Quote: .. .News Labor can win under Gillard, says Rudd by: Phillip Hudson From: News Limited Network September 12, 2012 7:56PM KEVIN Rudd has conceded that Labor can win the next election "under Prime Minister Gillard's leadership''. And the former prime minister - who abolished the Pacific Solution - says he supports the government's recent change to re-open detention centres in Nauru and Manus Island. In an interview with the ABC's 7.30 program from China where he is attending the World Economic Forum, Mr Rudd said he had a responsibility to argue the case against Tony Abbott and "my voice won't be silenced''. Julia Gillard's supporters believe Mr Rudd has been contemplating a return to the leadership despite being thrashed in a leadership ballot in February and have been spooked by his recent public appearances. Mr Rudd said like other Labor MPs he had a job to argue the case against Mr Abbott becoming prime minister. Recent cuts by state governments - such as Campbell Newman taking a "meat axe'' to public service jobs in Queensland and TAFE cuts by Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu - were just the entree for the "main course'' that Mr Abbott would deliver, Mr Rudd said. "Of course the government can prevail against Mr Abbott at the next election,'' he said. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/labor-can-win-under-gillard-says-rudd/story-e6freuy9-1226472923151

It went something like this as I heard it on 2GB Chris Smith program: Journo: Can Julia lead government win the next election? KR: Labour can win the next election Journo: Can Julia lead government win the next election? KR: Labour can win the next election with this PM Journo: Can Julia lead government win the next election? KR: Labour can win the next election with Gillard. So Joffa please remove “Labour can win under Gillard “insulting headline from Australian Politics thread, KR did not say it, this was forced out of him. KR is planning a comeback, he can not stand JG as prime minister, and Labour has no chance of wining the next election, the only hope KR has, minimise the carnage. I would like to start a petition charity fund where people can donate $1 for every time KR says Julia between now and the next election. I do not think he has ever said “Julia” again since she stabbed him in the back.

Quote:Abbott softens 'dirt unit' claim DateSeptember 15, 2012 Tony Abbott, after suggesting Labor's ''dirt unit'' was behind the story about his alleged intimidatory behaviour towards a woman who beat him in a student election, has conceded the author heard about the anecdote from other sources. And both the woman, Barbara Ramjan, who made the claim, and a barrister who backed her up have denied any contact with Labor in the run up to the publication of the story. Mr Abbott yesterday broke a week-long public silence to declare that ''the Labor Party is running a serious campaign'' in relation to the story, reported by David Marr in his Quarterly Essay on Mr Abbott. Marr quoted Ms Ramjan, who defeated Mr Abbott for Sydney University SRC president in 1977, saying he came within an inch of her nose ''and punched the wall on either side of my head''. He said the dirt unit was running out of the Prime Minister's office ''and it's being encouraged to dig up embarrassing facts or factoids or stories on the Coalition.'' Mr Abbott, who had at first said he could not recall such an incident, yesterday repeated the subsequent explanation he gave, ''it never happened''. Quarterly Essay said that the idea Marr was connected with any Labor dirt unit ''is completely implausible. This is a clear case of trying to shoot the messenger''. This statement prompted Mr Abbott to contact Marr. ''He said he wanted to make it clear that he wasn't accusing me of getting a story from a Labor dirt unit,'' Marr said last night. Marr said that he first heard of the incident earlier this year when he attended the 40th anniversary of his law school graduation class. Mr Abbott said that Ms Ramjan had previously been critical of him, ''but she's never chosen to raise this allegation until just a few days ago.'' Sydney barrister David Patch, who was Ms Ramjan's campaign manager and said she had told him of the incident immediately afterwards, said: ''The implication by Mr Abbott that I am associated with a Labor party dirt unit is a baseless smear''. Mr Patch, a Labor candidate in 2004, denied he had had any contact with anybody in or associated with the ALP, the Prime Minister's office or anyone else in federal or state parliament. He wanted to correct the record because he believed Mr Abbott was treating Ms Ramjan unfairly. Ms Ramjan, who is not a member of any party, said Marr had contacted her. She had had no contact with the Labor Party about the matter. Read more: http://www.canberratimes.com.au/national/abbott-softens-dirt-unit-claim-20120914-25y7a.html#ixzz26S41Dlwj

Err, it might pay for Abbott not to cry too loudly about dirt units, someone might remind the Australian People what Christopher Pyne did to Peter Slipper.

We should create a fourfourtwo polical party, I'm sure we could round up 550 members to become a party. Fuck I'd vote for us.
We would just have to develop policies and vote on them.

Quote:'Even Clive Palmer is having doubts': Gillard blasts Newman government September 16, 2012 - 11:32AM The Prime Minister has used her first speech since her father died to warn the nation it only has to look to Campbell Newman's LNP to know what a Tony Abbott-led government would be like. Speaking at the Queensland Labor Party Conference at Brisbane's Mercure Hotel today, Julia Gillard labelled the human cost of last week's Queensland budget "dreadful", and said Queenslanders –deserved better than Premier Newman. You know the ship is going down pretty fast when the bloke who wants to resurrect the Titanic is seen leaving it "Even Clive Palmer is having doubts," she said. "You know the ship is going down pretty fast when the bloke who wants to resurrect the Titanic is seen leaving it." She said Mr Newman's approach to cost and job cutting would be repeated by a Liberal federal government, which would also use a commission of audit as an excuse to make cuts. During her speech Ms Gillard touched on Labor's work to introduce a National Disability Insurance Scheme, and reform education using recommendations from the Gonski review. "The life changing unfairness of being robbed of a great education has always struck me as a moral wrong," she said. Ms Gillard said her education had always made her feel like a "lucky one". "If you give one child a better education you can change their life," she said. "If you give all children a better education you change the nation and the future." Ms Gillard said she would refuse to let Mr Newman draw a "Brisbane line" through the NDIS. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to her father, John Gillard," who died last weekend while she was overseas and thanked the "Labor family" for their sympathy and condolences. "He believed in Labor, he believed in me and he believed in you," she said. "Your recognition of his passing had been heart warming." Ms Gillard was introduced by her treasurer and Queensland MP Wayne Swan who jokingly referred to as "The Boss, the actual Boss". "She is the strongest, toughest warrior this party has ever produced," he said. "...(she has weathered attacks from) the grubs and freak shows associated with the Liberal party. "She has been magnificent in the face of adversity." I got a $70 fine for not voting in an election that I haven't been registered for in over 18 months. Now I have to go to court to contest it. Fuck.

Lol on the 442 party, we can't agree on what colour shit is!
Libs need to change leader, whether it's been a character assassination by Labor or not, doesn't really matter, fact is that Abbott's becoming increasingly un-electable.
This really should be an un-winnable election for Labor, but it's increasingly becoming winnable due to Abbott's personal popularity being stuck in negative territory.
I don't like Turbull personally, but I now see that he is the Libs best hope now.
I have no real problem with Gillard, it's her party, their politics is just so damn cynical, throwing away close to a million dollars on a jobs expo for sacked public servants in Brisbane, even though the sackings are state wide! Add to that the fact that there was no jobs expo for the 3,000 treasuring staff sacked by Federal Labor! So transparent, nothing more then a stunt, a million dollar stunt, a joke.

Abbott's lowest cumulative approval rating was -19 (approval less disapproval) Turnbull's lowest when opposition leader was -25 Its easy to be more popular when you are out of the 24 hour news cycle. That said, if Abbott loses the next election, he'll be ditched for Turnbull. Somehow I think Turnbull is too intelligent a leader for liberal voters to appreciate.

Quote:Tony Abbott says Julia Gillard should be in Indonesia to tackle asylum seeker influx rather in New York by: Phillip Hudson From: Herald Sun September 24, 2012 7:38PM TONY Abbott has come under fire after making a foreign policy blunder when he said Julia Gillard should not be attending the United Nations leaders meeting in New York, but should instead be in Jakarta talking to Indonesia's leaders to stop asylum seeker boats. But Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is also in New York and is attending at least one event with the Prime Minister. Mr Abbott's gaffe came as he ridiculed Ms Gillard for meeting African leaders to try and win votes for a seat on the UN Security Council. "She should be in Jakarta not in New York because that is where Australia's national interest is most at stake right now," Mr Abbott said. "Rather than talking to African countries trying to drum up the numbers to get us a temporary seat on the UN Security Council, she should be in Jakarta talking to President Yudhoyono about how we can co-operate better with the Indonesians to stop this flow, which is putting our border protection hopelessly under the pump." . Treasurer Wayne Swan called on Mr Abbott to apologise. "This is yet another example of reckless negativity from the Leader of the Opposition in complete defiance of the facts," Mr Swan said. The Treasurer said Mr Abbott "did not have the courage" when he met with Dr Yudhoyono recently to even raise his policy to tow back asylum seeker boats. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/tony-abbott-says-julia-gillard-should-be-in-indonesia-to-tackle-asylum-seeker-influx-rather-in-new-york/story-e6frf7kx-1226480539954

Stupid gaff, but the underlying premise is correct though, the focus of our foreign policy at the moment should be on the asylum seeker issue, not a seat on the security council which is really just a dick measuring exercise more then anything else.
In that respect, Abbott is actually correct, but by getting the semantics wrong he has made himself look dumb, which seems to be a Tony specialty lately.

He's correct that Gillard should be in Jakarta instead of New York to be meeting with someone that is in New York rather than Jakarta to discuss an issue that they are already discissing?
Right, then.
