+x+x+x“Papua New Guinea striker Tommy Semmy will spend the week on trial at Wellington Phoenix in an attempt to earn a spot on the 23-man roster. The 24-year-old has scored 17 goals in 31 games across two seasons for ISPS Handa Premiership club Hamilton Wanderers” twitter. Oh how I bet nomates wishes Nix could afford lower English league players 👀 now that is an exciting signing we need more of these guys from oceania and asia playing Stop trying to be positive They've got a number of players from the nz domestic league trialing including foreigners. Doesn't mean they're going to sign them. But, foreigners from the NZ league that the Phoenix have picked up turned out to be some of the best players in the A-League so there's a pretty good hit rate there.

+x+x+x+x+xSo Wellington still have to meet metrics for this up coming season, gonna be hard when we are rebuilding. And there wont be any new licences handed out until the next TV deal. I just hope we don't cum last or we are out. Where did you see that? That contradicts all the news up to now. That's perfect, Canberra can replace them. Independent A-league does not start till the 2020-21 season. That's not the case from what I've seen. All I've seen is that they're still working on the details and won't announce anything until the end of the month, there will be a transition period starting now, and that the current clubs are shareholders and have no licensing restrictions anymore. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!. The Welnix owner was on Pacific Radio and was asked if anything had been sign? He said NO! nothing has been signed off on anything and wont be for sum time. So that means Nix are still under the licence agreement they signed 3 years ago. You always take every comment and spin it in the dumbest possible way.

Well, knowing how you tend to interpret things to spin as sensationally as possible forgive me if I take anything you say with a grain of salt. I googled Pacific Radio but couldn't come up with anything that looked like it. The press release announcing the independent A-League on July the 1st said that they're working through the details and the contract is due August 1st, that's what might have made you confused.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxZm5WnB0k9/Apparently Kalezic once bought a rugby jersey, threw it at Krishna and told him he was shit and should play rugby instead in front of all of his teammates. How the hell did that guy not get sacked earlier?

+x+x+x+x+xdo you blokes get big media coverage in nz? Coverage in online news sites is good, though not all stories get into print newspapers. On TV news often the 'Nix might not get or very little mention, though TBF I don't watch broadcast TV much anymore so not sure about this season. The league as a whole doesn't get much coverage, compare that with NRL where non Warriors games will get coverage across all media platforms non 'Nix games will rarely get coverage (except for online), unless there was something very much out of the ordinary that would warrant mention. A big problem in recent years has been that a lot of coverage has been negative regarding the license of the club - so people not closely following the club will get negative impressions. so what is the second popular sport there after NRL? NRL is not the most popular sport. Rugby > daylight > night time > daylight > other sports. Football gets coverage but its not the HAL, its EPL. In terms of participation, football (incl. futsal/indoor etc.) is generally the most popular organised team sport/activity. geez so you are just like sydney/brisbane amazing how cities can only get behind one sport To be fair the all blacks are the most dominant team in international sport and have been for a century and New Zealand also has two of the top club competitions in world rugby whereas the all whites and a league are not that.

+xI’m intrigued why they’re using YouTube though, it’s so “last century”. Do they also use Facebook, Twitter and Insta which is what most other clubs seem to use? Yeah, when we first joined the HAL the Phoenix had the highest likes on Facebook across the HAL for some time, IIRC even more than the FFA and/or HAL official page - obviously now overtaken by teams from larger population bases. 110k likes currently. 41.5k follows on Twitter. Probably on Instagram, with 17.9k follows, they are a under performing relative to HAL, not sure if this is due to social media habits across NZ as a whole or with supporters of the Phoenix.

I've been really impressed with our YouTube presence this season; press conferences, interviews with players etc. Before it started, I actually forgot I had subscribed to them a few years back!!

+xThis thread moves so slowly my comment's still here! And hopefully the Nix are gone next season but I don't hold out much hope since Rob Morrison's on the new committee. Wellington has the support of other clubs regardless of Morrison's involvement. Look forward to seeing them prosper in an independent league that doesn't threaten to kick them out every couple of years.

And hopefully the Nix are gone next season but I don't hold out much hope since Rob Morrison's on the new committee. but if they go we are back to ten teams and expansion of the league would be useless I don't care for New Zealand football nor do I care about New Zealand football fans. Regarding the new period of expansion and move to pro/rel - you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs. I do have faith that the A-League and the top flight, and whatever form it takes in the future, will survive booting the Nix out. It moves slowly because a few no life's ambush any Phoenix discussions. It's not worth the effort. Fans are very active on other platforms.
