I honestly don't care if gays get married.

But it's so obvious it's being used as a tool to distract from actually important issues that will affect alot of people.

Enjoy having your tax dollars going to multinational corporations, enjoy your internet freedoms going away, enjoy lowered food and energy production standards and enjoy investment banks dicking our country.

But as long as gays can get married right?

You fucking imbecile.

People have posting (myself included) about those things for months. The people trying to distract are ones that say "that isn't as important as issue x".

Things don't happen linearly in government, in fact the latest attempt is a private member's bill put to parliament by the opposition leader so it didn't waste one second of the government's time in being devised. Even if it did, there is more than one parliamentarian and they each have a number of staff supporting them.

One final tip, when people prioritise things sometimes it's not just by how important it is but they also do some analysis on impacts and effort required. The marriage equality bill is a very simple amendment to the current legislation.

one very simple amendment to the current legislation?

put down the pipe

state's rights have been overridden on a socially contentious issue by unelected officials. why because there's no way the public in the USA would've supported such a measure en masse across every state

What are you on about?

The TPP and marriage equality are not even remotely related. You can be against the TPP and for marriage equality and there is no conflict. The point I'm making to be much clearer, is that the 2 issues are in completely different ministerial portfolios so it's not like they can't do both at the same time.

If you want to talk about the TPP just post about it.

I agree with you there, but that's not what I'm arguing.

I'm merely stating that the majority of people won't give two shits about the TPP (despite it having a much larger impact on them), and will be fixated on the gay marriage issue (or should I say non-issue) instead.

It's extremely coincidental that the supreme court comes to their decision during the time in which the TPP has been given fast-track authority.

433 mate, its a theory you have and it may or may not be true - I dont know. distractions are often used when contentious legislation is being passed.
the most notable was the Defense Authorisation Act which was signed off on New Years Eve of all times.

however you're drawing a long bow to assume its true unless you have more evidence. its pointless even raising it with this crowd because they believe everything the ABC tells them and wouldnt dream that the great Obama and the uncorruptable American Legal System would engage in such underhanded practices

Ok I see what you're saying. It's possible as the supreme court is not without its political influence but I can see the TPP being trumpeted as a victory whenever the US signs on to it. It definitely will be the case here.

Your sentence literally singles out a group of people and implies 'gay' marriage, like it is a distinct seperate thing to the rest of the 'normal' marriages.

not the marketing term of "marriage equality"

I often wonder but I can't quite pin point what it is about you. If I had to guess I would go with either mental illness, substance abuse or someone failed you when you were a child.

Your sentence literally singles out a group of people and implies 'gay' marriage, like it is a distinct seperate thing to the rest of the 'normal' marriages.

it is a distinct separate thing if you havent noticed.
its not legal in Australia. did you miss that part?

are you one of these people who believes in gender fluidity? yes or no?

Pretty sure it is still just called marriage in Australia, only that it is not accessible to some couples because the government wants to prohibit them.

If people feel or identify as gender fluid, who am I not to believe them. Why would they lie, for what gain.
