Playing one of television's most hated villains has taken its toll on 21-year-old Irish actor Jack Gleeson, otherwise known as King Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones.
The young star spoke on Ireland's Saturday Night Show of his plans to leave acting when the popular HBO fantasy series wraps. Watch his revelation above.
"For my whole life, I have wanted to become an actor and it's just the last few years I've started to change my mind about it, so I'm liable to change," Jack told host Brendan O'Connor.
"It was a recreation beforehand and when I started doing Game of Thrones there was, I wouldn't say pressure, but perhaps the reality became too real for me... the lifestyle that comes with being an actor in a successful TV show isn't something I gravitate towards."
So what does Jack want to do instead of GOT? Well, he studies philosophy and theology at Trinity College, Dublin, and recently visited Haiti with aid agency GOAL.
"Since going to Trinity and garnering an interest in philosophy and with GOAL and my theatre company [Dublin's Collapsing Horse], I've kind of just re-evaluated what I want to do," he said.
As for when we'll say our final goodbye to spine-chilling Joffrey, fans of George R R Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books upon which GOT is based will know the answer to that.
Season four airs in 2014, covering the latter half of the third book, A Storm of Swords. The series may go to seven seasons, one of the show's producers told Radio Times earlier this year.

Seven series probably covers all the books that have been released up to now without including adapting Winds of Winter and what ever books come after it. A Feast of Crows probably contains 1 seasons worth of material while A Dance with Dragons is the longest book yet so probably will need two seasons.

He's been very upfront in that he's in his mid 60's and fat, hence the only people he revealed his planned storyline for the series to are the showrunners for the series.

The rest are pretty likeable. I definitely warmed to Jamie's character in the third season. I think you start to see that he's just an ordinary solider, who is forced to live up to the Lannister's name. He isn't exactly in favour of his title, either.

In book 3 (I believe) Jaime becomes a POV character and the reader gets an insight into his head and his motivations. That scene in the bath with Brienne was pretty much exactly the same in the book and really gave an insight into his mind. What do you do? Stand idly by protecting a mad king as the city is getting invaded? Or do you take matters into your own hands and kill the tyrant and protect the people? Either way, he was going to be scrutinised about his decision. His character growth after his hand got chopped off is pretty damn awesome too. He was the best swordsman in the 5 kingdoms. His right hand was essentially him. And now its gone. Now what? (we'll see more of this in S4 I guess) He is an awesome character but everyone I spoke to during Season 1 didn't believe me and hated him :lol:
