Yes!!! Leckie scores again! Don't have sky on right now but the ticker says after 22mins 1-0 vs Paderborn. Ruka on bench.

The World Cup being in June 2014, he's building up nice momentum now. I'm all for having him as our main striker. Kennedy is good but as an auxiliary striker, imo. We need to be able to score with feet and Matt bring that option to the table.

Hopefull he will break into his sides first team but I really doubt so as he was not playing regularly in the second tier when he got injured. If he is not offered a new contract he could be a good pick up for an A-league team. Good chance he will stay in Italy and as I think he has a family there but it would be nice to see. After writing this I remembered I have not looked him up in a while and he returned to the pitch last Thursday in a friendly. http://gazzettadimodena.gelocal.it/sport/2013/10/11/news/sassuolo-10-gol-e-un-pieno-d-entusiasmo-1.7907203Quote:In the second half began turning of replacements, and he sees himself in the field Carl Valeri absent for eight months due to injury. I don't think he will play this week, well at least sights suggesting squads for this week are not including him but it is still great to see him back. They won 11-1 by the way, terrible opposition I am guessing. Sarota and Valeri on the way back is good news. Whether Valeri will get any game time is questionable as you say but it would be a bonus if he does and could be considered as an option for the WC squad. However we would then have Jedinak, Milligan, Holland, Sarota and Valeri fighting for two or perhaps 3 spots in the WC squad depending on what the new coach does tactically. Sarota only had one game at DM last year before he was injured the rest he played at RM or LM when Oar was out. If we can go back to 4-4-2 or anything other than 4-2-3-1 really we could move Kruse to Striker or SS and play him as a RM. I know he plays the exact same position as Oar on the right hand side but I think he is a bit different player to Oar. Also in a 4-2-3-1 I would rather, perhaps wrongly play Kruse, Leckie and perhaps Vidosic out wide. Perhaps we should be looking at playing a 4-4-2 diamond like they do at Utrecht. Jedinak/Milligan/Holland at DM, Sarota on the right, Oar on the left and Bresciano/Rogic as the AM. Kruse could play as a second striker along side Kennedy. It would require the fullbacks to get forward a lot to provide the width in attack. The problem with that formation is that Jedinak and Holland are nowhere near good enough to play at CDM. And even Milligan is not good enough, if he's on his own (different story if he's alongside Sarota). It has to be Sarota. He's our only current player similar-ish to Jason Culina. The CDM are the nucleus of the team. The whole health of the team depends on their ability and effectiveness. Sarota is very quick, knows where to position himself, he has great vision and is a highly accurate passer. Jedinak and Holland, on the other hand, are much slower, they don't manage to link defence and attack at all, they don't drift between lines and they give the ball away when they try to pass it. It's a recipe for disaster playing either of them as CDM. If we play 4-2-3-1, then we gotta play Sarota and Milligan in the middle of the park. I hope Ange or whoever goes with that idea and puts Leckie as sole striker, in the friendlies. Rogic, at CAM. If Leckie scores goals with Rogic behind him and Oar and Kruse on his wings, then that's excellent. If Leckie can't score too many goals on his own. Then we change to 4-4-2 (diamond midfield). Kennedy comes in alongside Leckie up front. Sarota stays, but Milligan goes (he's not up to the task of being CDM on his own). So basically it should be a question of who will do better on their own: Matt Leckie at striker or Adam Sarota at CDM? Edited by quickflick: 19/10/2013 04:48:05 AM

It will take a brave, yet just a manager with vision to play our boys who have an attacking mindset. I can think of a side full of quality players who have major roles at all their clubs, representing us at the World Cup on a very nice level. Think something like: RB: Williams RCB: Jedinak LCB: Sainsbury LB: Davidson CM: Milligan CM: Bresciano RM: Vidosic LM: Oar CF: Kruse ST: Leckie How can/will people criticise, win or lose, the credibility of such a side, or manager who picks this side. This would be arguably our best current crop all representing their respectives clubs as vital players and most are leaders. Then again, we are all dreamers!

Jedinak is an absolute beast at breaking up play, but he just can't pass for shit. So many loose balls for Crystal Palace and for the socceroos. Putting him at CB though, well, I wouldn't be completely opposed to it but he has already been tried there at CP i think and by all reports he was woeful

Kruse gets about 15mins including 4min stoppage time in a crazy game of referee decisions including a header which went through a hole in the side netting to land in the goal. Goal was given although many players got into position for a goal kick.

I like this team, full of potential, however Wilkinson maybe a good inclusion. Interesting to see who becomes the next coach. You can be sure if it is Ange, we will definitely see Milligan in there, possibly Troisi. Arnie may bring in Sainsbury, Wilkinson, Rogic etc. Popavic may look at Topor Stanley or Beach.

Then again, we are all dreamers! I would like to see that. But, the main concern I have with it is Bresc. Quality on the ball, I think he is still the best passer of the ball we have. His defending is more then questionable, along with his speed. I'd prefer him higher up the park, where the defensive burden is lighter for him. Added to that, Jedi at CB for the NT is an unknown. I don't think we can carry him in midfield due to his poor passing. Genuine question, but have Jedi and Milligan played as a midfield duo before?

In full strength squads we have seen starting combinations Valeri + Milligan and Bresciano + Milligan. Also Jedinak + Valeri, Jedinak + Bresciano, Jedinak + Holland, Mckay + Jedinak and Valeri + Kilkenny under Holger that I could find.

Leckie's goal was excellent. Brought down a high ball nicely, dummied a defender and slotted home. Didn't manage to see how Ruka played.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Wilkinson just got an assist. Currently 1-1 on 38', Korean FA Cup final, Joenbuk v Pohang. Pohang win on penalties. Unfortunate for Wilko. Edited by playmaker11: 19/10/2013 06:44:12 PM

Silly yellow. Showing a bit of attitude... Dortmund went down to 10 men early in the game though, that'd ruin my day too.

reckless challenge from amini again
i thought he was at fault for nearly every goal for the u20s v netherlands and he needs to improve. I think with the ball though he is definitely a class above but he needs to sort out his defensive issues
