Pfft we don't need results we will still claim to be the biggest if we finish 8th

Fixed :D

As for the whole discussion on the rain, I've been unaffected in two seasons at AAMI. I sit on level one and haven't had to move much to get out of the rain. Hell, I can move just a few rows up and I can stay pretty dry.

Which is why my wife and I elected to switch our reserve seats from the east side to the west side. The direction of the wind from the south west corner tends to drive the rain across the ground in a diagonal direction, leaving most west side seats nice and dry.

I've been a member with allocated seat at the bottom Level on the East side for the last 2 years, plus watched about 5 games at the 3rd Level and that's my experience:

The East side cops more with the rain than the other parts of the stadium.

Usually because of the wind + rain, all the Level 1 gets wet. Including the seats at the back row on the East side.

When it's raining the West side hardly gets wet, both Level 1 and 3.

Can confirm that I haven't been effected by rain in the first season at AAMI whilst I was on the wings (Level 1) and last season at North End.

I'll leave that open to interpretation.

The real total capacity without rounding off is 30,050, so 50 off ;)

Do you read what's posted? All AAMI derbies I've been to have been level 3 because I bring several people with me. Yes the wind can catch the rain and blow it in your face, even up high in level 3.

And yes I have seen the sprinklers on ~20 minutes before the game for just about every MV game, unless the surface is already wet from prior rain and in that case it drains superbly.

OK I'll take your word for it. I don't get there that early.

Were you at Australia vs Saudi Arabia? It rained all game and I barely noticed it, 25,000 people.

No I wasn't. Good for you in level 3. Ask levels 1 and 2 about it. When it rains everyone in level is getting the hell out of there, if they have somewhere to go..

I could see level 1 on the sides were soaked in rain but the majority of the North and South Stands which are also on level 1 were under cover, Level 2 is so minor that it only holds 1000 people, you're arguing that the majority of the stadium is exposed to rain and I'm arguing based on experience that what you say is simply not true.

At a guess I estimate that 20,000 seats are undercover during rain, 10,000 are exposed, you were saying that only 10,000 are undercover, which is not true.

And I'm not convinced about the surface either. In summer it looks very hard, this season they cut the grass low, so what you end up seeing is the ball picking up speed along the ground and too many passes end up looking over hit, when they're not. If you have a look at some of the best pitches in Europe, the grass is lusher, and the ball slows down giving the players a chance to run onto it.

Wrong again, all of level 3 is under cover, 2/3's if not 3/4's of South and North stands are also under cover, only level 1 on the wings and the several front rows of the goal ends get wet. About 20,000 seats are under cover, the other 10,000 exposed to the wet.

You're a dickhead or never been there in the rain. Everyone on the bottom tier gets wet. I don't give a shit if its "under cover". The wind swirls and the middle tier cops it as well. I was in tier three for one of the derbies and we coped drizzle at that level as well.

Quote:

You're full of it mate, have you ever attended a match during the rain? You seem to be an expert on the surface yet you've never played on it (my son played rugby on it once) does not count

I can see how the ball moved this season compared to last. I don't need to play on it to see the movement of the ball. It was a fast surface this season. Count the number of balls that hit the turf and just keep rolling over the goal line. I know these are A-League players but the ball keeps its speed.

Quote:

They wet the grass before every game, the surface is smooth, lush and slick, it is very consistent, compare that to the bumpy surfaces of many other grounds where the ball constantly bobbles while along the ground and you'll understand why the players have voted it the best surface of 2011/2012.

I haven't seen them wet it this season. Maybe before I get there, don't know, but the ball doesn't zip through like last season. And its not as lush as the first season.

And I said the the surface is flat, no arguments there.

So, you're suggesting the professional players - who actually stroke the ball around on that pitch - are talking rubbish and your vision from the stands gives you a better appreciation for the quality of the surface.

Yep I am suggesting exactly that. :d

The pitch is flat, no questions there, but this season it was a faster surface than last. I judge from all the games I've watched at pitch level where the ball just keeps going and going, it never holds up, especially lofted passes. Especially day games.

If it was your home ground you'd be there enough to notice it too, but since you only play there on the odd occasion these days........

Am I right to assume you've never set foot on the AAMI Park playing surface, let alone kicked a ball out there?

Actually I have: my son's high school rugby union team played there. But that was the previous season.

maybe they should water it 20 minutes before kick off?

I agree. It gives passes that "zip" but the ball slows down on longer or lofted passes for players to run on to. They did that in the first season, but I haven't seen them do it since.

[quote] Tennenini accepted the award on behalf of the Victory fans and couldn't resist the temptation to have a quick jibe at Colosimo's Heart.

"I want to thank all Melbourne Victory supporters I think we've been by far the benchmark over the seven seasons of A-League football," Tennenini said.

"Their (Heart's) average attendance is second or third in the league but you take away those derbies and they're right down the bottom."

...And I'm not convinced about the surface either.

So, you're suggesting the professional players - who actually stroke the ball around on that pitch - are talking rubbish and your vision from the stands gives you a better appreciation for the quality of the surface.

Am I right to assume you've never set foot on the AAMI Park playing surface, let alone kicked a ball out there?

i dont think anyone doubts melbourne victory has the best supporters/atmosphere in the a-league its just people dont like to admit it because they are arrogant pricks and the last thing they need is an ego boost

Would it be fair to say that Roar fans are following in the footsteps?
no.
