He played well in that Perth game and I sat back and thought 'wow we have a player here' but unfortunately for the club he just couldn't produce the goods consistently and seemed to have a few attitude problems. Don't really miss him

Soccer Stoppage Time has said that Matt Thompson will not be signing with us. Good move IMO, bring in a youth player instead or a better quality player.

If need be due to North and Smith being fit and first choice, push donachie into defensive mid to take defensive pressure off bratts?

I still don't think we gave him enough time, he did show some really good signs. A shame really, we desperately missed someone to take some pressure of Broich last season.


I'm quite pleased with that. For me he's just a squad player and given his age he won't be anything more. Diogo Ferreira has just taken that role and he's still at a youngish age so he has potential on his side to become more of a 'squadie'

Brockie (unlikely as he has 2 years left in Wellington and is impressing on loan a Toronto) or Killen (playing in China) I am of course assuming it is a forward/attacking mid... will it take a visa spot.??.. how does that work with Kiwis?

Fairly sure they take up a foreign spot.

If they have dual citizenship it doesn't take up a visa spot like Smeltz but Kosta doesn't so who would take up a visa spot.

This guy is pretty hit and miss. If it's any I personally think it would be down to these guys.

Yeah, the guy tweeted that Eduoard Duplan was a done deal, and he didn't end up signing for us. So I don't trust his judgment a whole lot.

Yep he's really hit and miss but it's the off-season may as well post it.

Unless we make some decent signings (2-3 players, inc. striker and CAM) I don't think we will do much this season.

The way Adelaide and CCM have recruited in comparison, Roar aren't giving us much to get excited about. What's the use of our billionaire Indonesian owners if they don't open their wallets

The owners are making sure that we have a club to support, and to be perfectly honest the club has always kept any contract negotiations very tightly, so no news does not worry me so much.

I agree we need a CAM (I cannot see a logical replacement for Nichols in our squad currently), but I don't think we need a backup striker with Yeboah, Doe and Petratos on the books (I prefer Yeboah as the backup).

I actually prefer the club to not rush into any signings and make sure that they get the right player rather than just any player, that's how we got Thomas and Bes

This. People who whinge about a lack of signings frustrate me. Sure, it's annoying, but you want to find the best players possible, not just some also rans. As mentioned by JiMMM, the Roar keep everything they do very secretive, which is quite professional. Better than Melbourne Heart who are linked to someone every week. I'm sure we'll sign some good players before the season starts.

By the way has anyone been to training this week and seen any new players trialling with us?

I definitely appreciate these posts but I do also empathise with people who may be looking fo us to make some bold announcements or targets. We're no longer the club that's 'almost there', we're a big club and a major player, people expect us to be a bit more ambitious.

Ive updated the squad in OP, hopefully its correct.

We definitely need to make some signings, the key areas for me are striker and midfielder.

I was going to say defender but Donachie seems to have filled the Adnan void and done a good job.

Looking beyond next season though, we need major recruitment. Goalkeeper, winger, left back, right back, another versatile midfielder.

Still no team line-ups for tonight. :(

I know @brisbaneroar on twitter is average, i can find out who is running out in a CSL2 game but not for my own club trial...

Normally on Facebook we're very good. :(

....and Hingert, Lamba, Brown, Litfin and Yeboah from the squad players. Entire team replaced at h/t by a new team which included Bratts, Steff and Doe from within the squad. Final score: Lions 1 BR 0.

Players looked rusty and not as match-fit as lions players, as you'd expect. No-one really stood out but if I had to give a 3-2-1 it would be to Bratts, Smith and Yeboah for showing some intent. Commendations for Petratos and Hingert.

Plenty of players missing and plenty of work to do. We need an attacking mid urgently.....
