And falcons or hawks are not exactly common birds in western Sydney and never have been. Red and black seem more working class than any other colour. Plus no other teams in A-league have red and black. Falcons and hawks are lame. I hope no animal is associated with this club what so ever.

Nice kit; I also like your take on the HAL logo @ the bottom-right corner. Looks livelier than the actual one.

I've never seen a falcon or hawk in Western Sydney. I've only ever seen fruit bats or magpies.

No. Just no. But please no flora or fauna names either. It has to be "Western" something...is Western Unity" too corny? I'd settle for West United

Personally I don't think Colonial (Sydney) FC will work out West.
Western Sydney is the poster child for multiculturalism so a name linked with the First Fleet probably won't work. Too many effniks out West ;)

I was doing some reading the other day and came across a March 1791 map of Sydney that detailed the routes taken by William Dawes while exploring the area west of Rose Hill (now Parramatta) in 1789 and all of it started out from a hill that Governor Philip climbed in the initial look inland in 1788. He named it Prospect Hill because all the land from Rose Hill to the mountains to the north, west and south could be seen from it and showed "great prospect". This entire area soon after was named the Cumberland Plain. I have suggested previously that Cumberland would be a good name for a team because of the history of the area but so too would Prospect. The advantage of these names is twofold, its removes the historically disliked "west" or "western" tag and it allows the potential for other teams in the region without them being seen as also rans because the "west" has already been claimed. Names like Nepean and Macarthur come to mind for possible future district based teams in an A2 or eventually the A-League. Interestingly the title Prospect Cumberland is used for the area by a number of government entities.
Any thoughts on Cumberland FC or Prospect FC?

Maybe Endeavour FC?

Maybe Endeavour FC? Now that you mention it, I would highly highly highly highly highly approve of at least one team in the league with a name that doesn't include their location. I like Colonial FC but it doesn't even remotely represent West Sydney so it's definitely not for them.

Sorry, but I have to LOL just a little for a thread about a team that doesn't exist being 18 pages and counting. FWIW, I would love the team to not have West in it's name. Look at Milan, Manchester, Glasgow, Madrid etc, no teams that are split geographically. I've often though Cumberland should be used in the name, or something similar. Even though red and black seem to be the choice for any new team, I reckon getting the backing or all the different groups in Sydney's west would be easier if the team played in something similar to the Socceroos (if the FFA would allow it).

Not bad for a team that doesn't exist yet the apparent official GCU thread that is linked in the HAL Club Threads post is currently on 3 pages ;) The proof is in the pudding

Quote:Axing leaves void to fill BY BEN CHENOWETH 15 Mar, 2012 01:00 AM EVER since mining magnate Clive Palmer had his Football Federation licence torn up, there has been speculation whether or not a western Sydney team could enter the A-league. Palmer, owner of Gold Coast United, was told his team would not be eligible to compete in Australia's top-tier football league next season — opening the door for another team to fill the void. That team could be based in western Sydney. Football NSW CEO Eddie Moore said the numbers suggested the team would be a success. "Sydney's west has a huge football playing and fan base so having a team there would be fantastic for the community," Moore said. "In 2011, Football NSW had 171,892 players registered and one third were from western Sydney. "This itself poses huge potential for the game to grow further." Parramatta Stadium director Luke Coleman said the venue would be an ideal home ground for the new team. "From what I understand the area is a huge catchment for players and fans," he said. "The surface here is of international class and we have a 20,000 person capacity. "A-League numbers can fluctuate but if you get a crowd of under 10,000 here, it is still a great atmosphere. "We were involved with the previous bid but we haven't been contacted recently." In 2009, the FFA granted a licence to the Sydney Rovers to enter the A-League in the 2011-2012 season. The team was to represent the west of Sydney including Parramatta, Blacktown and Campbelltown. Less than a year later the team folded. Parramatta Stadium was considered one of two possible home venues. Ex-socceroo Charlie Yankos was a partner in the Rovers consortium. He said the region is still capable to host a team. "It is pretty logical really," he said. "It [western Sydney] has been thought about for a long time. "If the FFA approved it, I have no doubt it would be embraced by the community." There are currently only nine teams eligible for the 2012-2013 season. Frank Lowy told Fox Sports on Tuesday that: "The question with western suburbs is can we field a team for this October?" http://www.parramattasun.com.au/news/local/sport/football-soccer/axing-leaves-void-to-fill/2489106.aspx
