Barracuda by Christos tsiolkas
His follow up to the slap
Its sports based and retains a bit of its ethnic lit angle to it
But parts of this book just meanders, im suspecting a film or another mini series adaptation with probably Alex Dimitriades (a tsiolkas adaptation regular) to make another appearance

Just finished 'The Book Thief.' It was a really great book with a lot of conflicting feels, I hope the movie does it justice.

Been reading a bit about the history of certain foods lately. New York Oyster, Salt and lastly The World of Caffeine. All great books for subtly different reasons, with Salt being the stand out.
Read Salt for a different perspective of history and enjoy brilliant engaging writing. The World of Caffeine is also great if you're a big caffeine consumer and want to understand what it actually does (as well as how it - coffee, tea and cocoa effected society at different stages of history).
Currently I'm reading The French Quarter. Basically the history of New Orleans based on it's dodgy characteristics. So far so good, but only a hundred pages or so into it. Should come in handy for when I eventually visit the place.

Storm of Swords then, either way I've got the 7 in a box set so it really is just a typo. less than 40 pages left so I'll be reading the next one along by bed time tonight! Also reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with my eldest daughter, I love this book as it was the first book I ever borrowed and read from the library (and Charlie and the great Glass Elevator as well), which started my love of reading.

Audiobook for this week is Masters Of Doom by David Kushner, read by Wil Wheaton.
It's the story of Carmack & Romero and the rise & fall of id software.

It just keeps blowing my mind
the bit where you're all grieving over the death of Bran and Rickon and then they're actually alive and Theon getting done over in the greatest fashion possible
I keep being blown away by the awesomeness of these books. I really can't pick a good side or a bad side in this. They all have their faults; but over all I just want to see
a reunion of the dire wolves with their masters
Yeah most of those events you descried are (obviously) better in the book than how they did them in the shows, which is understandable. What annoyed me the most was Jon's story in Season 2. They farked that up big time compared to how awesome it was in Clash of Kings.

I've not watched any of the show yet, Will hopefully get a start on it soon though. once I've caught up to the show in books and watched them as well I'll be into the GoT tread for certain having a say about Book Vs Show.

Just finished reading Moneyball. I really enjoyed the movie, and wasn't disappointed with the book. I love those kind of insights into the sporting world.
After watching The Book Thief last night, I'll be reading that book next.
Afterwards I'll go another football book - I read about 5 in the space of a month or two and couldn't get through the last one (Inverting the Pyramid) I assume because I needed a change

If you want another football book may I suggest The Ball is Round by David Goldblatt. Basically a complete and comprehensive history of football all over the world

Edited by mvfcarsenal16.8: 18/2/2014 09:38:01 PM I got the copy that came with the Molvanian Idle recording (could have been national anthem). My favourite protip in the book? All women should bring a spare pair of shoes if it is their first experience using one of Molvania's many female urinals...

Questions of Travel
By michelle de kretser
An elongated, drawn out, over descriptive book about an Australian lady who struggles to find contentment and fulfillment in traveling, and the other side, a sri lankan asylum seeker who finds travel a form of necessity in terms of seeking asylum
For all its descriptiveness, not a lot of it seemed relevant, in terms of the fleetingness of everything, or not much mattered in the end result, and it also had a depressing ending

Holly fuck yeah! The rains of castlemere! So messed up right now, I cant sleep. I know there's so much more to come 150 pages in out of 554. Where were these books when I had time to read all night! Less than 100 pages to go in this novel now. So much fucking wow!!!! it's driving me nuts. I honestly have no idea where this is going and I'm loving every minute of it! where have these novels been all my life! also checkout the Axis or Awesome Rage of thrones Youtube clip, it's hilarious, no spoilers either. Now starting Feast for Crows and it appears t be focusing on yet a whole new angle. can't wait to see where this next 780 odd pages go!

AFFC and ADWD are both a bit slower but they are good nonetheless.

This book left me staring off into space for hours at a time trying to digest it and left me sleepless more than once. I fear that I will judge all following books by this one and be disappointed. I just hope against hope that I can convince myself that it is all one really big book and thusly all apart of the same story, just mere chapters in the end. Edited by Rocknerd: 11/3/2014 04:31:59 PM
