So over the weekend bought the first book of A Game Of Thrones. Couldn't help myself, raced out and bought the first season on DVD whilst I was at it, too.. I'm going to wait until I've read the book however until I crack open the DVD. Great thing about picking up the DVD was I got the second book as a freebie from JB-HI FI. So now I've got that.

About 200 pages into the book and absoloutly loving it. Can't wait to see the DVD as well. Yeah, I'm hooked on GOT now.

Warning you, get hooked on the show and world as a whole, but don't ever get hooked on one character you will regret it

Had this hit me, no one in particular, so hard. Enough so that I'm running with the fact that said character is not 100% confirmed dead.

Fuck you George R.R. Martin.

Watch out for episode 9 this season... some seriously fucked up shit goes down

I seriously cannot wait for it. I'm not even watching the show, I'm just hanging out for the reactions afterwards. I hope they do it right.

After their Blackwater episode last season I have complete faith in them getting it right.

Followed the bandwagon to reading Songs of Ice and Fire. I made the grave mistake of watching the TV series before reading. It was really hard getting through when much of the first book is like someone has been paid to write down exactly what was on the screen.
I'm currently on the second book thankfully the tv series has started drifting away from being exactly the same and I know don't have that weighing so heavily on my imagination.

My mate let slip to me that
episode 9 will be brutal and crush me.
So i'm just gonna bump this quote for when I sit down to watch it.

As for the books, plan to get into them soon. Just finishing Dave Grohl's biography, so I'll start after that.

MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!
This might be a stupid question, but does Robb get decapitated then his head replaced with the direwolf or not?

When I read the book, it ends with Catelyn getting her throat cut, yet the wiki claims Robb had the head transplant...
HBO the new Book! way too much talk about the TV show here than the book, or books in general for that matter. Take it to the TV thread!

Also keep spoilers to your self about books and show. I've read nor seen it as yet and am looking forward to it.

Sorry to have to be the Narc on this.

Met Feist on the Weekend at Supanova, was interesting to here him speak on his novels and he even took it in good humour when people started comparing his twists and spoilers to that of George RR Martin.

I never got a chance to ask my question and he wasn't doing personalize signings so my book only got the old john handcock on it.

Also George RR Martin is coming to Sydney and Brisbane (Supanova event) in November to talk all things Song of fire and ice and GoT along with many cast members.

I can't believe there hasn't been a Magician series or movie yet.

Surely it'll happen sooner or later right now that fantasy is kinda cool atm?

Also, Richard Matheson died overnight.

yeah I heard about Matheson this morning. Some really great stuff he wrote and never got the public acclaim he deserve for his books, especially for the bastardization of his work by hollywood.

Feist mentioned he was going to LA to talk to someone about maybe using his work for something, but he doesn't have much faith in it coming of anything. Maybe another Computer game.

Uni is over - I can read again!

Finished Zombie Survival Guide last night - loved it. I learned a bit, but mostly it was good for reassurance that my Zombie apocalypse plan is pretty decent, and may work.

Hopefully will smash out World War Z now, before I go to see it at the movies (even though all I hear is the book is not portrayed in the movie much at all).

About 170 pages into book two of GOT: Reall good stuff. Hadn't spend my $100 voucher from the local bookstore from my birthday last year, so went out and got the next 4. Lots and lots of reading ahead.

Really enjoying the story so far.

Slowly reading two versions of the Art Of War atm.

Stanley Bronstein's Sun Tzu's Art of War for the 21st Century

" The Art of War is primarily about (i) understanding of one’s situation; (ii) understanding of extremes; and (iii) taking the knowledge gained from the understanding of the extremes and applying it to your advantage. Stanley Bronstein updates this masterpiece originally written about warfare and applies it to today's modern society."

and The Art of War by Sun Tzu and Lionel Giles.

"This is the most important book ever written about warfare and conflict. Lionel Giles' translation is the definitive edition. The Art of War can be used and adapted in every facet of your life. This book explains when and how to go to war, as well as when not to. Learn how to win any conflict whether it be on the battlefield or in the boardroom."

Highly recommend everyone reads Battle Royale by Koushun Takami. It's basically where Suzanne Collins got the idea for The Hunger Games. I personally think BR is better and once you get your head around the Japanese names, it's a great read.

My old man saw the movie on super late night Fox, and went online instantly and bought it. I watched it with him, and can confirm it's so batshit crazy mental it's amazing. Number 2 was shithouse though.

Keen to read the books

Half way through GoT: A Storm of Swords Part 2.

Sums me up.
And just as Ayra was about to be reuinted with her family :(. Still don't know what to make of Ygritte's death. Was kinda hoping Jon Snow would abandon the Knights Watch and run away with her and just have a lifetime of hot ranga sex. If I were in his shoes, and she was as hot and fiesty as in TV adaptation, I know what I'd be choosing. I suppose that was to be expected, the moment he turned heel again.

Really hoping Danearys comes to her senses and shags Jorah. You know deep down she wants too.
Anyone read American Gods? I've been told it's really good and was thinking of adding it to my library for future reading.

There has been a lot of talk about turning it into a TV series or Film in the future?

Finally finished the last of Feist's Rift war Saga. Wow! pretty massive taste ending 20+ years of writing. I think it was done really well and lifted up a series that had stagnated a bit. You could see how it was going to end from a mile away but many things still were surprising.

I have to say, after devoting the past 6 months to reading and buying all of the novels (some of them twice since selling them previously) I am satisfied and hope that the one loose end isn't pulled on by Publishers to get Feist to return to Medkemia and ruin an otherwise brilliant Series.

though I do need to add that Feist fails many times with his linergy as I'd read about something happening and then 2-3 books later that person seems to have never been there or had that child. Main issues with Talon of the Silver Hawk and Exiles return but you get that I guess.

Good bump.

The mrs is making me read all of her Tess Gerritsen novels. I'm about halfway through the first one & am actually enjoying it.

She's just started on the Jack Reacher series, and couldn't put the first one down.
