I can't see Arsenal parting with 16m for a 27 year old to be honest. We all known Wenger is careful with the cash, and it seems more than likely he'll pull off a deal for another defender none of us have noticed or heard of before for a decent price. So for me, Jagielka seems unlikely (though I've been wrong many many times).

As a United fan, I hope we don't lose Vidic. Say what you want about the attacking talents of Rooney and Ronaldo, but I think it's been the solid foundations of our defence that has really been our reason for success.

Offered him a one year contract worth 30k/game (rather than 30k/week). He has a two year offer from Celtic which is worth more - Bruce is testing his desire to play in the Prem!

I've heard that Campbell got a 2 year deal at Newcastle, opt out clause for NUFC if Sol plays less than 20 games in the first season or if they are relegated. And he's on more than the 30k Sunderland offered him. That's from an ex-NUFC staffer, so not 100%.

He's already bought a defender we've never heard of in Laurent Koscielny, and He's said he's looking for one more defender and has said he's looking for an experienced player. It makes sense he'd look for an English player who's proven quality in the EPL.

It wouldn't surprise me if he goes for Jagielka the hardest.

Everyone's reporting that he's signed, it's the terms of the deal I found interesting. 40k/week, 2 years - but only if he plays often enough. Strange to see NUFC actually looking after themselves on the back end of one of their contracts.

Our list of desperate needs goes like this.
1) Central defender.
2) Goalkeeper
3) Some extra steel in midfield. Simply because we only have Song there and no one else.

I'd put a centre back ahead of a goalkeeper just because we only have 3 centrebacks at the moment whereas we have 4 goalkeepers. As bad as it is putting one of Almunia or Fabianski in goals we need another cb just a little bit more than a gk.

We obviously need both but if I had to choose one or the other it'd be a new CB, because going into a season with only 3 recognised centrebacks is just suicide and we may as well not bother then.

Newcastle have pulled out of the Sol Campbell transfer. Apparently he wouldn't sign the deal with the release clause in it and they weren't prepared to saddle themselves with him at 45k/week for 2 years.

Sunderland's 1 year, 30k/game deal is still on the table.

Maarten Stekelenburg, Gregory van der Wiel, and Luis Suarez 'set for triple Arsenal transfer'

Arsenal are preparing to take advantage of the upheaval at Ajax, with manager Martin Jol heading to Fulham this week, by lodging an audacious £42million transfer bid for Maarten Stekelenburg, Gregory van der Wiel, and Luis Suarez. According to sources in Italy, where several Serie A teams have been tracking one or more of the trio in question, Arsene Wenger believes getting all three at once will help them to adapt to English football. And he is prepared to usurp leading suitors Juventus and Inter Milan to land the highly-rated players.

Suarez, Van der Wiel, and Stekelenburg all found fame with star turns at the World Cup for semi-finalists Uruguay and runners-up Holland, respectively. But their futures at Ajax remain in doubt because of Jol's impending departure to west London and the Amsterdam club's debts after they lost £17.8million last year. The Gunners are thought to be keen to bring in a goalkeeper to replace current no.1 Manuel Almunia, who Wenger doubts can cope with the big occasion. And Stekelenburg has already proved he is more than capable with a good performance in the semi-finals and final of the World Cup. His Dutch team-mate Van der Wiel showed himself to be a more than capable right-back in South Africa and is a long-time target of Wenger's.

Suarez has also been attracting interest from clubs around Europe after helping his side to the last-four during the summer tournament. And his free-flowing style would compliment existing forwards Andrei Arshavin, Robin van Persie, and Theo Walcott - as well as recent signing Marouane Chamakh.

Yeah I know it would be awesome but just so far out of the realms of possibility:lol:

Add to that the only player out of those 3 we need is Steklenberg. Buying Van Der Wiel and Suuarez would just be buying players in positions where we have more than enough depth already.

I'd take Sagna over Van der Wiel any day. He's been one of our most consistent players ever since he arrived and tbh hardly ever puts a foot wrong.

I don't know what it is but I just love Sagna. Sure he's got the most fucking retarded haircut in the world:lol: but the bloke just seems to be one of those players that does what he needs to do with a minimum of fuss. One of Wenger's best signings imo.

Sunderland have agreed a fee with Wigan for defender Titus Bramble. Bramble was a classic comedy defender whilst with Newcastle, but has won player-of-the-season twice in two years since joining Wigan. He's out of contract next summer and we've reportedly agreed a fee of 1 million, rising to 3 million on appearances.

Can't say I'm thrilled, but I'll trust Stevie Bruce's judgement on this one. He was the coach, after all, who turned Bramble from the slapstick comedy merchant of Tyneside to a competent stalwart of Wigan.

Would it be safe to assume that if you got Bramble Sol isn't an option?

Bramble's a good pickup for 1m imo, was fairly solid last season and is far from the joke of a centreback he was earlier in his career.

Not to mention built like a brick shithouse:lol:

Gosling agrees Magpies move

Skysports.com understands Newcastle are poised to sign former Everton youngster Dan Gosling in the next 24 hours.

As exclusively revealed by skysports.comat the start of July, Newcastle were lining up a shock move for Gosling following a contract wrangle at Everton.

Gosling and his representatives are on Tyneside to put the finishing touches to his move to St James' Park.

The England Under-21 international arrives at Newcastle on a four-year deal after leaving Everton on a free transfer earlier this summer.

The Premier League ruled earlier this month Gosling was free to leave Goodison Park after the former Plymouth youngster was not given a new contract offer in writing.

Everton claimed they offered Gosling a rise verbally, but nothing was sent to him by the due date and he was allowed to leave for nothing.

Gosling, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, is set to become Newcastle's second signing of the summer following the arrival of James Perch from Nottingham Forest.

Bramble appears to be a replacement for Anton Ferdinand, who will be out before the season kicks off. In that respect he's definitely an improvement - I really don't have a lot of time for Anton. However, we're still short at the back with John Mensah having gone home. We need an old head to bring the best out of Turner and Bramble, Sol might be that man.

It appears that Sol is taking his time waiting for the best deal before making up his mind though. He's got a few options, but the fact that he's just bought a mansion in Northumberland would imply that it's either Newcastle or Sunderland.
