Friday night Id like the see Theo Polenz-North-Donks-Brown Clut Commander-Bratts-McKay BB-Andrija-Broich
Think theyd cause some damage against the Mariners. Sarota is too defensive to play that RAM role IMO.

So I've done some thinking and have come up with a 2 team rotation system that we could (should) be implementing... at least partially, given our current workload. Theo Polenz-LDV-Donks-Brown Fish-Brats-McKay BB-Andrija-Broich
Vs
Young Hingert-North-Steff-Bowles Sarota-Lambo Dimi-Lustica-Brady JCS
Leaves Clut, Litfin, Jackson to come in for either side. At the minimum would be a sick full training game to watch. Edited by roary's mane: 8/3/2015 03:06:43 PM

Brisbane Roar could make up to two changes to the 16-player squad that lost 4-1 to Western Sydney Wanderers with defenders Jade North and Daniel Bowles passed fit for tomorrow’s Round 23 match against Melbourne City at AAMI Park. North has struggled with a groin strain since the club’s historic AFC Champions League 1-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan three weeks ago while a stomach illness kept Bowles out of the squad on Wednesday night at Suncorp Stadium. Luke Brattan, who played at the centre of defence with stand-in captain Shane Stefanutto against the Wanderers, said it would be a big boost if North started against sixth-placed City tomorrow. “Jadeo is a tremendous player and he’s big for our team,” he said. The Roar is still missing four players to international duty with Matt McKay and Luke DeVere away with the Socceroos and Corey Brown and James Donachie in Chinese Taipei with the Australia Under 23s. With Thomas Broich (ankle), Henrique (knee) and Michael Theo (groin) also not available to play tomorrow, Head Coach Frans Thijssen can select from a host of the club’s younger players like Brandon Borrello, Devante Clut and Lachlan Jackson to fill the void. “All the older boys have a lot of faith in the younger boys that come in,” Brattan said. “They train with us every day and when they do come in, they should do a job. “We expect nothing less than 100 per cent and they’ve proven themselves.” A win against John van ‘t Schip’s side would still keep Brisbane two points out of the Hyundai A-League top six but with a match in hand. http://www.brisbaneroar.com.au/article/late-boost-for-roar/t8p34n73927e1heawqrygainfSome good news for the City game.

Did any of you go to the Q&A session that was hold recently. Just read the post on reddit r/aleague, it seemed to be a pretty open and frank discussion on this season events. I think it also gave more clarity on the whole philosophy and up front said frans won't be coach next year.

Quote:Q: Why is Mulvey not the coach anymore? Sean Dobson: there's a way we want to train, play and a lot came from our time with Ange. There were concerns at the end of the last season. Mike wasn't getting the most out of his staff. Ken Stead stuck to these methods and was focused mainly in preparing the youth team. Mike was in charge of the senior team. Youth team finished equal first playing our philosophy/style. Q: Who sets the philosophy and how is it being met? SD: philosophy is a broad subject. Not just football played (inherited from Ange) but also engagement with fans, fellow staff, backroom practices etc. Football dept wise Ange had the right balance, Rado did too much analysis, Mike didn't use it and forced Luciano Trani to provide analysis to players without Mulveys knowledge. It's not easy but we've been active in the January window. Ultimately the youth is the best indicator at the moment. Senior team isn't there but realistically we're not far off. Q: You could have saved a lot of criticism by giving a better explanation of what you're doing while you're doing it. SD: Yeah, we dropped the ball on this. However the FFA also have a history of leaking information ahead of A-League clubs being able to provide the info to its members. Q: what's the long term goal of the club and if not please justify your position as CEO. SD: 15K members, 20K attendance, 2-3 youth players per year (few other targets as well) This is the starting point to building towards long term success. (Summarised. May have missed some points here re: long term goals) Q: Vision of the club is top 2 as stated. How are we selling this club to prospective coaches (given our position) SD: Different club structures around the world create different expectations from prospective coaches. It's about finding the right coach to fit this and that undrrstands their responsibilities, club structures and philosophies. Vidmar was offered a spot on a short list not the coaching job. He wanted to stick with Olyroos. Frans is a great example. Knows philosophy ans what is wanted to be achieved but comments on wellington game showed he's not aligned with al of the nuances of the Australian game. Preference is coach with Asian experience Q: Teams pulling out of NYL - talk from many clubs. Is it going to happen? SD: No. It makes no sense to. 12 month program allows club to rest players when necessary, not when season dictates. Q: What has the non football dept done to improve member numbers? SD: We've tried to bring a human element to our operation. Again, we've not been to the right level on this but we've got some challenges around this such as inconsistent game times, and total engagement with the Den and other fan areas (Pauls Family Area etc). We need to have more avenues to engage with more people than a limited group that the likes of post match functions may allow. More open training sessions, online chats, player autographs post match etc. KB: One Goal program is a key program that was killed and shouldn't have been. Q: 40000 on Grand Final day, 6800 on Wednesday. How are you getting the message out to theae people for rescheduled games. SD: Social Media is a great driver. Tv and radio isn't the greatest return on investment. Eg Wellington game after Asian Cup. FFA spent $75000, ticket sales $35000 KB: Wednesday was ananomoly. Combination of performance and timing. Q: Why was there no push from the club to restart game at a later time? SD: We don't air our dirty laundry in the media. To be taken seriously with the FFA we'll generally have to lodge written piece to FFA for a response. Otherwise they just don't respond to us. Q: Stadium - you can tell it's suffering from over use (concerts, other codes.) SD: Suwon game officially announced 1 hour after approval from FFA and AFC. Suwon were very cooperative. Club fought for games in Brisbane for ACL but AFC said other teams would have loat competitive advantage of Beijing to play second and third games in Brisbane. Club has decided that they have to use this situation to their advantage to engage GC community. Round of 16 onwards back in Brisbane. We know that Nov-Dec will se a full field replacement after concerts. Question is do we take regular season matches elsewhere for this period given the reward at he end of it. Where can we take them? It's a question we honestly want the input of our supporters on Q: What's the club doing to celebrate our 10 years? SD: It's on our radar but it's being worked on. Q: Perry Park is leased. What's the likelihood of it being owned by Brisbane and developed into a stadium in the future. SD: There's currently alot if people involved in PP (Strikers, BCC, etc) that have an input. It's run down currently and needs work. Easier and more coat effective to have 3 parties contribute to the improvement than to take that burden on our own shoulders alone. KB: Member satisfaction survey to be sent from independent source to help with the assessment on how the club id performing. Please complete it. http://www.reddit.com/r/Aleague/comments/30oltr/brisbane_roar_fan_forum_mulvey_philosophy_stadium/

cheers, saves me from doing it.
A lot better justification by the club in my eyes. I especially agree with the whole FFA jumping the gun, I always felt they leaked things too quickly. Probably got a wiff of it and the club had to act quickly in the mulvey sacking. I would thought they would have told him on monday morning.

I'm glad they aren't just going the 'default' route which would flout their initial plans, re: Just appointing Frans coach. That's the sad kind of outcome we have been too used to expecting in such scenarios. Similar scenario at Glory with the caretaker. Same at Heart/City when JVS was some kind of DoF then no surprise, took the reigns from John Aloisi - Caretaker then FT. We may be seeing it at Mariners too, though not to pre-empt, they seem to be going in a good direction and their current caretaker Walmsley seems more appropriate for that overarching role.

Roar_Brisbane and Roar fans, what are your thoughts on potential squad over-haul required, come new regime/off-season? I guess there's potential to come with the right new regime in-place.
This team needs to fire and be back up top again, while Broich is still quality/there, as too the current owners etc... Broich, DeVere, JCS... they have the spine of a top side, but some standard has dropped drastically elsewhere. Glory has Nichols on-loan, would you have him back? What's the feedback on Kaluderovic? Hardly a Berisha, but a step up from Kurtishi atleast? LB may require VISA quality at this rate.

Nichols is a very smart player but dosn't have the skills to match, which is why sometimes he does amazing things and other times he just a potato. I think JCS is finally getting back to when he was first at the roar. As i said in the match thread, mckay north theo and even broich needs to be replace. they are not getting younger and we need to start thinking ahead, mckay and broich got 1 or 2 years left. front 3 up for grabs and we need a left back. Also ricky will be getting older, but he could last forever with 20-30 minutes off the bench and now an aussie too. I would like to see a freshening of the team, probably another year of pain as we transition new players in. I think it would be great to see a team of pretty much all brisbane players bar the visa players.

Your new regime naturally needs a mini-razor gang, as the team clearly floundering, but needs to refresh while quality still there. If they do, then you guys are instant contenders as soon as next season, given the strong elements you already have. You flip it around and you are only 2-3 talents from being a top team again!
Like Glory and a few A-League teams, I think some of those talents need to come through the local youth, so I hope Roar, Stead and co make good on their word and the new regime carries it out. Arnie shows such faith in Gersbach to not even sign up more depth there. A new Roar coach could do similar with the likes of Brady or any others coming through. LB needs refreshing clearly and 'going local' seems a good option, especially with a VISA spot used on RB (That's what it took to replace Franjic!) and VISA places/priorities used elsewhere. Kaluderovic still an open question, re: Berisha replacement - will be interesting to see how the new regime handle he, JCS and others. Just checked and Kaluderovic should be playing for his contract (Expires end of season) - seems he's unlikely to remain at this rate, especially not with his performance tonight! Scouting for the next Berisha, for next season, should be priority #1 for the new regime.

The club has simply lost the plot, They've gone and signed Polenz (who has been below par), Devere and given Brown long term deals without a manager. Sarota & potentially Kaludervic + few squaddies will leave but its not like you'd have a lot of cap space to make significant changes. If it was up to me of our current squad I'd be going into next season with Brady,Brattan, Broich, Borrello, Clut, DeVere, Donachie, JCS, Henrique, Lambadaridis, Lustica, McKay, Theo & Theodore (wouldn't be fussed if we kept or got rid of Bowles or Hingert either) and than look to rebuild around these guys. But in reality that won't happen and we're more likely to lose Brattan, Borrello, Clut & Lustica overseas than to rebuild with them. The club is an absolute mess and they need to fix the management issues first before rebuilding the squad though.

Reasons for Roar's slump is simple. Bad preseason, poor recruitment, coach losing the plot and the replacement isn't tuned to the requirements of the HAL or ACL. Roar had problems the year before last but still pulled up brilliantly the next season which had a lot to do with the change in complacency and attitude of the players. Some of those players still exist and I have no doubt they can pull through again but with good reinforced recruitments. If Mackay is good enough for the Roos he is still good enough for the Roar. He has another couple of years in him. Andrija has to be the laziest CF I've seen and constantly goes hiding. He must go. Stef is getting too old and runs out of puff too easily. And please let's not talk about Corey "give-goals-away" Brown. Young should be disposed of immediately. Polenz is below par but I think he has a 1.5 year contract so we're stuck with him. I think Henrique's days could be numbered as a first XI starter after this injury. Jade North has had his days and should retire. Theo might have a year left in him but doubt much more. There's enough potential in Lustica, Clut, Donachie and Bowles to hang on to them. They like Hingert are acceptable squad players but not starters (keeping the costs in mind). The must stay is Broich, Devere, Mackay, Brattan and Borello. Therefore Roar need to pick up a new good keeper, CB or two, a Left and RB, a CM and two new strikers to refresh the squad. Oh yes, and a decent coach.

This season for Roar has been a clusterf..k Management have to take the blame for most of this mess. It's pretty much typical that bad management leads to bad results . After the bad start I just question as to the desire by management to win anything this year.I compare Roar to SFC.It's clear they have left no stone unturned to win. When a player recieved a long term injury.A new quality player was brought in.Yet compare that to Roar ,where Broich ,the marquee player was injured for half a season and yet no replacement came in.Same with Theo. You can then go through a raft of other decisions, from the new non coach,GC games and turning up in Korea the day before an ACL game with a tired squad and expecting to win. I just hope there are major changes all round for next season or membership numbers could drop off significantly.

The club thinks all the planets are going to automatically align for them without lifting one finger. Having said that I think it is unfair to compare Roar's situation to SFC. Arnold has most of his own players there, recruited as required and has been head coach since prior to the preseason. Frans is a newby to Oz players and Oz system and culture. He is as a temp coach and I doubt he would want to make any wholesale changes before the permanent head coach arrives. Edited by paulc: 9/4/2015 04:07:02 PM
