I applaud batty's rant as it's true people need to do their share but it's not hypocrisy. Who's claiming all the responsibility for carbon emissions lies with the government? I've never seen one. There are however things that are completely beyond the individuals ability to control that need to be changed as well, this is where the government steps in.

I think it's hypocritical to be against a carbon price when the thing that effects people's behaviour the most is a hit to their hip pocket.

I think the big scare with emissions trading when it first came about (when mining was stronger) was that it was absolutely smashing logistics companies. The government did get Linfox on board though, I remember their radio ads supporting the scheme.

I also recall there being issues with how the money was used with groups accusing the government of putting the money into the 'general pool' rather than using it specifically for climate change measures.

Well said batfink.

Totally agree with you on accountability.

Unfortunately we usually have to wait until elections to enforce that accountability in order to "stop the rot" on whatever given party is sucking eggs at the time.

=d> We are a wasteful species. My biggest hate is going to woollies and get 2 items per bag resulting in walking out with 30 or so bags. It's all because some dickhead doesn't want eggs in with bread or bloody frozen chicken tenders in with frozen peas or something. It's disgraceful. I not annoy them with those carry bags they sell :)

Well, the environment is the major policy focus, so the word 'Greens' implies the greenery of a typically healthy natural land environment?

Plenty vote for the Greens in the senate. They provide a check and balance which is exactly what the senate is supposed to do. (It is a house of review after all.)

They don't get everything right but the alternative (having a rubber stamping senate) is not ideal either.

You absolute cunt of a person.

Just some facts for you:

1) self funded through uni, I have no HeCS debt. Nice try though.
2) we are actually civil and construction consultants. Our major clients are civil contractors. Mining work accounts for approximately 10% of our work.
3) What kind of sick perverted fuck stalks someone on FB to come back at them on an internet forum? You have to be the worst person on here. At least I don't need a username to hide who I am so I can be a keyboard warrior.
4) Do you understand irony? Clearly not.

I would thank you not to stalk me on Facebook because lets face it, your attempts to undermine me are inappropriate.

In order to avoid reporting you to a mod for being an absolute dog i'd prefer you didn't stalk me on FB in a pathetic attempt to try and paraphrase my life and social media habits to reinforce your point. There is no need for it. You're probably acting your age given your tone with people in here but I respectfully ask you not to visit my FB again with the intention of using it to post here.

Probably should have thought of that before talking smack on a forum with your actually name.

No Joke..... to me they are just a protest party that offer little to nothing in real terms, except opposing just about everyting and standing for nothing

Plenty vote for the Greens in the senate. They provide a check and balance which is exactly what the senate is supposed to do. (It is a house of review after all.)

They don't get everything right but the alternative (having a rubber stamping senate) is not ideal either.

Which is what sucks about QLD's political system (aka not having the second tier of parliament).

What are peoples thoughts on one day doing away with preferences system?

I personally would like to see more of the minor parties get a chance imo.

Not having preferences would harm the minors as the false argument "you're throwing your vote away" would become true. What I would like to see is:
1. Optional preferential voting: I don't want to have to vote for the One Nation or the Libs so I should be able to leave their boxes empty and have my vote still counted
2. Above the line preferential voting for the senate: I like voting below the line but a lot don't so allowing this would kill off a lot of the powerful preference trading that parties engage in.

Sounds like someone who'd be awesome hang out with.

I didn't think people on an internet forum would actually be that bloody pathetic.

I will have to change my username to avoid this BS.

Because I am a vindictive bastard I derive a perverse pleasure in putting Pauline Hanson's 1 Nation party dead last on the senate sheet every election.

Of course that means you have to fill out the numbers 1 to 168 (or whatever) and it takes you a good 5 minutes to do so but an unintended happy coincidence of that pettiness is that I am one of the few people that can stand up and say that all those minorities that got in via mad preference deals had nothing to do with me.

I bring it up every time the father-in-law goes off about the senate not passing anything. ("Yeah but you voted above the line only right?" )
