think the tricky thing in comparing geen and platoon is the era they were made. Platoon came after films like MASH, The Deer Hunter, Apoc. Americans were far more willing to look critically at themselves by that time. By the 80s they knew Vietnam was a mistake. When they started planning Green they were more confident. Korea didnt have the whole antiwar attitudes. Couldnt imagine John Wayne in anything anti American.
Good luck.
Now does anyone know Patrick White's the aunts story , Stow's Tourmaline or Tirra lirra by the river? (In about 73 hours i finish my studies)

Yeah in my SAC about the comparison I talked about how Green was propaganda made by John Wayne in trubute to the Green Berets and how Platoon was loosely based on Oliver Stone's own experiences in war and was made to counter Green Berets

It was highly critical of the american involvement in Korea.

I guarantee you more drivers break the speeding laws every day than cyclists breaking roads rules in a year. Ok everywhere you go in Sydney you will see countless times a day when Cyclists go through a red light. Hang on aren't they the same as motorists. How many times you see a cyclist mount the gutter to beat traffic. Just because they want to have the same rights as motorists doesn't mean they ride in the middle of the road and cause fucking traffic. Last time I checked it was considered dangerous for a motorist to drive to far below the speed limit. So why is it ok for cyclists. As far as im concerned they should be booked for everytime they go through a red light or mount the gutter.

Has anyone noticed that when a thread is locked now, the red card doesn't come up? Or is it just for me? EDIT: Well in ET at least.

Edited by socceroos_fan: 17/11/2009 08:21:30 PM That's only with Polls I'm fairly sure. The poll graphic seems to outweigh the Red Card graphic.

I should probably watch it. I wasn't aware of the book's ties to the tv show though. my point was, mash was one of the first to set the trend and a change in direction for american war movies.

Running a red light is fucking stupid and I have never done it, never will. It is not worth it to save 5 or 10 seconds. Cyclists are supposed to cycle on the left hand side of the road unless instructed otherwise by signs or cycleways. There are always fuckwits that think they own the road no matter what you ride/drive though. There are bike/car/van/truck/scooter/motorcycle/pocketbike that think they own the road and do whatever they like all the time. It is ridiculous. But yeah I'm just saying it's not just cyclists that do dumb shit. They have a right to use the road too if they use it properly.

You hear about so many cyclists that have been hit in intersections and majority, if not all of those have run the light. It's a serious problem.
Anth, the problem is that cyclists think 'left hand side of the road' means 'not the right hand lane' and so will take up all of the left hand lane. You're a fucking bicycle, you need one wheel rut, MAX to ride in.

Depending where you're driving, even a cyclist hugging the gutter of the outer most lane effectively takes up the entire lane because a) you don't want to get too close to them in case you hit them (whether you are in the right or wrong is irrelevant); b) even if your judgment is good enough to get you close enough to the rider such that you remain in your lane, the vast majority of drivers simply don't have the ability/judgment and/or confidence to do so (not to mention getting that close is just careless - see point (a)); c) most cars, buses and trucks won't fit in the lane with a cyclist hugging the left side. For those points, and considering a bicycle is deemed to be a vehicle on the road, I don't mind if a cyclist takes up the entire outside lane - because you will have to at the very least overlap the adjacent lane (which effectively means you've taken up that lane yourself.) What pisses me off though is cyclists deciding they want to use SYdney's arterial roads during peak hour. eg. Pennant Hills Rd, Victoria Rd, Pacific Hwy. ](*,)

Have you been in a car with Guest at the wheel? :-" The thing with cyclists is that you'd expect them to keep left so that you don't have to move into the entire second lane when you pass them and risk the honks of the car driving behind you in the second lane.
