Newcastle fans have pledged more than £50m to buy out owner Mike Ashley and take control of the club. The scheme is fronted by the Newcastle United Supporters Trust. (The Mirror)

Not exactly going to cut it then. Ashley wouldn't sell for less than £100m when the club were stuck in the CCC with no certainty about the future - now they are 5 points clear at the top of the CCC with a game in hand, and safe in the play-offs by 16 points, heading back to the big money of the EPL, there isn't a chance of him selling up for less than £150m now.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is considering re-signing Sol Campbell - it would be the first time Wenger has re-signed a player for the Gunners.
Full story: Daily Mirror  Oh yeah, thats that quality defensive signing you were looking for, Right SC58? :P

However, despite having a transfer budget of about £35m, Wenger insists he does not need to buy a striker as Nicklas Bendtner is set to resume full training next week.

Ok. I said Arsenal need a decent back-up CB and Sol Campbell provides that. He adds depth at the back plus he's free.

Also how does it get worse and worse for Arsenal we are 4 points off the top with a game in hand. As far as I can tell since the Chelsea loss it has just got better and better and better.

Im referring to the fact that:

1. Your signing Sol Campbell - very risky signing to say the least. 36 years old, hasnt played competitve football in months.... jussaying.

2. Your not going to sign another striker because Bendtner is coming back. Arsene thinks you dont need anybody new up front. You were craving for 1 quality signing up front and a few decent ones - looks like you wont get it.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Manchester United full-back Danny Simpson.

The deal for Simpson looked to be floundering, but skysports.com exclusively revealed on Tuesday evening that the two teams had agreed terms.

Now Newcastle have finalised the deal for the 23-year-old, who has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal at St James' Park.

"We're delighted to complete a permanent deal for Danny," said Newcastle chief Chris Hughton.

"He's a player who has been with us since the summer and has played a key role during the first half of the season.

"Danny is a very popular lad in the dressing room and he took no time at all to settle in.

"He was always a player we wanted to keep at the club and he was very keen to stay given how much he's enjoyed his time here."

From correspondents in London, England
January 22, 2010

Sunderland have signed Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon for an undisclosed fee as the Black Cats looked to consolidate their Barclays Premier League mid-table position.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal.

"Matthew is a very talented defender and has been coveted by a number of top-flight clubs recently, so I'm very pleased to have brought him here," Sunderland boss Steve Bruce told the club's official website.

SENDEROS COMPLETES EVERTON MOVE

New Everton loan signing Philippe Senderos knows he has a challenge to break into the side but believes he can fulfil his "high hopes".

The 24-year-old agreed a temporary move from Arsenal at the weekend and the paperwork has been formally completed on Monday afternoon.

"I am delighted to be an Everton player for the remainder of the season," said the Swiss international.

"I can't wait to get stuck in and play for Everton. Hopefully I can get some first-team football in during my time here.

"I am here with high hopes and hopefully I can fulfil them."

Senderos spent last season on loan at AC Milan, for whom he made 15 appearances.

He arrives at Everton just as their injury crisis appears to be easing, with the club on a seven-match unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League.

"I have spoken to David Moyes and he hopes to give me opportunities here," he told evertonTV.

"Hopefully I can grab that opportunity and stay in the team.

"Everton's form over the last few weeks has been better and they are getting stronger."

You never know, mate - 4 months at Everton might do him the world of good. He's still young, plenty of time to come right. If you look at the way Fellaini has come along this season - from a bit of a joke last year to a fantastic midfielder this season... If Moyes can spark Senderos up like that your lot could get a big bonus.

Honestly at this point in time I don't put him ahead of Silvestre, Djourou or Campbell at CB.

He's slow and can't handle physical strikers like Drogba(then again none of our CBs seem to be able to:lol: )

I rate Campbell ahead of him because Campbell is still quick enough and has a more physical side to his game. That's how lowly I rate him  I'd even put Alex Song at CB before Senderos.

He's got no future at the club TBH. In 2 seasons or so our starting CB pairing will be Djourou and Vermaelen and can't see Senderos displacing either two.

Also Benj remember he spent last season on loan at AC Milan.A better team then Everton and played quite a bit and still couldn't break into the team. Also at Everton once They have Jagielka, Distin and Yobo all fit he won't even break into their team. He's just their to cover for the loss of Neill.

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Confirms Jack Wilshere Will Soon Be Loaned Out

Young midfielder's temporary departure a certainty...

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has definite plans to allow highly-rated youngster Jack Wilshere to leave the Emirates on loan this month.

Wenger has previously stated that he is keen for the 18-year-old to gain experience elsewhere and it appears that he is keen to conclude a deal before the end of the transfer window.

"I will let him go out on loan without any doubt," the Frenchman told the Gunners' official website.

"I want him to go to the right club and play."

Bolton Wanderers are believed to be keen on signing Wilshere, but Burnley, West Ham United and Dutch outfit FC Twente, managed by Steve McClaren, have also been linked with the midfielder.

Meanwhile, Gunners stars Andrey Arshavin and Cesc Fabregas have been nominated for the PFA Fans' Player of the Month award.

Both players have been in superb form in January, with Fabregas netting two goals in three games and Arshavin one in four.

Turks target Giovani loan

Sky Sports News understands Tottenham winger Giovani dos Santos is set to join Galatasaray.

The Turkish giants have lined up a loan deal for Giovani, who has struggled to establish himself at White Hart Lane since arriving from Barcelona in the summer of 2008.

The Mexican international enjoyed a loan spell at Ipswich last season and Tottenham are ready to loan him out again.

The 20-year-old has made only three appearances for Spurs this season and he is keen on a move away in search of regular first-team football ahead of this summer's World Cup finals.

Galatasaray are believed to have the option to make Giovani's move permanent if he impresses during his loan spell in Turkey.

SMALLING AGREES UNITED SWITCH

Manchester United have swooped to sign defender Chris Smalling from Fulham.

The deal will see Smalling join the Old Trafford outfit in the summer and completes an astounding rise to prominence for a player who was in the non-league ranks with Maidstone two years ago.

Smalling has caught the eye with some excellent performances in the Cottagers' Europa League campaign this season and despite making only nine first-team appearances, Sir Alex Ferguson views the 20-year-old Londoner as having the talent to make a big impact on the game.

United are refusing to state how long Smalling, who will complete the remainder of the season at Fulham, has signed his contract for.

However, it represents a moral victory for Ferguson, who lost out to Arsenal after having a fee agreed with Cardiff for Wales star Aaron Ramsey in 2008.

This time it is Arsene Wenger losing out, after claiming earlier today he was still interested in signing the Greenwich-born player.

"It just looks like Manchester United offered more money than us," said Wenger. "As long as the player has not signed anywhere, it is not the end of it. Let's see what happens there."

GARDNER COMPLETES BLUES MOVE

Birmingham have completed the £3m signing of midfielder Craig Gardner from local rivals Aston Villa.

The former England Under-21 international makes the switch across the city after 79 appearances for Villa and has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract.

He had found first-team opportunities limited under Martin O'Neill this season and becomes Alex McLeish's second signing of the current transfer window following former Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admits he is also targeting a striker and wide midfield player before the transfer window closes.

McLeish, whose side will be defending a 15-game unbeaten run at Stamford Bridge, has also signed Sporting Gijon playmaker Michel.

But the former Scotland coach wants to spend a further slice of owner Carson Yeung's money to help City sustain their flying start to the campaign.

He is interested in signing Spurs striker Roman Pavlyuchenko while Liverpool forward Ryan Babel is still on his radar.

McLeish said: "Are any other deals close to being completed? There is nothing close but we are trying a couple of things.

"If and when the Craig Gardner move goes through, we will have spent a good part of £3 million, a long way short of the £20-40 million that was bandied about (by Yeung).

"I have no intention of spending that amount with the way this team has played.

"But I still believe we have to spend some more money to bring in a striker and a wide man for more cover in the squad before the window closes."

McLeish will be delighted to finally acquire the services of Gardner who has become frustrated at a lack of first team opportunities at Villa this season.

He said: "I am building a squad. We have to have a squad of players and it is about enhancing the quality as you go along - and Craig Gardner will enhance the quality of the squad.

"From two years ago to now, this is a major signing for us because we wouldn't have been able to do this two seasons ago.

"We will be adding a player who is dynamic, can play in a couple of positions and is bursting to play for Birmingham and is another great character to go into our dressing room."

West Ham appear to have beaten Tottenham to the signature of Barcelona star Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Tottenham have shown an interest in bringing in Gudjohnsen on loan for the rest of the season, but Spurs boss Harry Redknapp believes West Ham have beaten them to the former Barcelona and Chelsea forward's signature.

Redknapp expects Gudjohnsen to join West Ham but confirmed they had made an inquiry about taking him on loan for the rest of the season, with his parent club Monaco paying the bulk of the wages.

"I spoke to his agent, he said he was going to West Ham, so I left it with the agent," Redknapp said after the Barclays Premier League win over Fulham.

"I would take him on a loan. He would be good loan signing playing in different systems.

"He's a good footballer and an interesting player on a loan but I think he's gone to West Ham."

Gudjohnsen was believed to have undergone a medical at Upton Park on Tuesday evening with a a deal likely to be sealed in the next 24 hours.

Good singing if they have pulled it off. Would bolster their front line greatly.
