Matt Mackay in today's rag saying he'd prefer to win the GF.

Mate why say that? Even if he thinks it's the case why not talk up the premier's plate a bit more.

Disappointing from a captain. (IMO.)

Yeah I suppose.

Hopefully, for your sake the likes of Mckay, Broich, Henrique can lead by example. A lot of winners in your team, and some young players who haven't been exactly in this position before.

Anyway, I don't mind losing to you guys, you deserve to win a trophy this season. I just want us to be in good form for ACL and finals.

It mightn't be the "Minor Premiership", but to many it really is the minor trophy.

Personally, I think both should be of similar importance (though the Championship should still be the main one for now), but I get the sentiment, particularly since if they lose tonight they'll likely be going straight into the finals next weekend. No time to lick the wounds from losing a Plate in your hands, better to take the pressure off and talk up the prize most will be thinking of.

Will take a massive effort to get over that disappointment and challenge for the championship. Will be even more frustrating if we end up playing and beating victory's first choice team next week.

I honestly don't think we're consistent enough to win the Championship. Especially when there are teams in better form than us.

Sadly I think our chance at silverware this season just slipped through our fingers. :(

I realise we're all dissapointed but we still should be proud of the boys. One of the blokes I follow on twitter posted this at the beginning of the season and it puts how much we have accomplished in perspective:

While its all good and well to applaud what we have achieved this season due to the cluster fuck off the field, to get this far and not get anything really is gut wrenching.Still way too slow coming out from the back, way too many back passes when we should be going forward, just not good enough. We had Mckay miss a sitter in the opening minutes, Maclaren one on one, really should have scored and Henrique one on one but a hard angle.

So many variables in a game let alone a season. Well done for a great year to the team and staff.

Would be a fitting season finale at Suncorp to beat Victory next week. Then to take the Championship away from home for the first time.

Brisbane did better than many expected at the start of the season. So kudos for 3rd place.
But in all honesty you can't win just three away games and expect to win silver ware.
Adelaide after their slow start are deserved Premiers and most likely to be Champions.
How Aloisi changes the Roar squad to get improvement next season. will be tough.
Borello has not developed and what MV showed is that crowding the center of the field and forcing Roar down the flanks.Roar are not that scary with crosses from wide, because we don't have any height up front for headers.
I don't think Broich has the legs for another season, unless he becomes a super sub.

It was a fitting finale, Thomas was excellent between the sticks (again) and deserved the clean sheet although I bet he was glad he didn’t cut his finger nails before the match lol. Most likely we will see him again at Suncorp next weekend – that’s going to be interesting!

For Roar, the finals are still there and they have a good chance as injury/suspension/luck will cruel the chances of many. But looking beyond that to next season JA needs to:

– clear out his non playing visa players, Solo and Hevas must go as must Polenz even if they have to buy out his contract.

– swoop for a couple of defenders like Zullo and McGowan. The return of DeVere will be welcome but the defensive frailties of this season need fixing.

– Oars best position is left wing (although he did really well on the right last night) and that’s where he has to start next season. Broich therefore needs a new role, what is it John?

– Borrello on the right wing is an issue; if you’re dropped for the biggest game of the season somethings not right. Right Wing is where I’d like to see a new visa player used.

Other than that, the only disappointment is the fact the seasons nearly over and it’s back to the NPL for 6 months (can we please extend the HAL Mr. Gallop, an extra 2 teams really would be nice)

Well done AU :)

To be honest, the first time I thought we were a chance of the plate was when City lost to Perth last week. But given the opportunity there was no excuse in not beating a third string Victory side. Can't understand why McKay and Aloisi were talking up the performance - we only created 3 really good chances all game.

Borello has not scored as often as we'd like, but his workrate, movement and pressure are fantastic. Playing Oar instead, significantly reduced our forward pressure and movement around the box. Generally, we end up running teams ragged by the 75th minute - Victory held up well, because we didn't move them around nearly as much. In fact, I thought they were more likely to score than we were in the last 10 minutes.

Commentators had lots of love for Oar but realistically, apart from the cross to McKay, he did nothing..... and against as inexperienced a back four as you'd ever see. Can't remember him beating a single opponent one on one.

We played very tentatively in the front third - Aloisi seemed to have no tactical answer to Victory's set-up.

Agree with you on Broich... sadly.

Still think we are a chance if Wanderers slip up and we finish second and can win it with 2 wins - we have a great record in Adelaide if we have to go there for a GF. But I don't think we are consistent enough to put 3 wins together against the top 6.

I think Borello is better suited to playing 2 up front, he's not really a winger. The key to our 4-3-3 has been Broich and Borello cutting inside and allowing the fullbacks to overlap - rather than having the wingers getting to the byline.

If you're dropped for the biggest game of the season, and the team doesn't get the job done against the weakest opponent it's faced all season, and a side with nothing to play for - then I think the issue is not with Borello but with the coach. Watch the game again and see how little Oar added to the attack after the 3 minute mark.

There is no way that Aloisi and McKay should be talking up that performance.

Fine then, you can lose on pens after a scoreless draw, with LT saving 3 in the shootout.

If we get to a pen shootout against MVs first 11, it will be proof of our ineptness last night - and yes, it will add to my frustration.

And if we go another 120 minutes against MV without scoring, we don't deserve to progress. ;)

If Thomas saves 3 in the shootout, then some hype will at least be justified!

You can't get in best form coming in at the end of the season.
Oar should have stayed as a sub, coming on for a weary Broich.
Having said that his cross to McKay should have been a goal.If only McKay watched the ball.
So frustrating watching supposed top players who can't kick a ball straight at goal.
McKay and Broich.
McClaren can hit straight but still can't get that extra second of composure to watch the keeper .Last night extra composure and he chips over the keepers head.

Best case for Brisbane in the finals.

Roar vs Victory = Best home form this season, will be close but backing us to win.
Perth vs City = Perth just to good at the moment.

WSW vs Roar = Somehow get a win away.
United vs Perth= Perth win again.

Grand Final at Suncorp vs Perth
