordered?

Unending belligerence is not a good way to get your points across, try entering into dialogue - you will be amazed at how better received it is.

This is a ver important point in which 90% of this forum fails to understand.

No one on this forum was at the event, there was 10,000 + people there and Sydney Olympic stall had all of them come over and give there support, they had record numbers register for the under 16's passes and sold merchandise.

These 10,000 people have been frozen out today.

People on here need to understand that the a-league does not have a fan base apart from the bandwagon affect victory has created for themselves and good luck to them for that. CCM has managed to create a community spirit and good luck to them, hopefully Newcastle can replicate that to.

But clubs with massive followings like Olympic being tossed out to dry is wrong and until the FFA changes themselves or that fact Australian football will continue to suffer and have a strong number of supporters screaming for its failure.

First of all, 'newdawners' struggled to find a connection to the game in the past, so stayed away, even if they were interested. How is that a bad thing that they are norw connected to our game? Only if the eyes of those who wanted to keep the game small and marginalised would that thought process ever come to anyones mind.

I, like many that follow the HAL, have been involved in the game for many years, through mostly the bad times unfortunately, and finally the game gains some traction and all we see is those trying to bring it down. I really do not see what good getting rid of Lowy would do, as it will not help the game, it will only see us slide into the abyss again. Oh yes, wait a minute, there will suddenly be a power vacuum, and a time machine will appear and things will return to the 1990's again. How great :)

Even today, with the HAL in the position it is now, we are in a far stronger position than a decade ago, when there were a few richer clubs, many poor ones and a broke national body. What good does that do? Absolutely nothing.

people stayed away in the past because they feared people that could only speak broken english, that these people would stab them during half time and take their spare cash.. seriously all these people needed to do was get beyond the prejudices for the people that created and nurtured our game to be embraced by it and them; many times i saw asians arabs and aussies at SOFC marconi games and so on because they actually went to a game and saw for themselves that the prejudices were false. they ENJOYED the football, they ENJOYED the cultural melting pot, they ENJOYED cevapi with ahhnion farken, they join in and everybody integrates, thats how its supposed to work


people are connected now? like the 4000 at fury games? like the 6000 at sydney fc games? like the 1500 at gold coast games? this is proof that everyone was open to the idea of a new beginning, we gave it a chance we gave it six seasons and it denies our football identity and history and hasnt made a profit either. you guys were all keen to sell all our souls to make a few dollars 'for the good of the game' but you havent done that either, sydney fc to lose 12mil in two years alone!! next step for you guys is to hostile takeover the states and overcharge kids to play that is disgusting


as for the power vacuum.. good point i guess. there isnt really another person right now that the football loyalists can say 'we can kick out Lowy today and X will be in tomorrow doing a better job'. That being said, who has manufactured this environment? Lowy. why? so he can hold on for as long as possible.

Perception is key, and like it or not, people must feel comfortable to get involved. Carrying Greek or Croatian flags into games, with chants in different languages, how is that making people connect? I can see your point, but the reality is very different in peoples minds, as it became a game of politics and one with so many ethnic fracture points, it was not a comfortable, or even a good foundation, base to build on.

Lowy had to save the game when he came in, as the game was broke, had no corporate support and was on the brink of falling off the cliff. Do you really think all that was done was easy? Sometimes hard decisions are made to get things back on tracck, and as the brands of Soccer Australia and the NSL had become poison, drastic action was needed.

Not everyone was going to agree with the outcomes though, which is always the case, but things are stronger today than they were a decade ago. Anyone that says otherwise is so short sighted, or ignorant to the realities that existed. Its not perfect, and hjas room for improvement, but its better than many alternatives.

But it does not go into detail about who did fund it, it appears forrest wanted it to use as ammo against those that started the internal review, may actually backfire on him now.
