The whole violence and flare excuse for not allowing ethnic sides is bullshit. Everyone goes on about how much we've come along. Incidents now days are still beat up in the media, how bad could it of been in the NSL. No its obvious the NSL wasn't clean but is the a-league? Can anyone say that if those lines of stewards hadn't been between the Victory and Adelaide fans at AO last season a few slapping contests wouldn't of broken out?
Some of todays beat ups:

You will always get drunks, troublemakers and freckle faced kids who want to replicate what they see on TV in many sports with large spectator bases. In the NSL's case, and even though attendances were small in comparison it was a matter of ethnic wars, country vs country on issues that had nothing to do with Australia. It is this type of imported violence that the media and Australians despise the most. Keep it away!

So, just to be certain, it's okay for a bunch of f*ckknuckles to have a fight, light a few flares, shout a lot and generally annoy everyone around them - giving the media a chance to bitch about 'soccer hooligans' - just so long as they are focusing on their clubs?

Not at all. Our biggest rivals were Olympic and Marconi. What ethnic rivalry is there between Croats and Italians/Greeks? You're an idiot. Violence is violence. Just because in one instance you've got a Croat and a Greek it doesnt make it 'ethnic' violence. I bet that some of the people involved in A-League fights/riots are also of Greek/Italian/whatever heritage. Does that make it ethnic violence as well?

I am however for ex-NSL teams coming in IF they can drop there ethnic bullshit and engage all australians like the southern cross fc bid.a rebrand would be needed.
In WS the majority wanted a club that includes all people australian first and foremost. See, this is where this argument becomes stupid. Why is Sydney FC more of an Australian club than Sydney United?

-PB I only see ex-nsl whinging and a-league supporters replying, not the other way around. This is an a-league website. Its a Football Website, not just A-League. -PB What makes up the majoirty of the content? In terms of bandwidth I'd suspect that the majority of content is taken up by pictures of attractive young ladies in the Extra Time - Not Safe for Work thread.

No type of misbehaviour is ok. There will always be trouble makers as I said and you ignored. The NSL hooligans knocked people unconscious, sent them to hospital in a fight for their homeland. It was ethnic violence pure and simple. This is Australia. Doesn't belong here.

Your biggest rival is the Serbs. Biggest rival club was JUST in Melb's case and I'm sure there are now smaller league equivelants. There certaintly was in Sydney. Remember, it was Melb Croatia that got disqualified from all football competition and as a club from the VSF in the 60's and never returned until the 70's. Why, because of their violent behaviour. Fans stabbing of police horse at Olympoic Park, massive injuries and complete carnage. Not because of throwing of some flares as one eyed Ben would suggest. Edited by paulc: 14/4/2012 03:30:11 PM

The club was started by Croatian migrants over 50 years ago. We're not the only football club in the world that was started by migrants. Seems to only be a problem in the most 'multicultural and tolerant' country in the world

Some of the people on here have some strange problems with non anglos. Just saying it how I see it.
Have the people doing the whinging actually gone up to the Edsor Park or Komiti (spelling) boys, astounded them with their love of the club and knowledge of the clubs history only to be turned away when asked where there grandparents are from? :-k

Well lets fuck off Brisbane Roar then after all they were originally called Hollandia-Inala Soccer Club, created by Dutch immigrants and still play in Dutch colours.

I parked the car and walked towards to ticket gate, passing the social clubs full of Croatians with exclusive Croatian music. I had to wait to pay for my ticket becuase the attendent was busy speaking speaking to someone else in Croation. I enterered the ground and saw signage of Croatian gyprockers, two bob real estate agents and builders. I was handed a calandar. And guess what. exclusively in Croatian. People next to me, talking in Croatian. So I sat to watch the game and then comes the ethnic chants including, Cro-art-tzi-ar, Cro-art-tzi-ar. Yep. I felt really at home. Now you shou go go home and fuck your father's donkey for telling you porkies.

Clubs may have been aligned on an ethnic basis - but Greeks didn't fight with Croats because they were Croats, they fought with them because they supported another club. Same as Victory fans will fight with Adelaide or Sydney, given the chance. The lack of trouble these days is more down to improved security than a lack of ethnic tension.

Ah, so, because you had issues at a game in the 80s, these problems MUST still exist in football today - because no one has moved forward in that time? As for people speaking Croatian - I'd rather that than the fine example of English in your closing comment. Edited by Benjamin: 14/4/2012 04:12:59 PM

Yes he did, and I completely agree with him. It is time to move on, but that doesn't mean it is ok to constantly heap shit on these clubs who did more for football in this country than most people. Seriously, threads like this are created, people line up to take shots at these clubs and then people act shocked and all angry when the supporters of these clubs fire back.

You sound like a fucking idiot denying it and thinking its perfectly acceptable having clubs based on ethnic crap rather then there location IN AUSTRALIA. The club plays in its original colours. Why shouldnt we? We've been playing in the same colours since 1958. If Glory decided to play next season in green you and most fans would probably be up in arms Majority of our fans have Croatian heritage? Shock-horror. Thanks Einstein.... and this excludes other people how? About half our first team squad is Croatian. Again, how does this exclude anyone? I was looking at our youth team squads last week and you would have been lucky to find more than 2/3 Croatian names per age group. You're stuck in the 1960s with everyone else. I should point out that I do not want my club in the A-League. We dont want to be there and we never will... but the ignorance displayed by some on here is astounding

Yes im sure roar supporters r all dutch. Is that the same Bozza, a man of Croatian heritage, who was welcomed onto the board at Sydney Olympic? Surely with all this ethnic tension around no Greek club would ever have a man of Croatian heritage in a position of power? If so, his point (made several times over the last couple of years) is that we aren't Greek or Croatian or Italian clubs anymore - we are Australian clubs.
