Ok so they need more teams into the a-league from NSW there has been much talk about Western Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra, Inner Sydney and the like what do we think, ill post what i think the strengths are of the current clubs and you guys can all ellborate this is not an agenda driven topic just real football talk:

1) South Coast Wolves - the have the whole Illawarra Catchment area, rich in football history, two times National Football League champions, they do not have any assets apart from community spirit. WIN Stadium fits the bill and many ex-soceroos hail form the area. Not good stadium Deal

2) Marconi Stallions - South West Sydney, very very rich in football history, 3 times national football league champions, have the knowledge, the history, the money from the social club which is a gem of social clubs in the south west, they have the perfect size facilities what more do you want? Great Stadium Deal

3) Sydney Olympic FC - St George,Canterbury Bankstown Areas, have a large large supportter base, have a great facility in Belmore Sports Ground, two time national football legaue champions, have always been one of the best in the country in terms of sponsorship, would make a great rivalry with Sydney FC and would bring derbies into the Sydney A-League system. Great Stadium Deal

4) Canberra - UNKNOWN Quantity, failed in the NSL with a community team the ethnic card cannot be blammed on this one, however its a decent sized city, seem to be able to get govt backing, has a good sized stadium the stadium deal is unknown to us, not sure about the qualities of this one.

5) Blacktown City Demons, have NSL experiance, a club with a long history, there facility is something with some work could be ok, a north/west sydney team might work, strong rugby league territory but we either go had or die trying

6) Sydney United FC, South West Sydney side, large history, top failities what more do you want? great stadium deal, experiance.

I think after 6 years out of the Top League it is time to seriously get over it my friend.

As far as I am aware no current NSWPL club has ever tendered for an A-League licence so I'm not sure how this could be an option. I'm sure some of these clubs have set their sights on participation in a B-league competition.

Wollongong annd Canberra are obviously still potential areas for A-League expansion whilst the FFA obviously appear still keen to get the Rovers up and running in Western Sydney.

You mean apart from living in NSW for over ten years?

1) New Zealand Knights - makes sense, seeing as their final average crowd was higher than Olympic's current average?

2) YoungHeart Manawatu - Unknown quantity, not ethnic, green is a nice colour. Boutique ground.

3) Hekari United - How many times has SOFC been to the Club World Cup? If SOFC are to be included then Hekari surely deserves a place too.

Im pretty sure it'd be pretty difficult for any community team to join the a-league.
One of the conditions is to give the FFA your naming rights... would kill off the club

I don't understand why the Sutherland Shire is overlooked as a footballing area so much.

The FFA gives franchise holders $1.2m from the tv rights...

But they charge $1.5m per season for the franchise license.

I can not beleive the macarthur rams even got a mention in the thread, the rams and a-league should not even be in the same conversation if thats the case why not start running of more terrible teams, like the Camden Tigers or Eschol Park Wolves? a Marconi and Rams merged team in the a-league would flop faster than the Fury.

I played for the Eschol park wolves as a junior. Could you imagine having them associated with the a-league Claymore would turn it into green street hooligans
