Is anyone familiar with Kilkenny's circumstances at the moment? A play of his capability should not be left out of league 1 squads. Kilkenny is on the outer as he is the clubs top earner when he plays and technically doesn't suit there system. Last I heard they where trying to offload him to Yeovil who are now in the championship.

Once we can gauge that, then we can work on confirming the other 12 players to integrate into the squad ect.
Certainly, but Holger isn't doing that either. The Scotland game last year is a perfect example, or even the Romania game, where Holger still used Lucas knowing he was suspended for the following WCQ. My previous post was that Holger continuously overlooks all other LB options from his squad. How can we integrate players if there never included, especially at our problem LB.

For once I'd have to at least half agree with Rusty. Davidson (or otherwise Zullo) should've been in the squad. Probably not starting, but getting some game time. The clock is ticking on solving our leftback issue. The more time they have to adjust to international football and gel with the team the better. Burns_22 wrote:Eastern Glory wrote:Awesome update! Last I heard they where trying to offload him to Yeovil who are now in the championship. What on earth is their system? Kilkenny has immense technique. I can't see that being his biggest limitation in a League 1 side  He should never have stayed in England after leaving Arsenal's academy. Could've been a great player IMO. From the stories that have come out, it seems like all of his career decisions have been made based on wages instead of what was best for his football and career in the long run.

I have seen Kilkenny play multiple times and he is a very average player. Having good technique doesn't make you a good footballer, you need more than just technique to be successful. He is better than McKay though.

So because he doesn't get it right some of the time he should choose to get it all wrong? I agree hat he should test more players, but this is not the time.

Wouldn't have hurt to have a LB in the squad though, even if they didn't play. Alternatively, Holgers logic may have been that he didn't want to interrupt Davidsons chance to keep his starting spot with Heracles. If this was his reasoning then fair enough. But no reason not to call up Zullo.

Certainly, but Holger isn't doing that either. The Scotland game last year is a perfect example, What example are you giving and how is it perfect? Against Scotland he used Williams, Mcgowan and Davidson. Kilkenny was there too. Did you mean he didn't use the best squad that was available to him? The game against Romania where he kept Neill on the field whilst knowing he had to replace him for the next match needs explanation. Will always baffle me. Perhaps he had some masterful plan for using Cornthwaite in mind, or somesuch, but the decision and the aftermath stripped away much of his credibility with supporters. He never attempted to explain it that I saw. Still seems ridiculous. Everybody seems to have become more critical after that. Me too! [-( The funny thing is that since I have started looking for things to beat up on him with I keep running across positive things that he's done like helping the youngsters up in Europe. He's probably done more for generation change than we credit him for. It would be interesting to compare the last team Pim put on the field with the one that fronts Brasil. With Cup qualification he's earned the right to manage his best squad against Brasil next week. The performance of the team (not the result) should/will dictate whether or not he gains momentum or support going forward. Edited by SWandP: 1/9/2013 03:10:46 PM

Speaking of the Eredivisie, I was just looking up its player stats on WhoScored.com
Using their algoriths to determine the most effective players in the league based on stats, Tommy Oar is rated the 16th best player in the Eredisivie so far this season while Davidson is rated the 29ths best.
Tommy Oar is rated as Utrechts #1 player and Davidson is rated Herecles #1 player! Also, Oar has picked up 2 Man of match awards out of 4 games while Davidson has picked up 1/3. Excellent stuff.

I was hoping Davidson would get a call up for the Brazil game as he probably plays against a similar formation at left back more than anyone else in our team. I think he it is incredibly unfortunate he was banned for the first game this season so only came in for round 3 only getting two teams before the squad selection and it also made him look more on the out of Heracles squad than he actually was.
Back to my point on he is suited to a team like Brazil. He had went on the Four Diego's* radio show and what I think is important is the opposition he plays against in Holland. He said that with most teams playing 433 with quick, tricky wingers. This makes it a real 1v1 battle with the winger each week. Brazil plays 433 or 4231 but either way like traditional Brazil teams the wide players try to isolate the fullback and take them on. So the 1v1 battle Davisdon faces each week is likely similar to what our fullback will get in Brazil and even with this one being harder than normal I think he is probably better equipped than McKay who looked pretty low on confidence in the last few games at LB and when wingers went at him I expected him to lose every time.
*I don't know too much about the show I just saw he tweeted it but you can get it on itunes, the episode he is on is from the 28th

Wouldn't put it past Holger to completely shun him after that OG against Scotland. :-"
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

thupercoach wrote:johnszasz wrote:Watched the Leverkusen game. Kruse came on with 20min left. He did some good things. One moment was typical Robbie where he turned his marker and ran a good 20m with the ball in total free space, was a great move and got applause at the pub. He was constantly moving and making himself available. He lost the ball a few times and his crosses were generally blocked. Generally he showed that he likes to move into spaces and weave with the ball out wide which he did well. Sam is still ahead but Hyppia has to know that he has a very good replacement option.
The problem was that his teammates barely seem to want to include him in the game. The fittest player on the pitch and they kept the ball away from him, preferring to go to the left wing where the tired Son was. Son is a little selfish bastard and Kiessling only worries about himself. Kruse seems like a total outsider that isn't wanted by his manager or teammates. Leverkusen basically ruins a person each season and Kruse is the victim this time round.
Let's give Hyypia the benefit of the doubt at this stage. Kruse is still new to the team. The next few weeks will tell. Agree, especially with their Champions League campaign I'm sure there'll be opportunities for him. Maybe he'll push out Son.

MLS action: Timmy scored for New York against DC United, but more significantly a certain D Carney started and finished the game. HE'S BACK?

If David Carney is playing regular football and is playing well, then, while I would not agree with it, he might not be the worst selection. However if he plays a couple of games without doing anything much and gets selected it would be a total joke and disgrace.
