In my first job as a teenager in a supermarket, we were all pressured to join whatever union covered us at the time. Not intense pressure, but you would have a rep walking up to 15 year olds telling them they had to join.

Yeah, this is the best description of "pressure" to join unions. It's a long way from the standover nonsense that finklestein asserts.

just so you get it right Matt, the standover tactics i talk about are not that on union membership, they are the stand over tactics used to extort money and influence over who wins jobs and how to keep those job free of union trouble, you should have watched the ABC four corners earlier this week for a full and convincing endorsement of what i have been saying

I have seen it, BTW.

It's not widespread in the union movement.

Heck, it's not even widespread in the CFMEU.

Yer classy wasnt it, turning Whitlams funeral into a popularity contest for most beloved Labor PM.

As for Whitlam he was a clearly a bit of a gloryhunter, obviously no good to last more than one term but jammed enough dogooding to earn a seat at the right hand of god.

CMFEU are the worst union ever.

Been on a site where they had a full time representative and they were disruptive for the sake of it. Cunts like this are a problem not a solution to workplace issues.

Go on then explain how the things Whitlam is being praised for was actually bad...

Well he did a lot of things but he had no clue how they would be funded, other than leaving it to future governments, including his own, to figure it out including reversing some of his policy decisions.

It would be like you or me becoming PM and then announcing free education, free public transport, free housing for the homeless, free internet etc and totally obliterating the economy in the process to secure your own legacy. Thats what Whitlam did, shook the country of all its spare change and more to fund his vision.

You're a complete wank

Sorry, i forget that anything you don't agree with is wrong.

The example I will use is excavation stability. I was hired to assess the stability. CMFEU had a wobbly because I conveyed my findings to a representative of Theiss only and the union wasn't contacted for comment. The result was that I had to waste 3 hours (non-chargable) to go and re-assess the same thing so that the union was happy. That is how I qualify my above point.

So you're wrong, ignorant and go fuck yourself :)

There wasn't a procedure. My procedure is reporting to my Client, not a union rep.

The union rep was meant to get a copy of any reports I sent, that was all.

You're still ignorant and wrong :)

Also use the correct terminology, it was non-chargable. I got paid, my company did not, which is unfair. Isn't that what unions are for?

There wasn't one.

In a contract where a consultant provides a professional assessment to a client, having an unrelated entity insisting on being involved makes things unnecessarily difficult. Their conduct was consistent;y unprofessional on the site in question.

Have you worked with constructions based engineers before?

real experiences do not matter to this bunch, they object and deny just for the sake of it and to frustrate and troll.....i know that some unions and union reps are corrupt, you know that some unions and union reps are corrupt, why bother trying to convince the uninitiated to your experiences with these unions? i have witnessed and been targeted by the unions for no good reason.
