Austerity is the order of the day in Europe, but Professor Mark Blyth argues that austerity is a very dangerous idea and does not work. While it makes sense for any one state to try and cut its way to growth, it simply cannot work when all states try it simultaneously: all we do is shrink the economy.

Good article that i think is worth the read. The murdoch press...particularly The Australian news paper..are the worst at seemingly wanting to only employ people to write for the paper who posses a similar centre-right view.

So I think a good thing to discuss is, ignoring whether you agree with the policy or not, if Rudd's 'boat people' solution is going to gain or lose him votes.

It doesn't matter if he loses votes from people shifting further left to the Greens. They'll preference Labor before Liberals, so apart from the handful of places where the Greens can win a HOR seat (and even then, the Greens will never ever ever put Abbott into the Lodge), he could care less about left wingers shifting from Labor to Greens.

His boat people policy is to 1) Neutralise it as an election issue 2) Help win voters off the Liberal party.

Id imagine that the more right wing people the policy is aimed at are probably too right wing to vote Labor anyway where as many Labor or left wing voters would feel a bit deserted by Labor and rather vote Greens. So overall it would do more harm than good.

I know theres a fair few on here that would normally vote Labor so how has it affected who you plan to vote for?

to be honest i think it will win him votes.....it's a lose lose policy for the country and the Asylum seekers...................

Thats a fair point. My only problem with that is Rudd would hate to have to rely on Greens for power. He'll know how the Greens fucked Gillard. He'll probably have a better understanding than most of the concessions Labor have had to make to get Greens support. He definitely wont want to govern like that.

sorry to be a party pooper....he has had his chance and fucked it up so bad that his own party kicked him out and replaced him....then here he is second time around and doing just as bad a job......when will sanity prevail and people wake up the the complete joke that is the ALP ..........

Someone who votes for Labor or Liberals party as #1 won't matter what their preferences are (except for the few seats Greens could win).

That front page is a joke, right? There's no way they're legitimately running that. Like, not even party-owned newspapers in other countries would be that bold/aggressive.

ok, so here's a couple of mind blowing concepts for you:
1) I never denied the event of a recession. It's a part of the natural ebb and flow of the global econony. An economic genius such as yourself would be well aware of that. Y'know, instead of portraying it like some kind of fiscal domesday
2) You can survive a recession and have a conparatively strong and functional economy.
3) Just because our economy has its pitfalls and struggles neither means it's doomed nor that we aren't in a strong position in relation to other economies.

revolutionary concepts, I know. But I have faith you'll be able to get your head around them.

If Turnbull replaces Abbot, I'd be inclined to vote for them. Until then, I'd still vote Labor.

I've seen enough from Turnbull over the past year to make the conclusion that I wouldn't vote Lib even if he was the leader.

Matt do you think that is because Turnbull is gagged and doesn't agree with Abbott on many policy items......????? I do, i think you would see a very Different Turnbull if he was Party leader, possibly he is waiting for that to occur before showing his hand and being seen as a de satbilising element??

So I think a good thing to discuss is, ignoring whether you agree with the policy or not, if Rudd's 'boat people' solution is going to gain or lose him votes.

It doesn't matter if he loses votes from people shifting further left to the Greens. They'll preference Labor before Liberals, so apart from the handful of places where the Greens can win a HOR seat (and even then, the Greens will never ever ever put Abbott into the Lodge), he could care less about left wingers shifting from Labor to Greens.

His boat people policy is to 1) Neutralise it as an election issue 2) Help win voters off the Liberal party.

didn't labor decide to put the greens last on preferences????

yes...fair call

Someone who votes for Labor or Liberals party as #1 won't matter what their preferences are (except for the few seats Greens could win).

That front page is a joke, right? There's no way they're legitimately running that. Like, not even party-owned newspapers in other countries would be that bold/aggressive.

How's that alzheimers working out for you buddy?

no alzheimers buddy.......you made a statement......so which recession the one in the 90's or the one we have been in but due to a two speed economy technically the government can state that we are not in recession??????

Yeah, which recession am I talking about? The one we just had which we've been talking about for the last 20 pages, or the one in the 90's, or the one in the 80's, or the one in the 70's, or the Great Depression? Which one do you fucking think you fucking dunce?

well it's strange that now you admit that we had a recession......for the past 20 pages you have been telling us how fucking amazing our economy is....and what a great job the fucken dunces who are currently trying the Govern this country are doing.......

you aren't bi-polar or schizophrenic are you????? better ease up on the cones paranoia is setting in..!!

ok, so here's a couple of mind blowing concepts for you:
1) I never denied the event of a recession. It's a part of the natural ebb and flow of the global econony. An economic genius such as yourself would be well aware of that. Y'know, instead of portraying it like some kind of fiscal domesday
2) You can survive a recession and have a conparatively strong and functional economy.
3) Just because our economy has its pitfalls and struggles neither means it's doomed nor that we aren't in a strong position in relation to other economies.

revolutionary concepts, I know. But I have faith you'll be able to get your head around them.

humble reply........;) ;) thanks for your support...
