Eiffel tower evacuated: 1,500 evacuated, ‘Hundreds forced to flee the tower’

EIFFEL TOWER EVACUATEDMARCH 31, 2013BY: TINA BURGESSSubscribe

The Eiffel tower was evacuated shortly after 7.30 p.m. on Saturday and according to the below news video report, “hundreds [were] forced to flee the tower." Overall, 1,500 people including tourists and staff were escorted from France’s 1,050-foot-tall iron lattice tower that was built for the 1889 World’s Fair. The evacuation of the Eiffel tower occurred after police received an anonymous phone call from a phone booth in a Paris suburb, reported Mail Online on March 30, 2013.

The anonymous terrorist phone call came after threats had been made previously by Al-Qaeda who swore to retaliate for France’s intervention and fight against Islamic terrorist groups in Mali, Africa.

Eiffel tower evacuated: 1,500 evacuated, ‘Hundreds forced to flee the tower’
The anonymous phone call that prompted the evacuation of the Eiffel tower said that explosives had been placed around the tower and that the explosives would go off at 9:30 p.m.

After the phone call, the Eiffel tower was immediately evacuated and trained bomb explosive sniffer dogs searched the Eiffel tower and the area surrounding it.

When nothing had happened by 10 p.m., police thought the phone call might have been fake.

As a matter of precaution, however, the Eiffel tower remains closed to the public and police officers are standing guard. No one is allowed in or near the Eiffel tower.

The Eiffel tower “is the most visited paid-for monument in the world, with some 7million people a year going up it.”

While the Eiffel tower is usually open on Easter weekend until midnight, it has not yet been determined when the Eiffel tower will reopen after Saturday’s evacuation.

It's not the first time there's been a threat to Paris in recent times from Islamic Extremists. Wouldn't be surprised if France is the next major European country hit with a massive Terroist Attack.

Well they upset the Muslims after attacking the Al Qaida regime in Mali. They must be punished.

That's like saying invading Iraq made the US a terror target.

The French have always played footsies with the Arabs which is why they've been left unbombed. Good to see them grow some cojones and get rid of a regime that was torturing and killing people in Mali. It's very much unlike the French to give a hoot about someone else's misery. The last time they did that with any seriousness was in in the late 1700's, and even then they were helping the young US democracy largely for their own political gain.

The situation with North Korea is getting graver and graver with each passing day. Overnight, several things have happened:

- North Korea has formally approved a Nuclear Strike on the United States.
- North Korea has closed the industrial plant just over the border in North Korea and stopped South Koreans from working there.
- America is moving THAAD air-defence missiles into place in South Korea
- America has sent two destroyers including the USS John McCain to Patrol S.Korean waters.

The next month is going to be very, very interesting.

I've read 7 different news sources, all saying the threat came from an "anonymous source".

Zero confirmation it was Islamists, as likely as it is that it was.

I don't think anyone can afford to take NK lightly but I still see the pattern continuing -NK pushing the West's buttons (with China's tacit approval) until they get what they want -ie, more money.

It also must be remembered that the new NK leader is young and probably trying to big note himself as a serious player rather than a lightweight.

It is terrible that Seoul is easily within missile range from NK but I don't think giving in once again is the way to go - NK needs to be put back in its box through further sanctions and pressure. US must not fire first but be ready to unleash hell if NK attack.

I also hope SK has the kind of Iron Dome defence shield that helped Israel against the Arabs. NK's is a much bigger missile threat though.

The real problem is that North Korea have the worlds largest artillery force and well over 10,000 of them are aimed at Seoul which has a metro population of 25 million. Plus North have a million most likely fanatical soliders ready to come through war tunnels across the border.

I think people overestimate the fanaticism of the North Korean populace/army.

Once the hierarchy crumbles, I'd wager that the North Korean people will embrace liberation with open arms.

Given the speed of this arms race I'd say there will be some kind of instigation of conflict within a fortnight. The sooner this is over, the better.

There's a pretty deep hierarchy going on in their leading figures. The fanaticism of the brainwashed masses there will inevitably see them support and die for whoever they're told to.

I was reading that on BBC last night. There are some reports that it may just be for a new test. That said, when they shut down Kaesong, it does set off alarm bells.

You have to ask yourself; exactly how deranged IS Kim Jong Un that he thinks he can take on the entire world? When Fidel Castro is telling you to calm the fuck down, it's probably time to pack it in.

One thing that was interesting in the recent NK statement was their emphasis on diversified methods of delivery, re a nuclear strike. Not something that was picked up on all that much in the commentary.

So whats stopping them from loading some anonymous shipping container(s) with a device and having them sitting in a variety of US or other ports? Sort of as a backup in case the US or allies choose to preemptively strike NK, as they have done in recent years. NK know this strategy is now in play remember. (Which also opens the door to them using it too.)

With the amount of loose nukes around it is theoretically possible for something to be bought on the blackmarket and shipped around the world without ever having even been on NK soil. The focus on their missile range or capability is only one part of the picture, i fear. It certainly adds another dimension to any plans to hit them before they hit anyone else.

The other possibility is an EMP attack which does not even need to reach US mainland to be effective. Can even be launched from satellite apparently, perhaps from the research one NK launched recently.

lol.

If NK launches a missile people will die and the US will strike back.

They will surgically strike military compounds, their power grid and wherever senior leadership is held up.

That Satellite will drop from the sky, don't even think for a second that it can launch as something as great as an EMP attack, this isn't Goldeneye ffs.

America/SK will sit back and press buttons to end this war before occupancy forces take heart in Pyongyang.

This isn't Iraq, they have nothing to gain from an invasion other then a foothold at the door of China.

I feel sorry for those in NK the most as they have no idea what their leadership is getting them in to.

This week's episode involved driving through Vietnam and Lao

And in Lao there was a section of road the drivers on the show went through (the Ho Chi Minh trail) with Unexploded Bombs

The defusers dont know exactly, how many UXBs there are still there

But how did they get so many bombs there in the first place?

PS World's Most Dangerous Roads is a pretty awesome series on SBS

North Korea warns it can't protect embassies
Date
April 6, 2013 - 11:14AM

North Korea says it can't assure the safety of embassies in Pyongyang after April 10, and is urging Britain, Russia and other European nations to evacuate diplomatic staff amid soaring nuclear tensions.

Countries across Europe on Friday reported receiving a letter suggesting they pull out of Pyongyang, as an increasingly bellicose North Korea moved two mid-range missiles to its east coast.

"Their communication said that from April 10, the North Korean government would be unable to guarantee the safety of embassies and international organisations in the country in the event of conflict," a spokeswoman for Britain's Foreign Office said.

"Our understanding is that the North Koreans were asking whether embassies are intending to leave, rather than advising them to leave."

Britain was considering its next steps, she said, while reminding North Korea of its responsibilities under the Vienna Convention to protect diplomatic missions.

Russia, which has relatively close ties with North Korea, also received the missive.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was in close contact with its partners including China over the suggestion.

"The suggestion was made to all embassies in Pyongyang and we are trying to clarify the situation," Russian news agencies quoted Lavrov as saying on a visit to Uzbekistan.

"We are in close contact with our Chinese partners as well as the Americans", and all participants in the frozen six-party talks process seeking peace on the peninsula, he added.

He said there were "many factors" that needed clarification.

The spokesman of the Russian embassy in Pyongyang, Denis Samsonov, told Russian news agencies a representative of the North Korean foreign ministry "suggested that the Russian side examine the question of evacuating the employees of the Russian embassy".

He said the mission had taken note of the information and was working normally.

"We are currently in the process of taking the decision," said Samsonov, adding that the current situation in Pyongyang was "absolutely peaceful".

A Russian foreign ministry source was quoted as saying by the Interfax and RIA Novosti news agencies that the security of Russian citizens was the priority in the taking of any decision.

"Unfortunately, the situation (on the Korean peninsula) is not developing in the way that we would like. For us the security of our citizens is the priority," said the unnamed source.

In Sofia, a foreign ministry spokesman said North Korea has sent letters to Bulgaria and other EU countries telling them to consider pulling their diplomatic staff from Pyongyang for security reasons.

"Yes, we - along with other EU member states - have received such a letter signed by a deputy foreign minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Dimitar Yaprakov told AFP.

He said all foreign ambassadors had been summoned by Pyongyang's foreign ministry "telling them that it was ready to assist them if they wanted to evacuate their missions".

"The chiefs of EU missions to Pyongyang are meeting tomorrow there to discuss a common position and common action," he added.

The Czech foreign ministry also confirmed receiving the statement.
