Anyone in the 30-32 range has got at least two years in them which is as long a contract as players get lately wasn't Thwaite Aloisi's target last winter but he lost him due to the Bakries transfer embargo? Given how close BR came you have to wonder what impact that decision had and the current transfer embargo will have on the coming season?

Going to be a different looking squad next season. Yup. Let's hope the Bakries or Cobb sort themselves out soon. The transfer window is open and I'm not sure roar have a plan - we've lost some key squad players this winter already.

Moore and JA must be frustrated over the current situation and if there is an embargo (again) on signing players it needs to be short lived as roar have lost many more players this winter than last year.

Sever is and injury liability. North had a great season but we really need 4th cb now donachi is gone. That is a solid signing but I can't imagine he would be cheap wage wise ?. Dm and am as well as a strike are critical signings I'd like to see the visa spots used in am and striker.

While we Roar fans try and figure out who runs/owns the club and what it will mean? The Courier Mail today quoted Cobb as saying Roars W League budget will increase from $50k last season to the maximum $150k this season.

Cobb speaks as though he already has the club in the bag. Still, to state he will use the maximum cap allowance significantly up from last season is a good sign and hopefully signals his intentions for the club.

The certainty with which he talks is, well surprising given no one officially has confirmed the sale of the club - neither the Bakries, club, FFA or even Cobb himself have officially said the deal is on. And yet Cobb talks with certainty that it's a done deal. Strange.

Courier Mail saying Roar are interested in Brett Holman, do they need another thirty-something midfielder?

He'd be a decent signing but that's the question right, in a 4-3-3 with Broich likely to be competing for a midfield slot we don't need another one, unless someone's leaving? Mckay possibly?

Not sure if Holman is really what we need. Had he been 29/30 id say go for it, but he'll be close to 33 by season kick off and with Mckay, Corona, Brioch already well into their 30's, probably a couple years too late for this signing.
He could be a great pick up for CCM, Newcastle however.

Well, he'd be playing as an AM, and we need another creative player.
He can score goals. He'll track back, he's always done that. Would still be A-League level IMO.
He is a bit old, but surely he'd be good for another 2-3 seasons.

He wouldn't be cheap considering he would appeal to a number of a league clubs. We have a couple of visa spots to fill and I'd like to see a good amount of money spent on them. TBH I'm not fussed either way, if we sign him or not.

Obviously it's hard to know what is true in media reports in the country but the tone has changed from Roar are one of several clubs chasing him to "Roar are leading the chase" which still leaves me a bit confused as to why Roar are in the race in the first place? He's a good enough player don't get me wrong but unless some one like Mckay is leaving we don't really need another midfielder.

The Roar's outstanding ability, which stood them head and shoulders above others, to shut down and move into open spaces has all but gone with the ageing players and here are some advocating more oldies lol, Really

He's also know for his defensive and off the ball work. I would fully support his signing if it eventuated.

He is a worthy player but he'll add to our progressively lethargic mobility. But where does that place us next year or the year after anyway? Brisbane Dad's Army anyone?

Brisbane had 6 players aged 25 or under vs Wanderers, Wanderers had none. Roars problem is not an aging squad it's that players are either over 30 (increasingly by some way) or under 25 and it's that 25-30 age group we're lacking. I'm not sure signing a 32 yo midfielder is a problem but at the same time Mckay, Corona and Broich will all be fighting for three slots along with Petratos.

Fair point, but I did mention somewhere else we would need to sign a younger midfielder as well if we signed him, ideally. Really wish we could get Brattsy back for a start. Maybe a midfielder from Spain? I'm sure JA has good contacts and he can't be any worse than Hervas.

Edited by Waz: 28/6/2016 03:40:09 PM What was said? Quote:f last Wednesday night's Festival of the Boot at Suncorp Stadium in Brissie taught us anything (besides that the Blues might as well chuck it in for good and take up knitting), it's that Queenslanders take their sport very seriously. So it's a brave man that dares meddle with one of their sporting codes. Step forward Daniel Cobb – businessman and sports entrepreneur extraordinaire, who has recently been anointed interim chief executive of the A-League team, Brisbane Roar. It's an appointment that has raised plenty of eyebrows in the Aussie soccer world, not least because when it comes to being involved in administration of the beautiful game, Cobb has what is referred to in sporting parlance as "form". The Melbourne-based businessman, managing director of a company called Clean Energy Enterprises, has taken the reigns at the Roar – a club that despite a large and passionate home-town fan-base and a habit of drawing the sorts of crowds that would make your average NRL official drool is in a sorry financial and administrative state. The Indonesian family that currently owns the Roar, the Bakries, recently pumped $2 million into the club to keep it operating and appointed Cobb as interim-CEO. Cobb immediately announced his plans to purchase the club from the Bakries, pending the formation of a "consortium of investors". That was three weeks ago, and to date – and with the new season looming – there's been no further news on the consortium. All of which sounds devilishly familiar to the folk at Adelaide United. Back in 2013, Cobb signed a three-year, $1.5 million sponsorship deal with the Adelaide club in a blaze of publicity. The deal was shortly afterwards terminated (with far less fanfare) after only $60,000 in sponsor payments were forthcoming. All of which is reportedly making Football Federation Australia chair Steven Lowy decidedly nervous. Burned by the ill-fated involvement in A-League clubs by Messrs Palmer and Tinkler (before he was presiding over dying political parties, Clive was at the helm of Gold Coast United when it went under while Nathan Tinkler's ownership of the Newcastle Jets ended similarly badly), the Lowys are said to be watching developments in Brisbane very carefully. Officially, the FFA is telling anyone who asks that they're keeping an "open mind" on Cobb's ability to deliver. But ask those who dealt with Cobb in Adelaide three years ago, however, and they are far less optimistic. "In some articles, he's been written up as a white knight for the Roar," said one. "If he's a white knight, this is Don Quixote."
