No, but it adds up and takes the cost off the guys spending the bigger $$$ on it. Look, I'm not saying I know how its all payed for, which is why I asked for some evidence for the club paying for it. From what I've seen/heard/read, the tifos are all paid for via fan dollars. Whether that's Cove merchandise or donations or any other avenue the fund makes it money.

What is happening to the Suncorp playing surface?

One thing that has surprised me is that I've never seen the AAMI Park pitch not be in perfect condition. This is despite having heavy traffic with 4 professional rugby/football clubs playing there all year around.

Also the size of AAMI Park is perfect size for the A-League, the only thing it's not big enough for is Grand Finals and World Cup Qualifiers.

The club doesn't fund the tifos. WTF are you guys on about?

Pretty much the only thing Tunna could say in defence of the Vucktree.

Usually it's pretty decent but I think they were a bit lazy this week. Because they have a big weekend ahead of them.

I do agree with some above posts. There is more to support than just noise. I will give credit where due, Sydney displays have been fantastic the last couple of years. The only thin I question is payment if someone can actually clear that up? Any club involvement make your contribution irrelevant IMO. Also credit melbourne, more vocally an mentally above the rest. The culture seems to be more instilled at victory than other clubs, good focus on quality of active support too rather than pure numbers.

As for stadia. I went to the aami park game and it was phenomenal, will definately go back. Although I do question whether the size is already or will halt the growth of the victory? IMO it would be the ideal size for a city based stadia in Adelaide ( one day my dreams will come true) but I would have thought somethig 40-45k would have been much more suitable in melbourne

i dont think anyone doubts melbourne victory has the best supporters/atmosphere in the a-league its just people dont like to admit it because they are arrogant pricks and the last thing they need is an ego boost

If its raining at AAMI then about 2/3's of the seats get wet, because of the roof design and steep angle of the seats. Supporters know this, which is one reason why attendances drop dramatically if rain is forecast.

And I'm not convinced about the surface either. In summer it looks very hard, this season they cut the grass low, so what you end up seeing is the ball picking up speed along the ground and too many passes end up looking over hit, when they're not. If you have a look at some of the best pitches in Europe, the grass is lusher, and the ball slows down giving the players a chance to run onto it.

So, you're suggesting the professional players - who actually stroke the ball around on that pitch - are talking rubbish and your vision from the stands gives you a better appreciation for the quality of the surface.

The pitch is flat, no questions there, but this season it was a faster surface than last. I judge from all the games I've watched at pitch level where the ball just keeps going and going, it never holds up, especially lofted passes. Especially day games.

If it was your home ground you'd be there enough to notice it too, but since you only play there on the odd occasion these days........:lol:


Actually I have: my son's high school rugby union team played there. But that was the previous season.

I agree. It gives passes that "zip" but the ball slows down on longer or lofted passes for players to run on to. They did that in the first season, but I haven't seen them do it since.

I'm pretty sure they still water AAMI...

Wrong again, all of level 3 is under cover, 2/3's if not 3/4's of South and North stands are also under cover, only level 1 on the wings and the several front rows of the goal ends get wet. About 20,000 seats are under cover, the other 10,000 exposed to the wet.

You're full of it mate, have you ever attended a match during the rain? You seem to be an expert on the surface yet you've never played on it (my son played rugby on it once) does not count :lol:

They wet the grass with sprinklers before every game, the surface is smooth, lush and slick, it is very consistent, compare that to the bumpy surfaces of many other grounds where the ball constantly bobbles while along the ground and you'll understand why the players have voted it the best surface of 2011/2012.

You're a dickhead or never been there in the rain. Everyone on the bottom tier gets wet. I don't give a shit if its "under cover". The wind swirls and the middle tier cops it as well. I was in tier three for one of the derbies and we coped drizzle at that level as well.



I can see how the ball moved this season compared to last. I don't need to play on it to see the movement of the ball. It was a fast surface this season. Count the number of balls that hit the turf and just keep rolling over the goal line. I know these are A-League players but the ball keeps its speed.



I haven't seen them wet it this season. Maybe before I get there, don't know, but the ball doesn't zip through like last season. And its not as lush as the first season.

And I said the the surface is flat, no arguments there.
