Quality first half on debut. Sion up 1-0.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Damian Fletcher just drifted in behind Jedinak to head in the equaliser. He's been solid mostly though as far as I can see. Keeping an eye on the Leyverkusen game in case Kruse comes on.

Vidosic played a full game in a 1-0 win (subbed off in injury time). Pretty good performance, very sloppy game though. They'll need to improve exponentially.

Davidson looking very comfortable at LB.

Bayer player Spahic (more like Spastic) charges in and gives away a penalty in the 81st minute, 2-0 now, which will surely dampen Kruse's chances of saving the day.

Full time, Bayer losing 2-0 and unfortunately Kruse getting not much of a chance to show what he can do. Surely there'll be more minutes for him yet though.

Watched the Leverkusen game. Kruse came on with 20min left. He did some good things. One moment was typical Robbie where he turned his marker and ran a good 20m with the ball in total free space, was a great move and got applause at the pub. He was constantly moving and making himself available. He lost the ball a few times and his crosses were generally blocked. Generally he showed that he likes to move into spaces and weave with the ball out wide which he did well. Sam is still ahead but Hyppia has to know that he has a very good replacement option.

The problem was that his teammates barely seem to want to include him in the game. The fittest player on the pitch and they kept the ball away from him, preferring to go to the left wing where the tired Son was. Son is a little selfish bastard and Kiessling only worries about himself. Kruse seems like a total outsider that isn't wanted by his manager or teammates. Leverkusen basically ruins a person each season and Kruse is the victim this time round.

Goal gave Jedi MOTM:

"A heel-biting, ground-gobbling monster in the middle of the pitch. Cut out passes, pounced on loose balls and threw himself into full-blooded tackles, and even got forward to spray shots towards goal"

Let's give Hyypia the benefit of the doubt at this stage. Kruse is still new to the team. The next few weeks will tell.

extended highlights for Davidsons game

The goal is at the very start, pretty simple finish but he reacted well and was in the right position.

You can also see how he makes runs, a lot more aggressive than I thought from that one friendly he played. He doesn't do much for the rest but you can see he puts in a pretty decent early cross at about 2:50

Why is Davidson not in the squad for Brazil? Perfect chance to test him out and give his club confidence a boost, Holger letting down young players very single time. There's also Lowry and Gulum, perfectly adequate left backs who don't have a cap, rather we got McKay who doesn't play there and Carney making a Lazarus type comeback. Fail Holger.

Awesome update! Good to see Bailey Wright bag a goal too.
Fingers crossed Scotty Mac can stay fit and bag so e goals this year. Injury has troubled him a lot since he moved to Borough.

Is anyone familiar with Kilkenny's circumstances at the moment? A play of his capability should not be left out of league 1 squads.

No the purpose is to develop the squad for the World Cup. What's the point In gauging how strong we are? The World Cup itself will determine that not a fucking friendly. We're less than a year out and we have a massive hole at left back, it just seems to me prudent to want to fill it. We have a guy playing regularly in the Eridivise and scoring goals who could potentially fill that hole, but no you want to leave it exposed and jeapordise our World Cup campaign because we're playing Brazil in a friendly. We've been infected by this same backward thought since the Asia cup, too afraid to trial and error becuase every game no matter friendly or whatever is so precious.

We're running out of time, we have a few games to get the squad and balance right and we can't be farting about "guaging how strong we are". Brazil won't hestitate throwing their B players out there, they're just treating it a practice and that's really all it iis.

Have to agree with rusty.

It's very strange, Holger has admitted just how problematic LB is at the moment yet he doesn't even include any in the squad to at least train with the rest of the Roos.. I'm at a loss to explain why anyone would take Holgers approach, but he's a dud so meh.

Totally agree with Rusty too. Most of the team picks itself with a reasonable blend of youth. We know that a number of the younger CB options are solid and playing regularly (ie McGowan, and Williams who is an experienced footballer now) so why not try an option at left back where we have a problem. He is playing regularly in a top Euro league. It is just plain strange, particularly when Cornthwaite is in the team. That is nothing against Cornflakes, but left back is a problem so something's got to give.

Vidosic got the assist for the goal in his game. took the corner which was headed in. It also looked like he was interviewed after the game but the video was area restricted.

Would you guys not rather test young guys against teams at more our own level?
Surely you test the best XI against the best side in the world to see where they are at!

Once we can gauge that, then we can work on confirming the other 12 players to integrate into the squad ect.

Kilkenny's situation reminds me of where Wilkshire was a few years ago. He was warming the pine in League 1 until Hiddink became NT coach and told him to get out and move to either Belgium or Netherlands. He ended up at Twente and did well there. I'm not saying Kilkenny is as good as Wilksire was but I think he's better suited on the continent than the english lower leagues. The difference is Wilkshire had a highly respected manager advocating for him. Kilkenny has no-one like that.
