Quote: Kuyt - I want to stay at Reds Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has handed new manager Roy Hodgson a boost by confirming his desire to remain at the club. Kuyt is currently on duty with the Netherlands in South Africa preparing for the World Cup final but had earlier stated he would consider his future at Anfield. The managerial uncertainty has since been put to a close, however, and Hodgson's appointment from Fulham appears to have steadied the nerves of the club's star names - who were thought to be heading for the exit. And Kuyt says he will hold talks with the new boss to discuss their plans for next season, giving the 62-year-old a lift as he looks to mould his team for the new campaign. "Of course I want to stay," said Kuyt."Liverpool is a great club with a great history. "Unfortunately in my four years I haven't won anything but hopefully in the future, I will still have that chance. "We will have to see what happens but hopefully the manager wants me to stay. "I spoke to people at the club and I know he wants to speak with me. But it is very difficult at the moment because we are so busy and focus on what lies ahead." Holland's exploits have been in stark contrast to Liverpool's this season, with Kuyt helping his team to the cusp of glory in Sunday's final. Only Spain stand in the way of Oranje winning their first ever World Cup and Kuyt is relieved to be ending the season on a high after a turbulent campaign on Merseyside. The Reds finished last season in seventh-place, which saw them miss out on Champions League football and added to off-the-field disturbances surrounding the troubled club. Kuyt says winning the crown would be an ideal antidote to a trophy-less season at Liverpool - revealing his satisfaction at earning his place in Bert van Marwijk's side. The 29-year-old added: "It is really satisfying to end the season like this. It has been a long and hard season at Liverpool. "Mentally it has been tough. You play for a club like that to win trophies and it did not happen. "Thankfully, the Dutch manager gave me a week off after I had finished with Liverpool so I could focus on this tournament. "That was good for me. Afterwards I trained hard. I fought for my place in the team. I am enjoying myself now and here we are in the final." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6253112,00.html

Quote: Gunners eye Handanovic Skysports.com understands Arsenal are ready to turn their attentions to Slovenia star Samir Handanovic as they look to bring in a new goalkeeper. Wenger has made recruiting a shot-stopper one of his top priorities this summer as he looks to solve the somewhat problematic position at the Emirates. The Gunners have been linked with a host of keepers and it appears Udinese custodian Handanovic is at the top of Wenger's wanted list after impressing the Frenchman at the World Cup, especially in the narrow defeat to England. Handanovic is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe having impressed for club and country in recent years. Arsenal have seen a bid for Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer rejected and the Gunners could now switch their focus to Handanovic as an alternative, with the player seen as a long-term option for the club as he is only 25-years-old. Udinese are reluctant to lose Handanovic, but they would find it hard to turn down a sizeable offer for the player. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6253309,00.html

Quote: Manchester City Target David Luiz Only Interested In Move To Real Madrid Or Manchester United Big money Manchester City target David Luiz will reportedly only consider leaving Portuguese champions Benfica if European giants Manchester United or Real Madrid come knocking. Luiz, 23, has emerged as a target for the big-spending Blues, although they have hit an impasse over his transfer fee as they refuse to meet the Portuguese side's £29.3 million valuation. With the Brazil youth international comfortable at left or centre-back, his arrival would significantly boost Roberto Mancini's squad if a deal could be forced through. According to O Jogo, though, City's pursuit is in vain. The player has set his heart on a switch to los Blancos or the Red Devils and would, for this summer at least, turn down any move to Eastlands as he awaits moves from higher up the food chain. Benfica will be playing in the Champions League next season and have already lost star winger Angel di Maria to Madrid in a deal worth around £25 million. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/69/transfer-zone/2010/07/09/2017729/report-manchester-city-target-david-luiz-only-interested-in-move- £29.3 million seems a bit steep tbh.

Quote:Kjaer to WolfsburgWolfsburg have completed the signing of highly-rated Denmark central defender Simon Kjaer on a four-year contract. The 2009 Bundesliga champions are thought to have beaten a host of European clubs to the signing of 21-year-old Kjaer, who moves from Palermo for an undisclosed fee. "Simon is not only a strong, aggressive defender, he also has a good personality on the field," managing director Dieter Hoeness told the club's official website. "He has the qualities of a leader.'' Kjaer was pleased to have joined a club seemingly on the up following the appointment of Steve McClaren as coach and the capture of Germany international Arne Friedrich last week. "The transfer means I have the chance to play for a top club,'' Kjaer said. "I think this is the right step for me. We have a strong team that can challenge at the top of the Bundesliga. First, I need to secure a regular place.'' Kjaer has made 11 appearances for Denmark and was one of the few players to impress for Morten Olsen's side as they crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage. He joined Palermo from FC Midtjylland in 2008 and went on to become one of the best young defenders in Serie A, reportedly attracting the attention of a number of big European clubs with his imperious displays last season. "We have seen him play on several occasions, most recently ... at the World Cup warm-up game against Senegal,'' Hoeness added. "It is no secret that we wanted to sign him in the January winter break but Palermo were not ready, at the time, for the change. We are happy that it has all come together now and that he has chosen us.'' http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=807080&sec=europe&cc=3436

That Kjaer to Wolfsburg is a weird transfer for me tbh. He had some of the biggest clubs in Europe chasing him and he would have been starting at a fair few of them but chose Wolfsburg.

A minor point, but perhaps Wolfsburg being relatively close to the Danish border had something to do with his decision. German league is very good at the moment, plenty of money around, big crowds - a new manager with a re-gained reputation...

Offered him a one year contract worth 30k/game (rather than 30k/week). He has a two year offer from Celtic which is worth more - Bruce is testing his desire to play in the Prem! At the same time we're not keen on paying the 8m asking price for John Mensah due to his chronic back problems.

Quote: Wenger - No Gourcuff move Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed reports linking him with a move for Bordeaux midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. The Gunners chief says he already has the ammunition he needs in midfield and has poured cold water on any suggested move. Wenger is an admirer of the French international, but he feels he does not need Gourcuff in his squad. "We are not interested [in Gourcuff] and we were never contacted," Wenger told Telefoot. "He's a player I like a lot, but we are sufficiently covered in midfield." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6255879,00.html I see this as good news for Arsenal. The fact that he says how we are sufficiently covered in midfield gives me the impression that Cesc isn't going anywhere, which of course is excellent fucking news.

30m for Torres is fucking retarded. Why do people keep making up these numbers? Even double that is undervaluing him.
Kjaer to Wolfsburg - although perhaps a little suprising, you can't say it's a bad move.

Quote: Ledley named in Celtic squad Joe Ledley has been included in the Celtic squad for the trip to the United States as the midfielder waits to finalise his future. The Wales international is out of contract at Cardiff City and appears poised for a move to Celtic after also attracting interest from Stoke City. The 23-year-old was offered a contract by Stoke, but held talks with Celtic earlier in the week regarding a switch to Parkhead. The lack of an official announcement prompted suggestions that Ledley's proposed transfer to the Old Firm giants had stalled, but an agreement now appears to be close. Celtic's chief executive Peter Lawwell said: "You can be very confident about Joe Ledley coming to Celtic Football Club." Ledley could be confirmed as a Bhoys player within the next 24 hours after he was named in the squad for the pre-season tour of the USA. The Celtic squad fly out on Monday and are due to face Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union in midweek. Philadelphia have been given a list of Celtic players available for the friendly and Ledley has been included in Neil Lennon's plans. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6256253,00.html

Quote: Scharner in Liverpool link Paul Scharner's agent has revealed a transfer to Liverpool would be a 'dream move' amid reports he is due to discuss a possible free transfer to Merseyside. New Reds boss Roy Hodgson is thought to be an admirer of the versatile 30-year-old, who left Wigan after his contract expired at the end of last season. Hodgson tried to sign the Austrian on three occasions when manager of Fulham, but failed in each attempt. It was also thought that the 62-year-old was trying to secure his signature at Craven Cottage before moving to Anfield at the start of July. Aston Villa and Sunderland are also rumoured to be interested in landing Scharner's signature, but Liverpool is believed to be his preferred destination. Dream move Scharner's agent Valentin Hobel confirmed Hodgson is a fan of the player and is waiting to see if Liverpool firm up any interest. "Roy Hodgson and Paul Scharner - this is a special relationship," said Hobel. "Hodgson thinks that Paul's strengths in midfield are better than his attributes in central defence. "Liverpool would be a dream, of course, but we are in contact with several clubs. Because he is a free transfer, he can choose." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6256110,00.html

Seriously, how cool must life be for Joe Cole at the moment? Could probably pick any team in England, Spain, Germany or Italy, if he was willing to drop his asking price. Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool fighting over his signature even with his asking price... Completely in control of his destiny - and even being excused for the terrible showing in South Africa - in fact, more than that, he's the one who's being named as the one who could have made a difference if he'd started the games.

I love the way he came out and said England lacked technique as a little dig at Capello for not giving him a go. Even with our midfield having more than enough options I'd love him at Arsenal. He's still a class player and would add some class and extra title winning experience to an inexperienced midfield. That and I don't want him at Spurs. Probably the only Chelsea player apart from Zola that I've liked.

When you think of it - Fabregas out for 50 million, Cole in on a Bosman, would represent some of the best business in Wenger's already outstanding transfer catalogue.
Also, going back a few posts - have to giggle at the Scharner-Sunderland link... He's made negative comments about Sunderland before, and he's stated that he doesn't like Steve Bruce as a manager, so I'm not sure how we'd deal with him!!

Quote: Palermo make Lucas Leiva bid Palermo have made an offer to Premier League outfit Liverpool for the services of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva, the club have admitted. Palermo's sporting director Walter Sabatini has revealed that the Sicilians have made an offer for the 23-year-old. “We have made an initial offer to the English club,” Sabatini told Tgs Sport. “However, I can deny claims that we have offered £5 million as reported by some media. We have offered much less than that…” Lucas was signed by Liverpool from Gremio in 2007 but has yet to fully win over the Anfield faithful. http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2010/07/12/2022476/palermo-make-lucas-leiva-bid

Quote: Bayern rule out Coentrao move Bayern Munich have dropped their interest in Portugal international Fabio Coentrao after being put off by Benfica's 'exorbitant demands'. Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that the talented young wing-back was a player they were monitoring, but that the Portuguese outfit's reported 30million euros (£25.2m) asking price had left the deal dead in the water. Coentrao, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea should Ashley Cole be tempted by a switch to Real Madrid, has attracted interest from a host of clubs across Europe. The 22-year-old started his career as an orthodox winger but was handed his chance in the Benfica first XI at left-back by Jorge Jesus and started all four of Portugal's World Cup matches in that position this summer. Rummenigge also insisted that the German champions would not be making a move for Brazil international Michel Bastos, although manager Louis van Gaal will continue to scour the transfer market for possible new additions. "Coentrao is a great player, but we are not even close to paying Benfica SL the money they are looking for. They've got exorbitant demands, this deal is off," Rummenigge told BILD. Keep looking "Michel Bastos is also no transfer possibility. He has been bought by Olympique Lyonnais for £15million last year. "I have spoken to Louis van Gaal, we are going to keep looking for the right player. "Should we find the right player, then it's fine. If we do not find the right player, Louis has no trouble playing Diego Contento (at left-back) at the start of the new season." Meanwhile, tough-tackling Holland international midfielder Mark van Bommel has urged Bayern to bring in international team-mate Gregory van der Wiel from Ajax. Van der Wiel played at right-back during the Netherlands' run to the World Cup final where they were beaten 1-0 by Spain after extra-time on Sunday evening. Van Bommel told El Mundo Deportivo: "I would be looking to sign Van der Wiel. He is a real engine. He is going to become the best full-back in the game in the next two years." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_6256883,00.html

Quote: Boruc set for Viola switch Fiorentina have agreed a deal to sign Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc subject to a medical. The 30-year-old Poland international is set to make the switch to Italy after five years with the Hoops, where he has made more than 200 appearances for the club after arriving from Legia Warsaw. Boruc had one year remaining on his contract at Parkhead but the Glasgow outfit have opted to sell the shot-stopper rather than risk losing him for free next summer. A statement on Fiorentina's official website said: "FC Fiorentina announces that it has reached agreement with Glasgow Celtic for the acquisition of Artur Boruc. "The negotiations will be completed after the results of the medical." The deal continued a busy Monday in the transfer market for Celtic, as former Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley finalised his move earlier in the day. However, Jimmy Bullard's proposed loan to the club from Hull City has fallen through. The expected departure of Boruc leaves compatriot Lukasz Zaluska as manager Neil Lennon's first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6257761,00.html

God fucking damnit. Just fucking shit. WHY would he go there? Do they think he's better than Frey? I know I do, but do they? Or maybe, it's time to get excited Gunners fans? Frey on the way to Emirates?

Doesn't make sense then why Wenger would chance Schwarzer so hard. In the end I'd probably rather Frey as he's younger but I'd be happy either way. With Almunia leaving at least we know we are getting a new keeper:lol:
