currently reading the biography of reg date.
the dude was an absolute weapon from all reports. if this book is giving him an unexaggerated account of events (which i really don't see likely), he has to be the best player australia has ever had, and arguably one of the best ever players in the world. wish i was around to see him play tbh.

Finished the Inheritance cycle. Great finish to the series, sad but not surprised it ended in the way it did.
Reading that final book made me hate the people who made the first book into a film even more. I'd love to see a movie adaptation of it.

About a third of the way through Elantris - which is Brandon Sanderson's debut book (ie the guy that wrote the last few Wheel of Time books).

Anyone read the wheel of time series? I've book one and want some opinions on whether to start reading it as 13 books seems like it could possibly get lost and lose its quality.

I've read up to Book 10 I think. Then stopped as they were taking ages to come out. The first..5..I think it was were really good. Then a lot started to happen, heaps of characters, heaps of plots because everyone was all over the place across the world. Politics etc. The world is really detailed and some of the characters are really awesome.
Now that the final book is out, I can try and get back into it and jump in where I left off haha (I haven't read a WoT book in years though). I heard the later books aren't too bad since Sanderson wrote them (go figure).
Read the first book and see how you go. The first one is a typical fantasy journey adventure and a lot of the main characters are innocent and naive in regards to the outside world (you'll see some massive similarities with LOTR to start with). But the characterisation and character progression with the main characters is pretty damn impressive and on a large scale.

Don Winslow. So good.
Moreso crime fiction than thriller though.
Anything is great. Savages, Winter of Frankie Machine, Power of the Dog, all of it.

Finally about to start The Fountainhead...has been sitting there waiting for a bit... :)
Just finished H-H Hoppe's The God that Failed...was great until i got to the Conservatism and Libertarianism chapter...i think i qualify as one of his hated moral relativists! Guy has a thing for the hierarchy of the family, wife must have left him...and thinks homosexual "deviants" should stay closeted...issues...

Edited by blacka: 26/2/2013 07:42:29 PM I hated The Fountainhead. I stopped reading about 300 pages in. I found the way Rand wrote characters like Keating and Toohey justifying their mediocrity pathetic. (Actually everything about the way she wrote Toohey was pathetic) Rand can shove her Objectivism as far up any orifice of her 30 year old corpse.

Wow now i'm even more keen....my impression of her other work is that she wasnt into justifying mediocrity ...i like her Objectivism otherwise despite having already swallowed a very negative second hand impression of her, previous to actually reading the stuff. have to be careful here no spoilers lol! I found with Atlas Shrugged i was still bored around page 300...there is a scene at Dagny's brothers wedding... i think its D'anconia's speech ...where it all sunk in. Probably more the 500pg mark

I seem to be an addict, I read an article the other day on Raymond E. Feist and it appears that the Rift War saga is about to finally end. Because of this I'm now rereading the Magician and have bought the following and still looking out for more (on the cheap)
Silverthorn A Darkness at Sethanon Prince of the blood Shadow of a Dark Queen Rise of a Merchant Prince Rage of a Demon King Shards of a broken Crown
I haven't read these books since my early 20's late teens and I gotta say, they're still as good as I remember.

Is anyone else up to date with A Song of Ice and Fire? Couldn't wait for the show, and heard it was best to read the books anyway, so I've pretty much devoured the 5 books over the past month.
George R.R Martin is a bastard, and will kill everyone you know and love. God damn.

Anyone read the jack reacher series? I just bought Killing Floor (becasue it's the first and I'd like an idea of what the character is supposed to be like comparitive to the film and whether I should bother seeing it). Is he as awesome as Jack Ryan from Tom Clancy or more subtle?

So over the weekend bought the first book of A Game Of Thrones. Couldn't help myself, raced out and bought the first season on DVD whilst I was at it, too.. I'm going to wait until I've read the book however until I crack open the DVD. Great thing about picking up the DVD was I got the second book as a freebie from JB-HI FI. So now I've got that. About 200 pages into the book and absoloutly loving it. Can't wait to see the DVD as well. Yeah, I'm hooked on GOT now.
