Kruse runs into the box on the counter, fouled, penalty won.

1-0 Dusseldorf

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

The Leckie goal was fantastic. More of the same please. He should have won a penalty too!

Watched a fair bit of the FC Utrecht-FC Twente game. Oar looked lively, in an otherwise underwhelming game from both sides. It is pretty obvious that he is their go to man, and was playing in the classic number 10 role for the last half an hour. Looked better there, had a few attempts on goal and was one of the better players. And obviously had an assist for Utrecht's goal. Zullo came on in the 64th minute in the left wing role, and I was fairly impressed with him. Had a few nice crosses, and a couple of nice link up plays with Oar. Would still like to see him and Davidson stake their claim for the national team's LB spot. With those two, along with Behich and Lowry, I think that problematic position is not so much that anymore. Holger must give them a go though, and not opt for the conservative options of Matt McKay, David Carney or Michael Thwaite.

Watched the same game, and found Utrecht very underwhelming - very much Route 1 stuff to two big strikers up front or into the channels. The midfield, Oar included, had to feed off scraps and second and third balls.

Not sure I'd describe Oar as their "go to man" - he hardly got the ball, it was like watching Nicky Carle crane his neck for ninety minutes at Crystal Palace. He is definitely their dead ball specialist and that's something he can bring to the NT. Wilkshire and Bresciano are not in the same class of dead ball delivery, he'd probably be our best dead ball exponent of the past 20 years at least (better than Boutsi even).

When he did get the ball he was decent without being phenomenal, took a few reasonable looking shots from long range which he obviously has the license to take and played a few decent looking through balls. He is looking more calm and assured on the ball, and IMO is ready for the Socceroo first 11.

When Zullo came on he looked OK and got involved a fair bit (playing LM) but in a side that bangs it long almost the entire time he spent most of his half hour running up and down. A couple of decent looking crosses on the ground. It didn;t help that the LB behind him kept hitting 60 yard balls up the park when Zullo was free for a short pass.

Zullo looks like he isn't back to full pace yet - another few games and he might get there.

That's my take on it.

The thing about Oar so far is, he may not always be very involved or a very tidy player... but he seems to ALWAYS be involved in the goals. Be it a set piece delivery, a cross or a through ball. He always comes up with a game changing moment of brilliance.

if he improves his defence and generates a few turnovers he could play for one of the worlds great clubs

(Apparently) He came back to Brisbane:
a) to attend his grandfather's funeral; and/or,
b) to recover from a knee injury.

happy yonder Inman and Good going out on loan. would have liked both to go to a league higher than they did, Newcastle have had injuries at cb and have played players out of position over Good even in cup games so a loan it is best for him to go on loan. I think is is showing faith to send a player who has been at the club for such a short time to go on loan.

Inman seems to constantly score goals but last night 20 year old abeid was in the squad over him (may have been after the loan). I hope he does well to either become a squad player if one of their Senegalese strikers get sold or possible get a championship transfer. on Inman has he stated a stated an allegiance to us or Scotland

Mid table EPL clubs have very little respect for leagues outside of England. If they put a young kid out on loan 9 times out of 10 it's to another English club for a lower league hackfest. I think it's a terrible system.

Fantastic to see Kruse lift his game to the levels he has. Surprised a lot of people, but those in football circles had a lot of faith in his ability. Kudos
