Just finished 8 and all I can say is HOLY FUCKING SHIT. If they somehow manage to top that in Episode 9, my fucking god.

I know this season has been pretty divisive at times but I'm absolutely loving the direction it's taken tbh, the last two episode have been amongst the shows best.

Now without you guys spoiling anything if it hasn't been answered,
am I missing/forgetting something in the show as to how Jon was able to kill the white walker with his sword
?

Odds that young kid tries to shank Jon Snow when he gets back?
Be fucking sick if he teams up with zombie god and they fight Imp/Dany for the throne in the end (fuck all that R+L=J shit).

Edited by jlm8695: 1/6/2015 10:33:27 PM FWIW it sounds like the show has massively deviated from the books at this point. Im pretty sure its that special steel that Ned Starks sword was made from (now Jamie's) from where the Targeryans are from... which makes its a dragon sword or some shit I assume? The number of times they dropped "dragon glass" references makes me think its something along those lines.

The point was that they've now discovered another way to defeat the White walkers.

Other than that we don't know anything as to how it was made as that info was lost in the Doom of Valyria

Edited by jlm8695: 1/6/2015 10:33:27 PM In the books Sam tells Jon that in the archives he had been reading he read that when the White Walkers first came there was a hero who wielded a sword made with "dragon steel" that could kill the Walkers. Jon thinks that dragon steel is actually valyrian steel. The show just confirmed it and we are now officially past the books in many regards.

The last 20 minutes made the first 40 so insignificant its not even funny  going off next week's preview it looks like next week will have
the huge attack on the fighting pit that was being flogged before the season started
then shit has well and truly kicked off everywhere, my fear is that none of the plotlines finish this season

Pretty great how we've gone from the stuff in the north sometimes being a chore to get through, to now where it's the focal point of the show
Thinking about yesterdays ep and it's not just the best of this season but imo one of the best of the series. They couldn't have dealt with that final battle any better, there was plenty of time for them to cut away from the battle and go to another scene but they just stuck with it and allowed the dread to just continue to grow.

Edited by jlm8695: 1/6/2015 10:33:27 PM The basic notion is that only dragons (or the product of dragons, or the house of dragons, etc.) can kill white-walkers. Mother of dragons-John Snow. Fire and Ice. Two most important elements of the story. There's a distinct probability that the story will end with the dragons burning the crap out of the army of the dead.
