Brugge leading 2-0. Ryan's having a good game apart from one appalling bit of distribution straight to opposition.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

I only watched the first half of Feyenoord v Utrecht, Oar was decent without being a standout. Tough stadium to play away in. One thing I keep noticing is Stef Nijland keeps starting for his club... makes me wonder what Mulvey was doing with him.

Ryan was good for Brugge. Dealt with every high ball well.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Not a bad weekend for the Aussies... apart from about 87 goalkeepers sitting on the bench.

Good to see Macca get on the scoresheet, Leckie's doing well, Ruka's hopefully back in some form and obviously Robbie Kruse is the pick of the bunch.

Just checked out Shane Lowry's stats for the season so far.

- 61% pass success rate. Absolutely abhorrent for a defender.

- Average of 1 tackle and 0.3 intercepts per game. Not good ball winning stats at all for a fullback. I thought this was supposed to be his strength according to some on this site?

- Also one red card and one own goal.

I get it that he's in an under-performing team... but even then whoscored's statistical algorithms rate him as Millwalls 22nd best player! (That's their 2nd worst player to have played more than one game).
The next time someone suggests putting him in the NT ahead of Davidson or Zullo they get a hard slap in the face.

I've only seen Lowry play a couple of times but I wouldn't even go that far.
Neither of them belong at leftback. Lowry seems much more suited to centerback while McKay, a good midfielder is completely ill suited to leftback.

Completely agree. But to play as a centerback for the national team he would have to majorly improve those passing stats.

This might seem a bit unorthodox but how about judging a player based on how they play for their country rather than on some trifling statistics. The game is greater than 'pass completion', 'blocked shots' etc, just seems a bit dimwitted to summarise a players ability based on some vague percentages.

In your view if a player plays in Europe then they had a good game. Your mind is already made up before a game begins.
I'd rather base my opinion on statistics which depict a players abilities rather than on your deluded nonsense rusty.

You praise European football but you reject their method of player evaluation. All of the best European managers like Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson put huge emphasis on statistics when evaluating their players or choosing players to bring in to the club. No top managers rely's on their gut instinct of a players performance after a superficial viewing.
There have been instances of top European managers bringing in a player into clubs because of a statistical error showing the player to be better than they are!

If you're interested in expanding your football knowledge and understanding the importance of stats, read Soccernomics. Lots of great stuff including input from Arsene Wenger.

Since players need to be selected and neither have really played for the country it is a bit hard to judge them on that. So if we can't judge them on their national team appearances then we must use their club ones.

They are both playing for clubs doing pretty poorly this season, one in the Eredivise and the other in the Championship. Now Millwall has picked up 2 wins this season in the two games Lowry has been suspended for including a win against the then table topping Blackpool. On the other hand Davidson has been one of his teams best players. They have been just as poor as Millwall if not worse but they are also playing in a better league.

Some other things I noticed from the weekend.
Leckie's brace has brought him equal to his goal tally I the league last year (someone find highlights please) with 3 more assists needed to equal last season also.

While Amini came in because of injuries (players injured are still out) Dortmund II's results have improved since he came in. They are undefeated in the three games he has started picking up two wins away and a draw at home. Before that they had 2 wins and 4 losses. Also last night he was again subbed off but this time it was in the 90th minute means it the most time he has gotten in a single game this season so far.

Depends if he has a good bp cb next to him, as long as he kept it simple he would be alright. His positioning seems ok and tackling for cb is worth less than positioning, where the opposite is true for DM or FB, in my opinion. But his passing is pretty bad, but as I said, if he keeps it simple and is partnered with someone who can, he would do alright, though not outstanding.
