33 and Serie B , maybe has a year of two left in the legs at this level, but exactly why is possibly being offered Marquee status? And what message does that send to Joel..?

if con is smart he will do every thing in his power to the keep joel griffiths i say if joel want a 5 year contract give it to him,he is a cult hero in these parts, 95% of jets jerseys have J.GRIFFITHS, hopefully they sort out his contract soon and i am looking foward to seeing what signatures we will get after GVE 's trip to europe.

They have to tie up Joel, he is a drawcard for other players much greater than lifestyle as Con keeps going on about. If he wants 5 years as Marquee, give it to him. It will free up his wages for some other quality players as well.

Joel is already locked up for this season on 180 - 200k, so they have the option to find someone else as marquee to throw money at. There is no point paying someone more than Joel inside the cap, when they can just have him for one more year anyway... And while this guy is old, scoring goals in the Serie B is still better credentials than the A-League.

i think they need to let joel know they are serious about keeping him in newcastle for the next 5 years like he wants.

I think Serie B is a good place to find players. They have experience and are still playing in good quality competition. But i would rather his former team-mate Adailton. Look up his Adailton on Youtube and you'll see why. I think the best places though to get players are Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Japan and Korea (steal Japan and Korea's brazilians).
