I have no doubt that the CFMEU does great things for it's members. It's the way it deals with other parties that gives me concern.

Good old melbourne_television. Posting in the politics thread while his team is playing the first half of the FFA cup final.

sooooooooooo salty

Coming from a dilettante who said he was going to be at the game and then couldn't even pay attention to it for 90 minutes on television, I'll take that with a single grain of salt.

Yes - and when I told him that the only thing we had in common is that we would both be watching our team play in the cup final on television, he said he was going to be at the game.

Salty. Face it the royal commission was a waste of tax payers money. 80 mil is a joke but i wouldn't expect you to say anything bad against the libs considering you're a swinging voter

well if you were capable of reading post you would see i opened with exactly that, massive waste of money....

Shorten did the standard union trick, which means its impossible to be charged due to technicality......but he did do what all construction unions do, and that is manufacture positions that don't ecist for union members and to also charge companies for "consulting fees".....as if any real companies would engage the union to consult for them unless they are placed under duress to do so.......wake the fuck you stupid kunts

The construction industry is rife with dodginess, from employers, unions etc etc.

But corruption requires 2 sides. What you are missing batfink was that the royal commission was intended to smear the union movement in general, and shorten & gillard specifically. Hence the focus on minor issues rather than looking at systemic issues like consulting fees etc.

It wasn't about improving how unions and employers interact, it was about throwing mud.

Hell yes. If people think companies dont do some murky shit todo deals with unions are kidding themselves. I know of one company that tried to do something highly illegal to do a deal but someone blew the whistle and the directors got fired snd bared for running a company

i am missing nothing.......for age and eternity the ALP and the unions have had a dirty relationship, perhaps you people are not old enough to have witnessed the bad old days, yes the ALP has cleaned its act up a lot ( become better at hiding the facts just as the union has) i have and know of loads of people who the union have placed under duress and manipulated to gain a result.......been there seen witnessed it and experienced it, been to court against them, they are grubs of the highest order, so i know first hand of their bribes, deals and corrupt ways........

i have been a company director for 28 years now and can confirm that there is no reason for me to engage a union as a consultant.....FFS....LOL.....how does a court prove the consultant fees were illegal?? so well structured and white collar crime it's not funny...........

but anyway continue to shout me down, it's ok i know what takes place and i know who are the criminals......

It is a well known fact that in order to get work on the Curtis Island APLNG project, you must have union membership.

Just a general question:

Does putting down a series of smiley faces at the end of a diatribe mean you're;

(a) being passive aggressive
(b) not serious in the first place
(c) a weirdo with a warped sense of humour
(d) a clown with no clue

Some clarity would be appreciated. (And not from fuckwits that live in Adelaide with ZERO life experience.   )

I mean if you want to insult someone, insult them. Not this half arsery I see all the time.

The whole character shaming nonsense is going too far. Clearly we can't talk about immigration because it turns into a shit slinging contest that spills into every thread.

Can't we just go back to complaining about liberals and anyone who isn't a communist again?

Some "character" accusations are fair. The original allegation that being in Adelaide I wouldn't know what it's like in Sydney was a valid argument (though false) and was relevant to the discussion. My questioning of rusty's impartiality regarding the NBN is in my opinion fair. There's been a lot of other shit though that's completely irrelevant.

If people didn't retaliate, this stuff would end. I don't know how others think but I usually think the one that goes on the attack in such an irrelevant or primitive way are the dickheads that lose the argument.

So in a late night news drop. Bill shorten had been found not guilty in the royal commission into union corruption.

But batfink said he was corrupt...

Just shows you have much of a waste of money royal commissions are, If you are so naive to think he is innocent then have a great day in the clouds......

Al Capone wasn't a gangster or into Racketeering..... he was never charged so he must never have been guilty.....

Royal Commission's have coercive powers that go beyond a normal court and they still found nothing.

Do you ever go outside of where you live or do you stay in your bubble and commentate on things contrived from your own imagination rather than what your eyes see?

nope is the simple answer

The original allegation that being in Adelaide I wouldn't know what it's like in Sydney was a valid argument (though false) and was relevant to the discussion.

Sorry to, once again, be an 'intellectual elitist latte sipping snob academic who doesn't live in the real world', but even those who live in a certain area, such as Western Sydney, don't know that particular area, without statistical research of psychological demographics to provide them knowledge of said area.
Those that gobble up the fear mongering from our current government, are typically right wing leaning, not centrist as they would like to portray and its well known with even cursory involvement in discussions that right wing ideology and an evidenced based, logically structured argument are negatively correlated. What you typically get from a right winger is plenty of logical fallacies, with the ad hominem fallacy being the most utilised (as evidenced clearly in this & other threads).

The reality is that the relationship between big business and big unions is much more based around greasing each others palms than conflict for the most part.

Again, the royal commission did not reveal anything about the systemic nature of how unions and employers interact. It wasted its time on things like who paid for renovations done at Gillard's house, or what deal Shorten got in an enterprise agreement.

I WISH the royal commission had done a real job at exposing the collusion and dealmaking that occurs, especially in the construction industry. But they didn't.
