433
So you would rather squeeze it in the last 2 minutes of an already action packed episode? However I do agree that they could have cut some of the pointless crap between Aemon and Sam at the beginning. Overall the episode shows that what the Night's Watch pulled off and rather than having the Mannis immediately take away from that. Some of the filming work was brilliant that panorama was fantasic and the whole thing was extremely well done down to the giants and the mammoths. Odds are the first shot of episode 10 will be Jon going out to meet Mance and then the triumphant entry of the Mannis. Followed by the shitstorm of other fantastic things that happen in that episode culminating with Lady Stoneheart and then fade to black.
Overall I was happy. Wouldn't have minded seeing Grenn and co taking on Mag the Mighty though.
Stannis is the rightful and just king, but D&D portray him as a c*nt
@YerNathanael
I don't know if you know this, but they're actually extending the final to 66 mins or something. They could have easily extended this episode another 5 mins and cut out all the Gilly/Sam/Aemon crap out. They would have had ample time for the Mannis.
Instead, we're going to see it chocked into an already action packed episode and it won't be remembered. There will be so much memorable shit next episode (I believe it will be the best ever), and no one is going to care about a 30 second cavalry charge with all that's going on.
This was Stannis's moment, and they've fucked it up horrendously
.

I just can't see how they'd get away with it, not with how they have taken so many bits from books 4/5 already this season. -PB

Can't help but feel that Sam/Aemon was in there purely to remind people he's a Targaryen

It would be fucking great if you guys who have read the books would say so when your posting fucking spoilers. If you just black up your text when discussing an ep the first port of call is to presume you just talking about that episode not what is coming in the future.

sydneycroatia58 wrote:Can't help but feel that Sam/Aemon was in there purely to remind people he's a Targaryen I think its important in the context, because if Im mistaken he was offered the job to be King and if he took up that job we might not see the bad shit thats happened in the past up until now, because he seemed like a pretty good natured person as opposed to Aerys (Dany's old man) who eventually went mad and wanted to burn the place down.

Why doesn't someone run a sword through that fat pudding on the wall with the adopted kid? Surely the most annoying character on that show?

Sam can suck it. That episode, whilst full of blood and gore which is always a winner, shat me when I thought about it later. Here's a bunch of blokes, sentenced to spend their lives on the wall, ostensibly to protect the Kingdom, and only a handful know how to fight? WTF? I mean, fair enough, they're reprobates and exiles who had no choice but surely there'd be a system in place to get them up to speed in case, I don't know, the whole of your civilisation depended on them! Glad the ginger sheila copped it. Managed to get out an internet meme too before she karked it. Edited by munrubenmuz: 11/6/2014 03:00:19 PM

I think the whole idea is that it's been that long since the last winter, and since the wall was in genuine need of defending that the populace became complacent. There are several references to the Nightwatch number dwindling over time.

The whole series has the Nights Watch complaining about being horribly undermanned and having not enough men to even run the 3 castles remaining manned let alone the 18(?) needed to properly maintain and defend the wall.

Edited by munrubenmuz: 11/6/2014 03:00:19 PM You know nothing munrubenmuz. ;) The wall was originally built to defend the realm from the others. It was a place of honour for men to give up their lives to defend the realm. but over the past 400 years with no attacks from the others and the Wildlings moving beyond the wall to be Free, the Night's watch became a place for men to save their necks and a place for the exiles and unwanted. now with a winter rising the others and a Night's watch dwindled they can only get what the Dungeons of Westeros can give them and the lives of the desperate. The Wall is seen as a tradition of the old world and all have become green with the pleasures of the Summers. The Histories of Westeros that RR Martin is releasing soon will cover the full back story.

I love the guy...but I'm really surprised he's not dead already. The guy has about 9 lives on the show. :lol:
