It's not getting sidetracked. I think a huge problem with the fear spreading regarding Asylum Seekers is a direct inability to relate to the horrific situations that they are subjected to.

What specific horrific conditions are these????

no, i was just qualifying if you meant here or abroad......they have escaped from that risk, travelled through several countries before they then purchase passage to australia........

and the behaviour is unacceptable, they think be doing this they will improve their chances???? if it were me i would be on best behaviour to improve my chances........and if they have fled the chance of death or harm, surely a detention centre with food,a roof over there head is better than the situation they were in??????

You cant blame people for cracking it when they are locked up as criminals after fleeing warzones...id also be pretty pissed off if id sold everything i owned to get out of the country...spend days on a leaky boat, because i lacked the money to buy a plane ticket, only to be locked up for months upon arrival when asylum seekers who are lucky enoigh to afford a plane ticket are processed in the community because the community has some massive paranoia about boats when they make up only 2% of our refugee intake

plane ticket????? you have to have a visa first , so no one is coming via plane tickets....also they have fled the war zone and are in other countries BEFORE they decide to approach people trafficers and buy a passage......


don't get me wrong, i have no problem with Australia meeting its humanitarian obligations to house refugee's and asylum seekers, but it needs to be done properly and they need to go through the right channels, we can't just have any body rocking up in the fashion that they are......via death boats....for all i care go over there and process them before they leave, once they pass the criteria and are legitimate bring them in, make them work there way into paying their way and train them to fit into our way of life.....

you can't tell me all these boat arrivals are legitimate, they are que jumpers, forcing our hand.....

There's a refugee advocate who was a boat refugee herself (I can't remember her name, but she's a strikingly beautiful Afghani woman) who had a brilliant analogy on this. Something like If you were in a burning building and there were a bunch of people blocking the doorway, wouldn't you jump out the window to survive?

I am all for tracking down and removing the real illegal immigrant, such as the New Zealand, American, British & Irish VISA overstayers.

well there is a que...unfortunately..... and lets face it the war in Iraq and Afghanistam is 10 years old.......so its hardly true that these people are escaping a war zone......maybe we should be accepting refugee's from syria in the last 3 months???????

theres several ques...but if your refering to asylum seekers "skipping" the UN resettlement process then thats just stupid, id definately rather get on a boat or a plane rather than waiting for up to 10 years in an overflowing UN camp, many of which come under frequent attack.
