The most consistent player and is playing good football. I'm happy about this. No exciting acquisitions on the cards though.

With the loss of clut and lustica our bench is looking very weak. Still need a lb.

There's been 5 outs, 2 ins and Ricky's still undecided. So with 2 visa players free and 1 senior spot you'd expect the bench situation to be sorted right

Pretty sure I saw somewhere that we won't be after a leftback with O'Toole and Brown. :(

Who knows hey, it wouldn't surprise me as Aloisi rates Brown and I don't think that faith is misplaced, he's good just prone to lapses in judgement and lack of confidence. They key will be where does he want to invest his two visa players? Jeff back would seem a bit of a waste to me and sign not signing Zullo it sort of says he's happy enough.

Need a quality back up to Jamie Mc as much as a LB and a replacement for an ageing midfield that's clearly running out of steam.

Wise words. All the age is in the middle third now assuming Broich will be dropping back to fit Oar in. Whoever they sign needs to be aged 25-30 with the two visa players guaranteed starters and the third signing a back up for J-Mac

Connor O'Toole recently signed with us.

Hopefully we can get rid of Polenz, surely he doesn't want to hang around for another season of sitting in the reserves.

There's a growing feeling that JA will back/stick with Brown and O'Toole (or Hingert shifting across) as back up. I don't know whether we tried and failed to get Zullo but that only reinforces the feeling.

I know it's a radical thought but I looked at Victorys formation last night which was 4-1-4-1 and it got me wondering whether Aloisi might move away from the rigid 4-3-3? He's already tweaked the playing style, he's got problems fitting Oar/Broich/Ricky in the same starting XI and defensively we seemed shambolic at times last season which was down more to lack of organisation (coaching) than individual player ability to me .. could a formation change fix the defensive frailties, accommodate MacLaren better with 4 supporting players, and allow him to use his squad better?? If he is thinking that then with only 3 players to bring in LB wouldn't be a priority?

I think the style can definitely be tweaked, doesn't even need a formation change tbh. We could (and I'm surprised JA hasn't already done this) shift our style more towards what Barcelona do. To do that though we need a genuine defensive midfielder who sits in front of the back four and can defend. Not having one is what's causing our defensive problems. Once we have that, we can play Oar and Borrello on the wings and have them spread the field with real width, which creates a lot of space in the middle of the field for Broich and Corona to play in. When teams play against us, they suffocate the middle and we just keep playing into it, then we pass to the wings, they run into a cul-de-sac, pass back to the midfielders who switch it to the other wing, rinse and repeat. We need to spread the field otherwise our midfielders have no space to play in.

The main difference this has with the Barca system is that they play with wingers who use the opposite foot to the flank they're on, so they can cut inside and enter the attack when they make it to the final third. Maybe Borrello/Henrique on the left and Oar on the right?

That's a pretty good example - I'd agree the #1 signing priority should be a solid DM, Cirona did okay but Utd not his natural position. If you add Petratos to your list, who can also play wing, we have the numbers to go that.

Yep, you can do one year of it. But when it keeps on returning it a trend and roar is in trouble. I think the signs are there during the season but the on field successes gave the cheap coat of paint that the roar was turning things around. We are going to lose all our players all the staff. What we built in the pass 5 years is going to go.

Right in the middle of the tv negotiations too, serves the buffoons at the FFA right imo. Not sure what this means though, why did the Backrie stick $4m in and then go AWOL? Maybe one of the disappointed buyers that missed the Jets will have a look?!?

FFA are about to sell the jets very soon. They will prop up the roar, 10 clubs is a must going into Tv rights negotiation. It's a shame though cause the road are a great club they deserve better. New owners are a must. Couldn't see FFA having too much trouble getting roar sold. Big market, a lot of potential and a great history. But it's all just a shame off the back of a great season.

It is a real shame - it is though now the third set of owners to exierience financial difficulties and with a home average of 14,000 at Suncorp and a zero-cost home game in cairns last season, clearly there is something causing major losses for all owners - Wanderers managed to bresk even on similar crowds and reportedly spent $750k more on their two marquees than Roar did, so what's the difference if they can break even and Roar can't?

Surely it's the stadium rental - it's the one consistent factor between Queensland clubs having financial difficulties and the other clubs. Suncorp is killing the club at the moment.

I'm sure that's part of it but until someone publishes data we won't know - I know there's 2 levies applied to every ticket sold (one is a transport levy and the other is a traffic management levy) which account for $6 on every ticket. That's naff when you first rent the stadium, then pay tax and then have to pay to get everyone in free public transport and then pay again to manage the traffic (which doesn't exist because everyone is, err on free public transport). The whole things rotten but let's face it, ten years of different politicians haven't changed anything so don't hold yours breath hey :(
