This is Chelsea (team) number 59 is a good team game and a precursor number 16 game in Dutch Ajax Sessions in the same Academy Sessions thread sticky, sent up by Dirk.

I like to set this exercise up as a passing game as listed in instruction 1. I like 4v4 to provide width and depth.

I set the small gates up in a diamond shape. Sometimes have a fifth gate in the middle too. Players learn to with play quickly and cover a lot of ground. They also learn to open passing lanes. it is important for the players off the ball to keep eye contact with the player in possession at all times. This is is a great fitness exercise too.

I did a more complex version with Phil Moss, Central Coast Mariners' assistance coach to Graham Arnold, like Dutch Ajax drill 16. Arnold learnt it from Hiddink and Verbeek. They did this a lot with the Socceroos.

Again many thanks to Dirk. The Chelsea, Dutch Ajax and Arsenal sessions are the real deal. These are what the top pro coaches use. I've sent them to a numer of FFA staff coaches, a US college coach, rep coaches, club TDs, spilt state league senior coaches. it seems all are impressed.:)

I've found many uncoached, but skilful, refugee players take too long on the ball. These three academies assist players in moving the ball more quickly. You cannot go wrong with them. One thing i add his that players much all ways do stationary techniques if standing in a queue.
Also, make players perform specific dribbling exercises back to the beginning markers if they've shot for goal in shooting exercises.

Have used the gates game as part of a session for u9 and u11, setup main field 32 x24 with 2 end zones 8x24, on the main pitch setup 7 cone gates .
Warm up, players each with ball dribble thru gates in 90 secs, then driblle with weaker foot only for 90 secs, sribble with any foot and perform turn at a gates.
1/3 of players stand in gates whilst others dribble and pass 1-2 with gate players, change gate players , then move onto pass to player in gate who turns with ball and is replaced by passer.

Then took a SAP shooting game and reversed it , so that it had 4 defenders against 8 players , the 4 defenders cant pass but have to win ball and shoot in any of 4 popup goals in the middle of each side of the main field , the 8 have to maintain possession and get a point for passing to team mate thru gate. Changed to 3 defenders as they were too successful in winning the ball. Change the defenders around.

Removed cones in main field.

Moved onto passing to target player in end zone, one team had 2 target players to make it 4 v4 on main field. Target on receiving ball passes to the other team to start the play towards their target player.

Finsihed with 6 v 5 on all the pitch with the team of 6 with keeper in one big goal against 5 who defend 2 small goals .

U9 just the same apart from last game was 5 v 5 on main pitch with 2 small goals at each end.

Europe is funding the war not Chelsea football club

Sounds interesting, Dirk.

How did you evaluate it's success?

With the team of five did you specify a diamond with a dot for the shape?
