I'm not the biggest fan of it. Why would you allow a "conscience vote" on the rights of others? life isn't black and white, some people may only object to "gay marriage" due to their religious beliefs.....and you talk of the rights of others but ignore the rights of those who may object to it........ Just to make things clear i'm not on a hardline stance, I could be swayed but it's not really my cup of tea. Would you be able to surmise your objections for me? It's not my type of thing. I could be swayed but if this was accepted I wouldn't be out on the streets shouting it down, I'd respect the decision. I don't think it's the time to do this their are more pressing matters on hand.

Noto - you start to win me over when you roll out your well researched arguments on many topics, but then you loose me all over again when you go back to your default setting of criticising the intelligence of those who happen to have alternative opinions.
Abbott is doing what an opposition leader does, what ALL opposition leaders do, and that's oppose and offer an alternative Government, which is what Abbott is doing. Labor do exactly the same thing when they are in opposition mate, here in Qld the pathetic Labor opposition is today criticising the Newman Government because of which offices they are using in Parliament house! I mean at least Abbott's criticisms are based on policies...

Funny thing is, you criticise batfink for talking about Class Warfare, which regardless of what you say Gillard is absolutely doing this with lines such as "The Labor party looks after battlers while the opposition looks after their Billionaire mates!", but you allege batfink is only saying this because Abbott used it in his budget reply, but aren't you then guilty of doing the exact same thing when you talk about how negative Abbott is given that that is the exact same argument Gillard has been sprouting for over 12 months now?

I'm not sure why that would be a barrier to supporting marriage equality, though, or allowing for intolerance based in religious interpretation in a secular society.

So, I'm attacked for quoting someone saying that politicians pander to the uneducated whilst batfink parrots the hyperbole of Abbott and calls anyone that disagrees an "overeducated fuckwit".
And you wonder why I get a bit tetchy sometimes.
Still, what you think of my posting style is completely irrelevant to the topics at hand RJL. I don't care whether you agree with me or not and I don't care whether you agree with the way that I express myself. It's a thread about politics and that's what I'm here to discuss.

It is a very personal matter and I don't think someones beliefs should be splashed out across the media like this.

Edited by notorganic: 23/5/2012 02:05:40 PM Don't get all sooky mate, I was simply pointing out that you can't criticise someone on one hand, then do exactly the same thing in the next sentence. I was also pointing out that everyone was getting tired of your continual questioning of the intellegence of those with opposing views to your own. You and I don't really get along barring small outbreaks of agreement and humor, but one thing I do respect you for is your passion and willingness to back up your arguments with facts, I just wish you would stick with them is all I'm trying to say.

I have no problem with homosexuals and would have no problem if they have the same rights as a married couple.

If they have the same rights (and presumably access to the same ceremonies that marriage entails), why does it matter if they call themselves married or not? Shouldn't they have the right to choose as a personal matter?

We could talk about Special Religious Instruction in public schools instead if you wish. I'm currently taking part in a Parents Victoria online conference on the very subject.

What could be better than getting a head start on ensuring that the public school experience is based on tolerance, morality and inclusion (upon other secular values) for my child?

With the way that politics drags, I'd say I'm probably a little bit late to the party as it is.

Gutter journalism. Lets pay a prostitute 60K to identify someone. Instead of paying for news stories why can't they attempt to do some investigating and found some video footage.

The SMH today report ACA didn't pay her anything, and offered to show Thomson what they had first and he refused. It is still gutter journalism if it's true?
