Iraq has requested American support, in the form of Air Strikes to help combat this ISIL/S offensive in Northern Iraq. The UNSC has also had a meeting to discuss the latest events. Apparently they've now taken Tikrit. If ISIL get any closer to Baghdad, wouldn't be surprised if we see drone strikes in Iraq before the end of the month.

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/rare-miracle-conjoined-twins-faith-and-hope-pass-away/story-fneuzlbd-1226933135129This is a bit of an old story *in the same tone of "I dont mean to be a racist but" * I dont mean to be a eugenicist but: Why did those 'parents', who look like they could be more closely related than cousins choose to go to term on conjoined twins when the possibility of them surviving was (not "virtually") zero

Rolf Harris was Australia's Under-18 backstroke champion in the 1940s.
By the 1970s he had moved on to the Under-14 Breaststroke.

Some things about Harris's trial don't sit well with me.
They say the trial turned when he agreed with the prosecutor that when he complimented a 13 year girl that she looked good in bathing suite that he might have meant she looked good in a sexual way. Thinking and saying it is not the same as doing it, but thats how the Court took it.
There was also the fact that much of the evidence when taken individually amounted to "he said/she said", and in other circumstances would be considered weak evidence, were it not for the fact that several witnesses were saying the same thing. So if several people say the same thing, however unsubstantiated, makes the evidence "fact". Not sure about that.
The other critical moment was when the prosecution rolled out evidence that contradicted Harris statement that he wasn't in some part of country Australia 50 years ago. This was supposed to verify that Harris was a liar. So now if an 84 year old can't remember if he was in one of many obscure country towns 50 years ago, he's a liar?
And then there's so many others coming out many years after the fact claiming harrassment that can't be independently verified, one back-up singer in particular, was rejected by her co-singers that she sought support from.
He has been found guilty, but I wonder how much the rules of evidence and due process have been bent because of Jimmy Savile?

I'll admit that I haven't followed the case all that closely, but my understanding is that a lot of the evidence was individually corroborated by many without knowledge of the other witnesses experiences.

Mirrors my thoughts, it seems a little bit like lets get Jimmy through Rolf, the evidence presented that we are aware of seems a little light weight...having said that sexual abuse is abhorrent and cant be accepted under an circumstances...but does pinching someone on the bum constitute sexual assault.

I'm the same. Perhaps Rolf was a bit of a sleeze, but a shred of evidence would be nice! To me, it sounds like they had a dumb jury who just thought that so many accusations meant it had to be true. Sometimes I really, really hate democratic processes. They give dumb people far too much power. Edited by eastern glory: 4/7/2014 06:26:59 PM

It shouldn't. But if you have anything of value to lose, you'd be crazy to do it. There was a radio announcer today claiming Harris put his hand on her thigh, years ago. She told him to stop, and he did. Now says she wants him to die in jail.....1 week ago she would never even have dreamed of going public for fear of being sued for defamation. Today, it gets published in The Age without any fear because Harris is in no position to defend himself against her accusations. Again, there is something wrong about this. They're talking about Harris getting 2 years for each guilty count-thats 24 years!
