I read 1984 and Animal Farm back-to-back. DO NOT DO THIS!

you may be a right wing leaning individual but afterwards you'll end up a leftie Socialist!

 you & aurevior with your leftie ways

PS I don't consider myself left OR right - I consider myself aligned with whatever Clive Palmer believes in that hour.

Finished reading 1984. I actually stayed up ridiculously late last night to finish off the entire second half of it, as I was so wrapped up in it  man, I loved it! Certainly did not head in the direction I thought it would do in the second half of it, from what they built up in the first half of it!

However I feel super insignificant now. I hate Tony Abbott, Liberals, Labours, and all politicians now. This book has done nothing good for my mental state I've been in for the last 1-2 years in regards to certain things

But far out, I don't think I'll forget how much I enjoyed reading that book, and how much it hit me, for a long while.

Not sure I can just go ahead and start a new book just now, I need time to settle down from that one

yeah that scene is probably the most mind bending of all, I'd like to think that I wouldn't budge but self preservation is a powerful thing.
As I said, I read it back to back with Animal farm and was in full political meltdown for about a month. I railed for the fact that no one else was!

A colleague came round and complained about "tea rationing! That's a thing around here now?!"
and I commented that "our chocolate ration has been decreased from 30 grams to 20 grams per day"

They didn't know wtf I was talking about :(

edit: I realise that its 20 grams per week in the book...ah well. I misquoted, but my point still stands

Just finished "Words of Radiance" in Brandon Sanderson's 'Stormlight Archive' series. Holy shit, that book was incredibly good and really has wanting more.

For those interested the first book in the series is 'The Way of Kings.' So far there are 2 books released and the series is planned to be 10 books long. I love the fact that Sanderson is a book writing machine yet still produces really high quality stuff.

Finished reading Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, halfway through One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Been going heaps good lately, done Hells Angels by Hunter S. Thompson, Dharma Bums and On The Road by Kerouac, a Ginsberg collection and Alan Watts' autobiography

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Oo nice. I loved the Mistborn trilogy but I would say that this series is even better IMO.

Also started reading Warbreaker also by Sanderson. Solid read so far, not quite on the level of Mistborn or Stormlight Archive.

Currently labouring through SAF's autobiography, which tbh is very poorly written compared to how I thought it would be.

After that I think I'm going to have a good solid read of the bible, to get a bit more of an in-depth look at how much or how little interests me.

The first book was awesome. And was rather self contained and could have ended right there.
The second book...didn't live up to the first. I felt it dragged quite a bit and nothing happened for long periods.
Too early to judge book 3 since I only just hit 100 pages I think.

Hells Angels is great, very lucid and wonderfully written, has Kesey and the pranksters in it, in fact the most disturbing scene of the book is at one of their parties

Picked up George RR Martin's World of Ice and Fire today. $35 from QBD for a really nice hardcover book, haven't delved too much into it yet but it is very well presented with some nice artworks in it. Will post more as I get into reading it

Flight being delayed led to me obtaining The Moaning of Life by Karl Pilkington. I'm already about 3/4 through it, it's a pretty short read, but man am I enjoying it. I haven't yet had the chance to read or watch Idiot Abroad or watch Moaning of Life, but I know of Pilkington from the Ricky Gervais Show. He's such a dry, funny writer - and the beauty of it is I don't think he's even meaning to be funny.

''Heap House''
Is a treasure of a trash tale by Edward Carey...

It's an intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate book, unflinching in its depictions of casual cruelty and systematic exploitation.
Once I recovered, however, I resolved to read everything Carey's ever written, because Heap House is, its heart of trash notwithstanding, an absolute treasure…

Read it guys!

I finished the first book of the Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones series. Absolutely loved it! I'm honestly glad I watched the show first so I have an easier/more conveniant mental image of it all - I don't think my imagination would have done it justice. What I did notice was the book was nearly word-for-word aligned to the TV series. When does it start to deviate between the two (I assume the TV show does a little bit)?

In between Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings, I just read Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Turns out I'd never read it before. Freaking loved it, absolutely loved it. Fxxx me, Lex is annoying in it though
