Not against the signing was just surprised, will give us a bit of depth up front finally. Think this is the first time we have actually had two strikers contracted at the same time since Reinaldo left?

For the berisha era we didn't have a back up striker. we had lots of wingers, myers fitzy danning. but no out and out strikers.

Just got a members email to confirm:

Brisbane Roar has welcomed 2011 Premiership and Championship winner Jean Carlos Solorzano back to the Hyundai A-League club.

The Costa Rican striker, known as Nico by his teammates, has signed with the club until the end of the current campaign.

Head Coach Mike Mulvey was pleased to see Solorzano back at the Roar, where he scored 11 goals in the victorious Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.

“As a club, we were looking for a quality player to add depth to the squad after the departure of Kwame Yeboah,” Mulvey said.

“We wanted to add a goal-scoring option off the bench, someone who is capable of scoring late goals and Nico is proven goal-scorer in this competition.”

Solorzano will wear the number 16 jersey and could be available for selection for this Sunday’s Hyundai A-League home match against Central Coast Mariners pending his international clearance.

I'm glad we've signed a second striker. Last week showed Henrique is not the answer up front if Bes isn't on the field. Now we have a back-up option.

Also reports we've tried to re-sign Lustica. Not sure if we need him tbh. Plenty of cover in his position. Don't know how we'd have any SC space either

Henrique plays a critical role and gives us a much different dimension of play. You're right that he's no goal scorer but I predict he'll play beautifully together with Sol.

Why are some people so sure Brattan is going to leave? Surely not just because he's playing very well and another club might snap him up?

Have I missed something in the past that's been reported, said by the club or Brattan or what? Keen to know.

I guess some feel his top form means he will look to move to Europe in the off-season. He has a British passport, so he won't encounter any red tape if he wanted to make that move. But if that's the case, why not wait until the off-season to sign Lustica?

I just think that 1. His agent will be pushing for a move overseas. 2. Playing in the best team in the league brings a little more attention to your play.

Nothing has been reported, but I just wouldn't be surprised if clubs are in talks with Brisbane ATM.

Taking my shit stirring aside, I believe it's because Mulvey believes we don't have adequate midfield back-up when injuries occur as last game showed. I think it's simple as that!

Cheers. To mind that would make it less than a 50% chance of him going and little to get overly concerned about at this stage.

The only positive in signing Solor is that it gives us an option up front instead of Henrique. Personally I would be happy to let Dimi play up front too. He has been awesome.

However, a short term signing is not the worst. Hopefully he remembers where the goal is.

I see him as a squad player at the moment but what a great squad player he is.

What excites me about a Solo type player is that he'll suit the Roar playing style and culture.

Unless of course the gaffer slowly dismantles it.

We're still using the Ange system and style thank goodness. More and more high balls a beginning to creep in the passing game and if skill-less players like Miller are brought in - it will be the beginning of the dismantling.

Who knows what under the direction of the gaffer will Stead bring in?

Report I found but never came across before about Brattan potentially leaving.

Quote:
Report: Arnold chases Brattan.
Posted: November 25, 2013 | Author: Scott | Filed under: Uncategorized | Leave a comment »
Via Marco: New Vegalta Sendai manager Graham Arnold is reportedly keen on taking Brisbane midfielder Luke Brattan with him to the J-League. It seems like Arnold is planning on taking a couple of Australians with him as he embarks on his Japanese adventure with Melbourne Victory’s Mark Milligan, Adelaide United’s Osama Malik and Western Sydney Wanderers’ Aaron Mooy all in consideration.

Brattan, 23, has emerged into one of the league’s premiere central midfielders since filling the void left by Erik Paartalu’s departure. All up Brattan has made just shy of 50 appearances in Orange with two goals and has long been touted as having the best passing game in the club and also has international experience with the Australian u/20 side.

Brattan has been in fantastic form so far this season starting every game in his now customary #6 position, and also scored against the Jets a couple of weeks back. He’s also been a cornerstone of the side under the early months of Mulvey’s reign and has a contract here in Brisbane through the 2014-15 season and Mulvey has made it clear in the press today that he’s not available and on the transfer list.

“We don’t sell our good players, there’s no offer that’s going to be too good to refuse when it comes to Luke. We don’t need to sell him and we’re not going to sell him. He’s committed to Brisbane, we’re a big club and he’s doing very well. Luke wants to be with us.”

At this stage having yet to complete a full season as a starter in this league, it’s probably not the ideal time for Brattan to move overseas. It would be interesting to see how Brattan went in the J-League, I think he’s got the technique to make it in Japan, but im not sure it would be the greatest move for him. It goes without saying that it would be a massive loss for Brisbane should a move eventuate, and would create a massive hole in the side, which would initially have to be filled by Diogo Ferreira, or youngsters Devante Clut and Ben Litfin. Despite the seemingly strong interest of Arnold, I don’t think Brattan will be going anywhere in January.

There are certainly more long or high balls, then there used to be under Ange, but it's a legitimate weapon if used correctly to break down a highline defence. it's true sometimes Roar players use it too much as they did in the first half against WP last weekend. But I much prefer a long ball out of defence, if the backs cannot play out from the back, rather than cheap turnovers leading to goals.Which characterised Anges last few months at the Roar and the Dark Years under Rado.

The long balls are a direct instruction by Mike, it makes us unpredictable and gives us an element of surprise against teams.

It's also why we've scored more long shots this season then we have in previous years - Ange told the boys that they should keep the ball moving and we score in the box - MM has told them to have more shots etc.

I actually don't mind the style of football. A few long balls I don't mind as it provides an unpredictability about us. Especially when we people like Broich, Miller and Brattan who can pick out that inch perfect pass or cross.

I hope we can continue this and it becomes a style and culture of the club. Our style and cultures needs to be implemented from the youth right up to the first team and in all the coaches.

My only issue is defence. We look shaky at the back and have conceded some very soft goals. You can be strong up front, but you need to be solid at the back. We still haven't replaced Adnan. That lad was immense. North isn't cutting it for me. Much rather have Donachie in the centre and Brown on the left.
