Yeah, I always hated when Juliar, KRUdd and Electricity Bill Shorten would just get away with name calling, the honourable right would never stoop to such pathetic levels.

That's not name calling, Bronwyn Bishop ruled that as simple description...

I don't think the right claim the moral and intellectual high ground when they do it, like the left do.

Now 88 days since an unauthorised boat rival. That translates into potentially hundreds of lives being saved. We all know if the Greens/Labor were still in government they the boats would continue to arrive and the blood continue to flow. It's clear the Liberals have won the policy and moral war on this issue and the Greens/labor faux compassion exposed as a cruel hoax.

Thank you Mr. Abbot. Your border policy's have been a blessing to this country and people looking to come here, preventing the drowning deaths of hundreds (potentially thousands).

You just know the left are PRAYING for a boat load of asylum seekers to sink and kill all on board so they can blame Abbott and attack his policies. They appear to very upset lives aren't being consumed by the sea and this is making Mr Abbott look very saintly.

Much like most of them were secretly happy at the fact that the Iranian man was killed in detention, giving them an avenue to further attack Abbot.

Do people honestly believe that if the Liberal government was in a huge coverup of asylum seeker arrivals, it wouldn't have been leaked by now?

Think about it:

- Wouldn't a single navy officer who opposes the liberal party come forward (anonymously) to a newspaper/media outlet and break the story?
- Wouldn't there be huge discrepancy's in resource allocation towards the Manus Island center if we were housing way more people than we thought were there?

+1.

And now with the Greens being kicked out of Tasmania, they don't have much left to do but protest and create angry banners complaining about the unfairness of Democracy

There are only two intellectually honest debate tactics: (a) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s facts, or (b) pointing out errors or omissions in your opponent’s logic. All other debate tactics are intellectually dishonest - John T. Reed

Or just, you know, allow for a more affordable system for the taxpayer where we process visas as they come and not rely on dog whistle anti immigration catch phases to win elections.

There is no such thing as a more affordable system for the taxpayer where asylum seekers casually surf waves onto the shores of Xmas Island, where upon arrival give high fives to Navy personnel before flying to the mainland to start their news lives as pillars of the community. But I do admire your vision, even if it is childish and naive.

No, the military would investigate the source of the leak and they would find themselves court-martialed for insubordination. A career ender in the navy.

But consider this; there is No government data as to the number of residents interred at Manus Island. If the system were 'working' then surely there wouldn't be any need to hide that data.

They are just worthless conspiracy theories, Afro. Just denials of the obvious unquestionable truth because your feeble mind is unable to admit this governments policy is succeeding.

If the government was lying about boat arrivals not only would this be a near impossible secret to suppress from the prying eyes of the media and from internal leaks but they would be found out eventually and it would destroy the credibility of the government and they would be thrown out.

The most sensible, rational, frank explanation is that there have been no boat arrivals for 88 days. They don't have to lie and hide the truth because it's easier to turn boats arrive than try to contrive some sort of ridiculous elaborate hoax like you are suggesting. I know deep down in the recesses of your barren intellect you know this is the truth, it's just too painful to admit a Liberal policy has worked so you'd rather cling onto your cheesy conspiracy theories.

Simple part that the left of the political persuasion does not want to publically acknowledge is that Australia did not decrease intake quota of the asylum seekers.
Every time an illegal boat arrives with asylum seekers, they take the place of a genuine refugee stuck in an UN refugee camp waiting legally to emigrate here.

This isn't Schroedinger's Asylum Seeker champ. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

You don't believe in Gravity, evolution or electricity either do you?

If the government wanted to prove that there had been no boat arrivals they'd remove the gagging order on the Australian media. Proof or GTFO.

On a related note, I've just been to the moon and back. The media didn't report otherwise so it must be true.

Not actually true.

There is no difference in validity or status between a refugee seeking asylum offshore or onshore. There is no queue to jump, no-one in a UN camp has a deli-counter style number saying "You are 43rd in line to go to Australia." In fact, this perception of a queue is a fallacy manufactured by the Howard government linking our offshore and onshore refugee quotas in 1996.

Asylum seekers who arrive by boat, contrary to the propaganda, are legitimate refugees and are assessed as such. Those who do not meet the requirements for asylum are repatriated, just as happens in offshore refugee camps. The issue is that we do not assess their claims in a timely or efficient manner, and we do not provide an adequate standard of living whilst doing so.

Vastly more asylum seekers come by plane than boat (contrary to what that super trustworthy font of information Wikipedia says. Needs some moderation there), and aren't vilified at all. In fact, most are given bridging visas to live in the community whilst their claims are assessed. The position of (at least my subset of) the anti-current asylum policy faction is that if you are able to source a tourist or work visa to enter Australia, it is logical that you are less likely to be under extreme duress than if you have to flee your country surreptitiously. As such, non-visa arrivals such as those arriving on boats should not be persecuted as criminals and left to rot in frankly awful conditions whilst our immigration department lackadaisically dawdles through red tape to determine their eligibility.

If you are going to pretend to feel sorry for asylum seekers in UN camps, rally against the plane arrivals not the boat arrivals.

There is a difference, between those who have been assessed and declared as bona fide refugees, some who've spent many many years languishing in appalling conditions waiting for resettlement, and those who use their financial advantage to pay criminals for a place on board a leaky vessel that aims to circumvent Australian laws, risk our Navy personnel , their own lives and emotionally blackmail our politicians into accepting them as refugees. There may not be a linear, numeric "bean counter" queue as such, but there are people in greater need of resettlement who are being denied opportunities to resettle due to our flawed processes which favours and rewards those who are cashed up and deal with criminals. The system under Labor was very unfair, in that that the intake from UN refugee camps was a lot lower than it was under the Howard government who dispensed visas based on need not income.

I notice under the Labor government the majority of boat arrivals were initially denied visas and only obtained them through the appeals process. It makes you wonder how many of those we've taken in had a legitimate case for asylum, and whether those visas were granted on evidence or lack of evidence to repatriate. We've get one of the highest % intakes in the world based on on-shore assessments, most other countries are 50% or less. Even in the last few years you can see there is a trend towards rejecting asylum applications, which peaked at 99% in 2010 and was down to 88% in 2013. Clearly word was getting out that Australia was going soft on border control and handing out visas like confetti.

It's difficult to assess asylum applications timely and efficiently when these people have discarded personal ID and documents. We don't just want to let any stranger into the community who could be of undesirable character and threaten law and order. Our obligation isn't to provide a 'high standard of living', it's to provide a safe place to live and the basic necessities to live while their claims are assessed. The facilities may not be the Hilton but they are good enough for the purpose they serve.

In 2012/13 18k asylum seekers came by boat and only 8k (a record) came by plane. It's a common myth perpetuated by the left that that the volume of arrivals by plane is significantly higher than by boat. They deliberately try to play down boat arrivals as though they're just a 'drop in the ocean' when the reality is boats are arriving here in significant numbers and costing our country billions to rescue and house these people. Plane arrivals are far more palatable in that they bring with them full ID (for conducting security checks etc), are usually here on legitimate visas (travel or business) and have already been assessed as fit to participate in the community. This contrasts with boat people who've paid criminals, chucked their ID, meandered their way through Asia to ports in Indonesia to board illegal unseaworthy vessels which have a good chance of sinking and killing all on board, or calling on our Navy to "rescue' them and provide an escort service into Australia.

If you are going to pretend to feel sorry for asylum seekers in UN camps, rally against the plane arrivals not the boat arrivals.

If you are going to pretend to feel sorry for boat arrivals, rally against the laws which have lead to over one thousand lives lost at sea.
