Holman must've been frustrated. Should've had an assist but Benteke's shot was weak. Should've scored too.. he had acres of space in the box but Weimann put it in row Z instead of a simple pass.

He also had a top shot tipped into the bar by the keeper!

Some positive reviews from goal.com

Adam Federici
Looked superb under the high ball and made a great save to deny Benteke in the first half and enjoyed another solid evening for the Royals.

Brett Holman
The heartbeat of Villa’s attacking play, Holman covered virtually every blade of grass showing a superb range of passing that helped spark much of Villa’s forward movements before being taken off in the second half.

Fed's error did cost AV a goal though.

The villa forums are always a laugh.

"Holman MOTM. Superb. Should start ahead of so-and-so"

"Holman 5/10. Good work rate, can't pass. Squad player."

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Just watched the Dusseldorf - Dortmund game, a few impressions.

Dortmund were clearly the better side, and completely dominated the first half without creating a whole lot of chances. Their lead was well deserved though. Kruse, playing up front rather than out wide got few opportunities and when he did he tended to lose the ball quite a bit.

Second half Dusseldorf improved and played more football than in the first. The goal came from Dortmund turning over possession, Kruse managed to get back onside (he was offside a lot during the game) in time to get the ball, and, unmarked, put over a great cross for the finish.

Kruse did some other decent things with the ball but wasn't that much of a factor tbh. His workrate was excellent.

In a side that came to defend Kruse did a good job overall and was one of the very few Fortuna players who looked somewhat dangerous when they got the ball in attack. In a defensive team performance against a superior opponent I'd give him about a 7/10.

If he has a couple of seasons like the one he's started he could go to a bigger club IMO.

And his improvement is awesome for the NT, he is now one of our most influential players.

Thanks for summary, very interested to seeing Kruse develop. Wish we could see the Bundeslise (spelling sorry) here in OZ.

Kruse has injured himself in the warm up and won't play tonight against Frankfurt. He was originally up front but had to withdraw at the last minute. No news on what exactly happened but simply described as injured with muscle problems.

Scotty McDonald scored again in Middlesborough's 3-2 loss to Birmingham. Surely time for him to be considered for a Socceroos recall.

I've been looking at the stats for every Villa game that Holman plays in, and at the start of the season his passing stats were quite poor for him.
In the past few games his passing seems to have improved immensely. He was one of the worst passers earlier in the season, now he makes less passing mistakes than almost anyone in his team and is more involved. It looks like he's becoming well adapted the the EPL.

Herd still can't pass the ball for his life. Plays it long way too often and to little effect. Good ballwinner though and its great to see him back in the starting lineup.

Just saw highlights on the news of Federici. Let in four which was not his fault but then had a terrible moment where he tried to trick RVP only to give him the ball in an open goal but RVP misses.

Schwartzer also made a mistake over night to let in a goal.
